Dear Parents

We continue to be reminded of the many wonderful talents of our students and what a great school community we are so fortunate to be a part of. Last week was an example of this. From our inaugural participation in the West Australian Government Schools Music Society festival at Burswood, where the performing arts talents of our choir and drama students were on display, to the Winter Carnival and State Cross Country event, where the fitness endurance and perseverance of our competitors was well tested.

Congratulations to all children who took part in these events. Thank you to our staff for their coordination and preparation of the students. A very big thank you also to our parents, your support is always greatly appreciated. Feedback from Principals and bus drivers was very complimentary, both about the behaviour of our students, and the coordination of the evening at Burswood – a great endorsement for our school. Thank you to all involved.

As part of Science Week this week, all classes will be involved in our Whole School Science Day, with many interesting scientific learning occurring. A great deal of time and planning has occurred to iron out any experiment “flaws”! Thank you to all staff for their coordination of events planned.

Next week is Children Book Week. We will see our library taken over by the Book Fair. We are very grateful for your support of this this annual fundraiser for our library. I’m sure the children will be thinking about their wish lists.

We also look forward to seeing many literary characters paraded at our Annual Book Week Assembly on Friday 23rd August. If last year is anything to go by, I am sure this year will be another fantastic success. If students feel their costume may inhibit their movement or restrict their capacity to undertake normal school day activities, please provide backup clothing (school uniform) to change into.

Students are also preparing for our upcoming faction carnival with our jumps and throws, scheduled for Thursday 29th August and our track and team games on Friday 30th August. We look forward to seeing lots of great sportsmanship and personal best efforts.

The P & C will be holding a sausage sizzle for lunch on the day of the Faction Sports Carnival - Friday 30th August. Order forms have been sent home with your child. Spares are available in the front office.

Where will you be in 2020?

Thank you to those families who have already responded. Having this information will allow us to commence our planning on class structures and staff placements. Spare forms are available in the front office. We understand circumstances may change and should this be the case, please contact the office or let your child’s teacher know.

During Week 2, all Year 6 classes ran Junior Masterchef competitions. The students have been developing their procedural writing skills and investigating a variety of different styles, including recipes. Each group had to provide a two course meal for the judges and only had 80 minutes to do so. To add an element of challenge, the meals also had to align themselves to healthy nutritional values for their salt, sugar and saturated fat contents. The temperatures were hot, the pressure tense and the smell of delicious delicacies filled the air. Judges were treated to an amazingly high standard of plating and enjoyed the bold, fresh, bacteria-free flavours of each dish.

Friday 9th August, Carramar Primary School entered their largest team into the State School Cross Country Championships. The students have committed and trained well for many weeks and it paid

off with great results. With 70 primary schools from around the state represented, Carramar Primary finished in overall 6th place ( our best result). Our year 5 girls ran extremely well and placed 3rd overall for the category. The future looks bright for Carramar with James from year 2 running in the year 4 and under category placing 92nd with a time of 7 minutes 54 seconds for the 2km course.

Well done to all the students who participated!

'Around the World' Disco

Students from Year 2-6 enjoyed dancing to multi-cultural songs from around the world such as 'Zorba dance', 'Macarena', 'Ballo del Qua' (Chicken Dance) and 'Asejere'.

Languages In Our World Activity

This week students discussed different world languages that themselves, parents and grandparents and other family members speak. Some Yr 4, 5, 6 classes tallied up the information and discussed the results. It was interesting to share stories and reasons why some of us including our family members know a language other than English e.g. born or lived in another country, learnt at school, taught by family or neighbours.

Class Snapshot- Yr 4 T14 with Mrs Andrew

Year 4 T14 enjoyed Welsh Cakes (Picau ar y maen) brought in by Evan to celebrate Languages Week. Thank you very much Mrs McLoughlin for this treat! They are traditional in Wales U.K. and are cooked on a flat griddle pan.

The Yr 4 class also learned how to say 'hello' in different languages from around the world each morning (Kaya, Guten Tag, Salut, Ciao, Konichiwa, Kia Ora, Aloha). Students received complimentary Noongar stickers from Sunday Times Media Education and learnt Noongar phrases such as: 'Ngany Dwonginy' (I hear) and 'Ngany Kanan Waangkiny' (I speak truthfully).

Hello to All the Children of the World Song

Students learnt the song 'Hello to all the Children of the World' and sang it as the community song at the recent faction assembly. It involved actions with a partner and multi-lingual greetings in languages such as French, Japanese, Hebrew, Russian, Italian and Spanish.
