DESCRIPTION

Search for alternatives in agriculture in the present scenario of globalisation and changing climatic conditions.working for urban roof top agriculture will also help in reducing load on land. this will help farmers to grow crops needed for staple food production and production of oil crops

The present problems of Indian agriculture are :-

Scarcity of input water.

Shortage of agricultural labour because of NREGS.

Shortage of organic manures in spite of rising demand. Feed problems of diary and farm animals and poultry birds.

Mounting overdue of farm loans and failure of cooperatives.

Climate related crop failures and outbreak of diseases.

Page 8: 12th plan hackathon in agriculture and rural development

continuedMental trauma of the farm families in combating economic reform.

Rising cost of living and deficit family budget.

Uncertainly of the cropping system and changing package of practices.

Confuse in the channel of marketing aid loss of market during harvesting.

Widening gap of income between farmers and non-farmers.

Change of planning methodologies

• 1 Use traditional knowledge.• 2 Market linked agriculture.• 3 More storage facilities to save during glut.• 4 Crowd sourcing to increase interaction at

ground level.• 5 Bring young people to farming by making it a

profitable venture.• 6 Efforts to plan for a cash crops like potato etc.

in routine crop cycle.

Potato a Potential Food to Ensure Food and Nutritional Security

• With increasing population, limiting land resources and scarce inputs • ( land, water, fertilizers etc.), there is a need to incorporate a concept of

nutrient production per unit area and time. • Potato is one of the ideal crops which produces more food and nutrients

per unit area and time .

Summary

1.Concentrate on Market linked, technology based agriculture.2.Increase in the participation of private sector in agriculture production.3.Expansion of storage facilities and setting up of food processing industry.4.Mechanisation of agriculture operations to counter labour shortage.5.Bringing younger farmers to agriculture by making it diversified and profitable bussiness.
