EXECUTIVE SUMMARYSUPER MANGO CLINIC

LOCATION

GOAL

HISTORY

April 14-17, 2014 in Oslob, Cebu, Philippines

Help grow a self-sustainable, organically growing community of ambassadors to allow ideas to spider network across Asia. Grow community leaders!

We aim to attract community leaders and active members of widespread communities who are interested in learning more about being involved than simply riding skill.

Achieve maximum participation and satisfaction with a low fi-nancial cost for entry and a high value of education in skills and theory. With their entry, the riders will be supplied with the expendable equipment required for the event.

A two day clinic was developed during the 2013 VLT race series to educate riders how to safely navigate the steep slope of Os-lob.

The impromptu successful collaboration of the geographically disconnected skate communities of the Philippines allowed for a chance to cooperativly learn riding safety and skills that are not easily taught in a competative environment.

Our vision is to develop leaders who can spread their knowledge and build local community.

To provide a cooperative learning environment where riders can de-velop well-rounded personal skills associated with longboarding, and encourage others with guidance from professionals in their field.

Riders will be instructed through three main categories:1, riding skills, 2, first aid and safety awareness, and 3, how to be an ambassador for your community.

The event will do this with professional ambassadors leading by ex-ample, empowering current ambassadors in the national community to act as instructors, and having skilled locals in first aid & yoga teach importance of these skills.

The existing participant base is ¾ Filipino riders and ¼ of riders from Malaysia, Indonesia, China, and Singapore. Our goal is to attract more riders from all over Asia to spread the knowledge widely and increase our focus group. Sponsors of the event will benefit from logo branding on the event poster and exclusive equipment representation on riders. Supporting shops will benefit by sales of event sponsors product during the event. The local community benefits from the event by providing jobs through moto-taxi shuttles, in sales of food and accommodation and increased tourism during, and in future. Also a donation of minimum $1 CAN per rider to the local mountain community.

With a large majority of riders not being supported by brands we are able provide a low cost event with a high return on value through spon-sors products given to the riders. Thus we’re able to provide the spon-sors with exclusive product branding on the riders during the event.

Promotion of the event will be online and through local community, sponsors contacts, Asian shops and distributors. Event information will be sourced from www.supermango.orgSignup will be done through Paypal to make it accessible for internati-onal riders.

The event will consist of four to five days, the first being signup and mandatory rider / staff meetings, three days for the clinic, and one day after for a backup and cleanup day.

The road will be separated in three sections of difficulty and offer shut-tles up the road at multiple points.

To work with the intensity of the sun, the morning skate clinic will start at 7am for three hours. Two instructors for each group will guide mul-tiple small groups slowly down sections of the road appropriate for the rider‘s skill level, teaching necessary basics to advanced abilities.

Lunch will be provided.

While hiding from the sun, a classroom style course will be taught for two to three hours.

Focus on first aid training led by Red Cross to know what to do in case of injury. Our professional ambassadors will discuss safety considera-tions while riding on an open road, and preventative measures to take while running their own event.

Focus on team building exercises, personality & communication games, and what it means to be a good ambassador.

Teach what is involved in creating your own event by going through examples of elements of bad and good events, things to consider and how to lead the group.

The duration of the lesson will depend on group discretion.

Riders will be allowed to free ride sections of the whole road being lead and followed by their instructors. Instructors can give on the fly tips to riders and encourage their improvements helping through their difficulties.

Games that are fun and skill based will be lead by the instructors to focus on random riding skills, and allow riders to cooperatively encou-rage and learn from each other.

The evening will be relaxed giving free time to everyone for dinner, swimming, fun group games, campfire, and music. At 9pm a mandatory riders meeting will be held to inform about the following days events. A yoga session will conclude the evening for a half hour session.

The closest large cities from Oslob with airports are Dumaguete and Cebu City at one & two hours respectively.

The town of Oslob is 800m from the base of the road for restaurants, stores and other facilities. A convenience store for drinks can be found 100m from the base. Three checkpoint rest areas will be established on the road roughly two kilometres apart for water and an outhouse. Accommodation will be provided at a resort one kilometre from the base of the road in a private cove by the ocean. Other hotels are availa-ble for those who would like. There is no power on the road, yet their is cell reception on the mountain and even Wifi!

There will be a paramedic on site, but not an ambulance. If riders are injured the district hospital is 700m from the base of the road and rider will be shuttled by an event vehicle if possible. Police will be stationed at the top and bottom of the road to provide security of local traffic.

With three checkpoints setup, traffic will be managed by section and uphill and downhill movement will be communicated through walkie-talkies with each group’s instructor.

Every rider & instructor will sign a waiver releasing liability to the event and it’s organizers. Insurance for the event has not been finalized.

With an expectation of one hundred riders, each signup includes a rider‘s package with:

This clinic can be reproduced in any country on any road. The key re-quirement is having a large number of riders willing to learn not just rider skills, but ambassador skills.

With the guidance of Joseph Falcone, the location is being built as a “Sport Sanctuary” with sustainable efforts in terms of food & bam-boo production, and accommodations for rent for mountain bikers and rock climbers who also use the area around Oslob.

Once the system is set in place as to how a clinic should run, the locals can downsize the event to hold multiple small events throughout the year. This will help the locals build their skills in a cooperative way, and also allows groups from other countries to come to practice on impec-cable terrain.
