Welcome Father Antonio Bobis.

Please join us in welcoming Fr. Antonio

Bobis who recently arrived from

Maryland to be our Parochial Vicar.

Father Tony is originally from the

Southern tip of Luzon in the province of

Sorsogon City, Philippines. He was

assigned first as Parochial Vicar then as

seminary formator in the Diocesan Semi-

nary. In 1999, he was loaned to the

Archdiocese of Agana in Guam where he

served as a Hospital Chaplain for over

seven years. He came to Hawaii in

2006—2008 to attend the yearlong

Clinical Pastoral Education at Pacific

Health Ministry and became a

professional chaplain. While in training,

he resided at Star of the Sea Parish, and helped in the celebration of masses there. He

took his CPE residency at Queen’s Medical Center where he served as chaplain for a

few months after his CPE. He was moved to Kapiolani Medical Center later to cover

for the ailing chaplain. Fr. Tony also served as Catholic Chaplain of Tripler Medical

Center. He is a Board Certified Chaplain under the Association of Professional

Chaplains. As a priest in resident at St. Philomena, he helped in the celebration of

masses there and in Holy Family Church. In 2010 he went to California where he

served as a priest in residence for a year at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in

Santa Maria City.

”Lord I am Not Worthy…” As we prepare to receive Jesus in the

Eucharist, we recall the words spoken

to Jesus by the Roman centurion, when

with strong faith he begged our Lord to

heal his sick servant (Matthew 8:5-13).

With anticipation, awe, and loving de-

sire, and perhaps recognizing that we

are really not worthy of His abiding

within us, we ask Jesus to heal us of our

unworthiness before we receive Him in

holy Communion. We humbly ac-

knowledge that He is the Word made

flesh, that we will be receiving Him,

truly present in body, blood, soul and

divinity, into our bodies, the abode of

the soul.

SCRIPTURE READINGS

This Weekend’s Gospel Reflections: Mark 5:21-24,35b-43

Life has gone out of the body of Jairus’s daughter. In reponse to his faith in him, power goes out fo the body of Jesus, restoring the little girl’s life. Jesus’ power is passed through physical contact: Jesus takes the hand of the little girl. Jairus demonstrates his faith and has his wish for healing granted. Death has encroached, yet death is turned back. This gospel’s healing story reveals Jesus to be the Lord of life. Death, debilitating illness, and chronic medical conditions shatter any illusion of our control over life. The tenuousness of life turns us to the Lord of life armed with nothing but utter faith. To encounter Jesus’ power over life, we have only to acknowledge, as did Jairus, this tenuous hold we have on life. Such acknowledgement is an act of faith. When we surrender in humility to Jesus’ goodness and power, he offers us life and in this we encounter the Lord of life. Our very surrender to his mercy and power over life is our reaching out in faith to touch Jesus. ~Living Liturgy 2012

Needed: RCIA catechists and leaders of Sunday morning “Breaking Open the Word”. Help to familiarize unbaptized adults with the Gospel message. Help prepare adults for the sacraments of initia-tion and for a sacramental lifestyle. Love of Christ and the faith are the most important requirements for this ministry; some teaching or group facilitating experience would be helpful. Resources will be provided. God our Father, Giver of life, we entrust the United

States of America to Your loving care. You are the

rock on which this nation was founded. You alone are

the true source of our cherished rights to life, liberty

Reclaim this land for Your glory and dwell among

Your people. Send Your Spirit to touch the hearts of

our nation´s leaders. Open their minds to the great

worth of human life and the responsibilities that ac-

company human freedom. Remind Your people that

true happiness is rooted in seeking and doing Your

will.

Through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, Pa-

troness of our land, grant us the courage to reject the
