PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Zaha Hadid Architects: August 2012-
This world renowned practice needs no introduction and are well known for their innovative and an boundary pushing work.
My engagement with ZHA has been focussed on the Changsha Meixihu International Cultural and Art Centre, (CMICAC) with a role leading the team responsible for the Art Museum element of the project from schematic design to construction stage. This has involved overseeing development of the facade design from schematic to preliminary stage, producing the full preliminary design drawing package in two stages and engaging closely with the local design institute in their production of later stage drawings as the project progresses. I have also overseen development of the interior package to a late concept design stage for handover, and have responsibility for product and material specification across the wider scheme.
Private Work: July 2010-
On a private basis I have designed and supervised construction of a small residential project in the North West of Ireland. The work comprised refurbishment of a derelict cottage and construction of a new extension to the rear. Other private projects I have recently worked on include development of bespoke metal cladding with a UK supplier, renovation of a loft warehouse space in Hong Kong as well as feasibility studies for art events in the city.
ACME, London: June 2010- February 2012
This ambitious young practice, winners of the RIBA Manser Medal in 2010, plays above its weight engaging in numerous prestigious projects both abroad and in the UK.
I was employed here leading various projects though concept, planning and detailed design stages, notably the Leeds Low Carbon Energy Centre, a ground-breaking building cutting edge both in its design and functionality , which has been published widely internationally. As well as playing a leading position in teams on various high profile competitions, I also took on roles managing recruitment and publishing within the practice.
Walters and Cohen, London: June 2009- December
2009
I was employed here working on a new secondary school in Bristol, England, and played a major role in developing detail design of outer envelope packages for tender and construction.
Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, London: September
2007- June 2009
This established and award-winning practice, winners of the Stirling Prize in 2008, have a well-earned reputation for considered and thoughtful, sustainable design.
I worked here mainly on the project team for Broadcasting Place, a £50 million mixed-use project which was awarded the 2010 prize for “Best Tall Building in the World” by the CTBUH (Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat) . On this project I was responsible for key parts of the building, such as the Church and the Tower housing student residential accommodation, through tender and construction stages.
Metropolitan Workshop, London: September 2006-
May 2007
I worked at this young design-led practice as a key member of the design team for a large residential/mixed-use scheme in the Republic of Ireland, gaining experience in developing a complex project to planning permission stage.
Studio Pei-Zhu, Beijing: September 2005- August
2006
I worked as a lead designer on varied projects, including major international competitions and work under construction. As well as playing a key role in design development, I gained good experience in managing, coordinating and delegating responsibilities within the office.

In collaboration with a UK manufacturer of bespoke installations using a technique of inflating stainless steel sheets using
high pressure air injection, this concept work looks at how such technology could be utilised to manufacture a three
dimensional metal cladding formed of 6 unit types to allow changes of geometry and scale across a facade.

PROJ \ 003 \ COTTAGE REFURB + EXTENSION \ PRIVATE WORK
In private work, a 150 year old traditional cottage on the West coast of Ireland which had been destroyed in a fire and fallen derelict, was fully
refurbished with thatch roof reinstated. A new extension constructed to the rear of the cottage seeks to integrate with the surrounding landscape
, utilising stone from the site and reflecting the materiality of local agricultural buildings. The extension is built into the slope of the surrounding
ground, and from the road approach and the front of the cottage appears as an innocuous shed. Windows and openings aim to bring as much of
the outside into the interior spaces, and the kitchen has light and views in three directions.

The Eastgate Quarters will form an important western extension to Leeds City Centre, redeveloping a site currently occupied by surface car
parking and derelict buildings to transform the area. New streets and connections are key in knitting this retail development to existing urban
fabric, historic and listed buildings are fully integrated, and a new public square is created as a focal point.

A prominent City Centre district energy plant to house combined high efficiency cooling, heat and power (CCHP) infrastructure and enable
the regeneration of the local area in Leeds whilst minimising carbon footprint. The scheme aims to be groundbreaking not only in terms of the
high technology it will house but also in terms of its design. The facade geometry conceals or exaggerates the buildings form whilst responding
to the different experiences of the building by motorists, pedestrians and surrounding residents.

This proposal saw the transformation of an existing former electric works into a regional shopping destination. The best features of the original
structure are preserved and enhanced, with shops and catering facilities arranged over two levels to take advantage of the industrial scale. Careful
consideration is given to servicing and shopfront design.

An extension to an existing school in Bristol composed of an external walkway, screened with timber providing access to new classrooms, and a
complex new glazed connection to existing Victorian buildings. Working within a limited budget whilst maintaining design quality was the main
challenge of the project- this necessitated close collaboration with consultants and sub-contractors.

Metropolitan University, as well as housing for 230 students and a Baptist Church. The entire complex, sited within a conservation area on the
site of a former BBC headquarters, is one of the largest projects in the UK to employ COR-TEN steel as a cladding material.

Situated in the context of Dakar, Senegal and related to the real-life endeavour of 325 members of the REFDAF women’s organisation to
construct their own community on the outskirts of the city, the Neenyo Net project imagines how existing means, skills and local resources can be
used to build in a developmental context. The end result is a flexible infrastructure constructed using fabric, bamboo and recycled car parts, which
seeks to accommodate the women’s activities as well as provide spaces for the wider community and a focal point for the organisation.
