Measuring for Shutters
1300 918 390
Shutters are the most on trend window furnishing of the 21st century. Popular with professional and amateur interior designers alike, they have the ability to compliment and enhance both traditional and modern interiors.
Before you start!
To ensure the perfect t, the rst thing you’ll need to do is decide wheth-er you will be face tting or recess tting your new shutters.
A face t shutter will project into your room by about 65mm. For this reason we believe the aesthetic of a recess t are a better option where your window frame has the space to allow for it.

RECESS FIT is where the shutters will sit inside of the window frame.
We recommend a recess t where possible, so you’ll need to make sure you have full window depth clearance of 60mm across the window. Look out for any obstructions like window winders or hndles that might pose a problem.
1. Width – take the exact measurement of the inside of your window frame from left to right in 3 places; once at the top of the window, once across the middle and once at the bottom. You will then need to record the smallest measurement.2. Drop – once again we need your exact measurement of the inside of your window frame from top to bottom. You will need to take 3 measurements; one on the left, one in the centre and one on the right hand side. You will then need to record the smallest measurement.

If your shutter has a drop of 1500mm or more it will be made with a midrail. We recommend positioning the midrail at the height of any horizontal mullions in the window. If your window doesn’t have a mullion you may either choose to have your midrail in the centre of the panel or at any other specic point you choose (it’s always best to keep them below eye level).
To measure the height of your midrail, measure from the bottom of your shutter (inside the frame for recess t or the bottom of the architrave for face t) to the mid point of where you’d like the midrail to sit.
We will assume your midrail will be located in the middle of your panels. If this is not the case please let us know via email ([email protected]) or make a note in the order instructions when you check out and we’ll be in touch.

Uneven panels – when you place your order we’ll assume that all your panels are the same width.
If your panels are uneven, please let us know via email ([email protected]) or make a note in the order instruc-tions at checkout and we’ll be in touch.
We’ll help ensure your panels align to the window frame for the best t, while maintaining window functionality. Please see images below which illustrate both the aesthetic and functional importance of aligning your panels with your window frames.
Like always if you have any questions or run into any problems the friendly team at DIY Online Blinds are only a phone call away.

Note in this imageyou can see the window frame and the handle because the panels don’t alignthe window frame.
Note in this imagethe panels and windowframe line up, making for a much nicer nish that isboth aestheticly andfunctionaly better.
