THE PACESETTER: The largest hospital in Los Angeles County ranked by net patient revenue is Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Net patient revenue at the Beverly Grove hospital increased to $3.04 billion last year from $2.75 billion in 2015. It reported pre-tax income of $432 million last year, an increase from $337 million in 2015. Its operating margin was 10.9 percent last year. Net patient revenue is defined as total revenue less deductions for Medicare, Medi-Cal, other third-party insurance payments, and provisions for bad debt.

HOLLYWOOD: Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center announced plans to invest $200 million in a hospital expansion. The first phase of the plan will be a new emergency department that will increase the size of the department from 11,000 square feet to 26,000 square feet and increase beds from 20 to 26. The first phase will also add a 650-spot parking structure. The hospital expects to begin construction later this year and complete the project by 2019.
