Principal’s Reflection

14 November, 2018

Week 5, Term 4

Reflection Dear Families,

We congratulate Chelsea Biddlecombe, who made the Sacrament of Confirmation over the weekend at

St. Martin De Porres. We pray the Holy Spirit continues guides her on her faith journey.

Last Friday we celebrated Remembrance Day with a special service that was led by our Room 14 stu-

dents. During the moving service we all observed one-minute silence at 11 am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and

armed conflicts. We were fortunate to have Squadron Leader Craig Sedgman speak to us about his involvement in the Air Force and

what Remembrance Day means to him. Lest we forget.

We congratulate our students who participated in the Australian Maths Competition. Distinctions were achieved by Joshua Altaras

and Amy Harris and a High Distinction was achieved by Tasha Ullas. Tasha will attend Charles Darwin University to receive a special

award later this term for achieving in the top 10% of students Australia wide. Well done Tasha and to all who participated, we are very

proud of you.

This week also marks the half way point of our final term for the year. With end of year business upon us, I would like to bring families

attention to a number of whole school community events that are upcoming in December so families can book them into their

calendars. We will be holding our school End of Year Mass, on Friday 7th, at 8:30am and our Family Christmas Gathering at Casuarina

Pool from 5 – 7pm later that evening. Our Year 6 Graduation mass and dinner is on the evening of Wednesday 12 th December. Parents

and friends are encouraged to come along to these celebrations.

Next Friday we welcome the newest members of our school community with our 2019 Transition students orientation morning. This

morning will provide a fantastic opportunity for the students to experience a little of what next year will be like for them. We are

currently still accepting enrolments for 2019 across all year levels, please enquire through the front office.

As part of our KidsMatter programme and encouraging positive behaviour at school we hold Reward Afternoons, every 5 weeks.

Students who have been displaying positive attributes over the last 5 weeks are rewarded with a special activity or event to

acknowledge this behaviour. You could ask your child what is their class doing on Friday.

God bless you all and keep you safe,

In Room 8, we have been participating in the swimming

program for the last 2 weeks at Casuarina pool. Students were

placed in groups and learnt how to stay safe in and around the

water. The lessons taught students vital skills and knowledge to

enable them to be more confident when swimming.

As part of our writing, students kept a daily swimming journal

to describe what they had been practising each day. Some

students wrote about learning the Aqua Code, how to safely

rescue people, as well as swimming techniques, such as

motorbikes to help with kicking and blowing bubbles.

The students thought the instructors were very friendly and did

lots of fun activities with them.

SCHOOL COUNSELLING PROGRAMME Hi, my name is Sarah and I am the School Counsellor from

CatholicCare NT. I am located Holy Spirit Catholic Primary

School one day a week on Thursdays and I'm here to provide

students with support and emotional well-being. Through the

School Counselling Program during a counselling session I con-

duct Child Centred Play Therapy modality which is a develop-

mentally appropriate, evidenced based, therapeutic intervention

for school aged children from 3-11 years old. This approach is

based on the belief that "play is therapy" for children, like when

adults talk through their problems to solve them, here children

play through their problems to solve them.

What is Play Therapy?

Play therapy builds on the child’s inner resources and strengths,

which are supported by the therapeutic relationship to bring

about growth, development and healing in the child. Play thera-

py helps children develop confidence and positive self esteem,

find healthier ways of communicating and can promote resili-

ence and coping, in ways that are appropriate to their develop-

mental stage.

Here are some of the following referral reasons that your child

may be struggling with and that Play Therapy can be an effec-

tive therapeutic approach by referring to the School Counselling

Program;

- Divorce & separation of parents

- Anxiety & depression

- Low self esteem & self confidence

- Social difficulties

- Angry & aggressive behaviour

- Trauma & abuse

- Grief & loss

- Autism spectrum disorder

- Attachment issues… and more…

Play therapy is a gentle intervention that provides a safe and

secure space for children to process their thoughts, feelings, and

experiences through their first and most natural language; play!

Referrals can be made through contacting the school’s front

office, principal, teachers, and or School Counsellor.

SCHOOL FEES - 2019 Families are advised the following school fees for 2019 apply.

These fees have been recommended by the CEC
