A Message from the Principal

13 May 2020

Week 4, Term 2

Dear Families,

A Nurse’s Prayer

Dear Lord,

Help me to be the best nurse that I can be. Bless me with the words to impart knowledge with gentility, patience, and a kind

bedside manner.

Give me the vision to see those who are struggling with their illness and the ability to help them understand it.

Show me how to provide expert care while making my patient comfortable.

Let me be a source of strength for my patients and their families. Let me be a constant help to the providers and the other nurses

with whom I work.

Lord, fill me with the energy to open each day with a smile regardless of how tired I am.

May I be a true sign of Your love to every person under my care.

This week we acknowledge our dedicated nurses who care and save the lives of so many. The World Health Organisation (WHO) this year designated 2020 as the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife. The theme for this year is, ‘Nursing the World to Health’. Our nurses are at the forefront, providing high quality care and treatment every day. The Covid-19 pandemic is a stark reminder of the vital role nurses play. Special thanks to many of our families who I know work in our hospitals and the health profession; we appreciate your care and commitment. Weekend mass was again celebrated in our assembly area both Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Special thanks to Father Dave, Father Anthony and Deacon Tony for making this possible. This weekend we will be celebrating mass in our church. Regular mass times resume this weekend being Saturday at 6:00pm and Sunday at 8:00am, 9:30am and 5:00pm. The church is to abide by the government Covid plan, which means we follow the regulations of social distancing. Our church pews will be a bit more spread out and communion and collections will look a little different. We thank you for your support around this. I wish to thank all those involved with Mother’s Day. A beautiful liturgy last week from Mrs. Mimi Woolley and her class to members of our school community. Thanks to Mrs. Emma McDonald who ensured our families were able to watch via

Zoom. Special thanks also to our Parents and Friends Committee for the amazing gift stall made available to our children. I hope that you all enjoyed the gifts brought home. In addition, to our staff, thanks for your work in ensuring this important day was celebrated and acknowledged. To celebrate and acknowledge students achievements both in the classroom and playground we have Reward Afternoon in place this Friday. Reward Afternoon supports Holy Spirit Positive School Support Policy and Agreed Practices. Please take the time to check in with your child’s classroom teacher to see how this will look. For this event, social distancing and activities offered have been considered. As a reminder, we are still required to cap our numbers for After School Care (ASC) to 65 students per day. Many of our parents/carers at Holy Spirit are essential workers. For these families, priority is given for bookings. Each day we have children on our waiting list to use this service. Where you do not require ASC, please notify our front office so that we can provide a spot to a child on the waiting list. Your support in this appreciated. Wishing you all a wonderful remainder to the week. Blessings, Mrs. Paula Sellars Principal

SPARE UNIFORM The front office has a shortage of spare clothes. If you have a child in

Transition - Year 2, we ask that you send them to school with a change of uniform (including underwear) in their school bag in case of

accidents that may occur from time to time.

UNIFORM REMINDER Students are expected to wear full school uniform each day. A signed

note from parents must be sent to school if a student is out of uniform. Students out of uniform will be issued with a note to parents

advising breach of uniform - the note is requested to be signed and then returned.

Purple polo shirt $35

Black Shorts or Skorts - plain black $30

Dress $45

Hats - Black school hat $15

Black shoes or sandshoes - must be plain black with black laces

Socks - white or black

Sandals - black or brown

Jewellery A wrist watch (smart watches not permitted) may be worn and a thin gold or silver chain with a cross but no other form of jewellery is acceptable. Students who have pierced ears may wear one pair of ‘sleepers’ or ‘studs’ only.

Hair Needs to be neat and tidy at all times. Hair is not to be hanging in the face of students, if longer than the students shoulders it needs to be tied back. Purple or black ribbons are acceptable.

Nail Polish is not to be worn at school. Hats are a compulsory uniform item.

PARENT PICK UP & DROP OFF AREA We have been experiencing a number of traffic flow issues with our Parent Pick Up and Drop off area at afternoon dismissal. These issues are currently leading to traffic congestion on Gsell street, traffic jams in the Parent Pick Up area and dangerous collection of students.

In order to assist with overcoming these issues you can help in the following ways:

Do not park in front of the school automatic gate prior to the opening of the gates of an afternoon.

Do not park your car in the parent pick up area and leave your vehicle there.

Do not park or sit idle on the road that runs through our parent pick up area

If all the waiting bays are full please drive through and park in the visitor car park or drive around again.

Thank you for your cooperation with this important issue that relates to the work health and safety of

the children and staff here at Holy Spirit.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS Has your family recently changed your place of residence?

Have you changed your phone number, place of work or postal address?

Please contact the front office with your updated contact details.

PERFORMING ARTS REQUEST Mrs. Emma is seeking costumes/dress-ups/props for Drama this term. If you have any at home that you are willing to donate to the school it

would be greatly appreciated. Please leave them at the front office.

INTRODUCING… YEAR 4, 5 & 6 TEACHING TEAM

Sinéad Walsh - Rm.10 This is my fourth year teaching year 5/6 at Holy Spirit and being a part of our fantastic school community. I enjoy teaching in upper primary and working with our Year 6 leadership group. This year, I have additional roles as Wellbeing Officer and Child Safeguarding Officer. My favourite part of teaching is witnessing the students achieve their goals and enjoy their learning journey. I am especially lucky to work with such a supportive and talented teaching team. [email protected]

Caoimhe Kalinowsky - Rm.13 I have been working at Holy Spirit for 20 years and have enjoyed teaching across different year levels and learning areas throughout this time. I am currently teaching in Yr. 5/6 two days a week. I am also the Acting Deputy Principal and Curriculum Coordinator. My favourite part of teaching is getting to know our students, seeing their talents and watching them succeed. [email protected]

Matthew Kleidon - Rm.13 I teach Year 5/6 in Room 13 with Mrs. Caoimhe. I began teaching in 2001 and moved to the Northern Territory in 2005, drawn by the amazing weather and the relaxed lifestyle that is so apparent here. My first seven years as a teacher were in upper primary, after which I taught in secondary school. This year I have come full circle, returning to upper primary with the specific goal of helping the students to make a successful transition into their secondary schooling. [email protected]

Stephen O’Shannessy - Rm.12 Born and raised in rural Victoria, I am one of six siblings. In education, I have taught years 3-6 over the past 13 years. I have also been fortunate enough to teach Pre-School and junior levels in England. My previous leadership roles consisted of P.E. Coordinator, Digital Technologies Coordinator, Religious Education Coordinator and my current role as Instructional Coaching Mentor. I am currently enrolled in the Masters of Educational Leadership course from ACU which keeps me busy along with social sporting groups. My favourite part of teaching at Holy Spirit is guiding the students to develop their self-confidence. Oral presentations are a pleasure to witness, as the children develop strategies to manage their fears to deliver a persuasive and comprehensive speech. stephen.o’[email protected]

OSHC NEWS... As you are aware, we have been required to cap our numbers to 65

children per day.

It is important that our families who work in essential services are able to access ASC and go to work each day. We have many children

on a waiting list at present and it is important that we provide them a spot when available. We ask please that where you have made a

booking and it is no longer required please contact our front office through the normal channels of email or the app to cancel. This then opens a space to a family who requires this service and assists us with

staffing.

If we are at capacity and your child turns up to ASC without a booking they will be taken to the front office for a family member to collect

immediately.

Additional bookings will not be accepted where families have overdue fees. If assistance is required, please speak with our staff in finance so

that a payment plan can be put into place.

While we have capped numbers at OSHC, bookings made through the app and email from Friday 2:30pm to Monday 7:30am requesting Before School Care or After School care for a Monday (or Tuesday

after a Monday public holiday) will not be honoured as availability for places cannot be confirmed.
