_ LOS FELIZ COMMUNITY HUBACADEMIC

SERVING AS A SORT OF ‘CITY HALL’ AT THE MICRO-COMMUNITY SCALE, THIS HUB IS INTENDED TO HOUSE

BOTH CULTURAL AND CIVIC PROGRAMS FOR THE LOS ANGELES NEIGHBORHOOD OF LOS FELIZ. BOTH

SPATIALLY AND TECTONICALLY IT STROVE TO ACHIEVE AN OPENNESS AND UNIQUE CHARACTER INDICATIVE

OF THE COMMUNITY IT SERVED.

_ FURNITURE DESIGNACADEMIC

BOTH OF THESE FURNITURE OBJECTS WERE INTENDED TO EXPLORE THE

COMPLEX GEOMETRIC EFFECTS ONE COULD ACHIEVE THROUGH THE

SIMPLE OPERATION OF ‘TWISTING’.THE FIRST, A SIDE TABLE, CREATES

THE ILLUSION OF VARIED CUR-VATURES THROUGH THE USE OF

STRICTLY LINEAR ELEMENTS. GOING ONE STEP FURTHER, THE ADJACENT LAMP USES THIS PHENOMENON TO

DYNAMICALLY MITIGATE AND FILTER LIGHT. PARAMETRIC MODELING

WAS USED AS A CORE COMPONENT OF THE DESIGN AND FABRICATION

PROCESS IN BOTH CASES.

_ ENDOTERRA ACADEMIC

THIS PROJECTS PROGRAM PROPOSED THE PRIVATE EXPANSION OF A CONSERVATIVE AND HIGHLY INFLUENTIAL THINK TANK INTO

A PROMINENT PUBLIC PARK. THE CHALLENGE THEN BECAME SERVING A FUNDAMENTAL NEED FOR PRIVACY, WHILE ENABLING

THE OPPORTUNITY FOR INTELLECTUAL TRANSPARENCY TO DE-VELOP THROUGH ADJACENCY AND PUBLIC INTERACTION. THE PROJECT WAS CONCEIVED AS A SERIES OF SECTIONAL STUDIES

AND ARMATURES, WITH EACH SPACE IN THE PRIVATE INSTITUTION SERVING AS A MECHANISM FOR PUBLIC INSIGHT AND INPUT.

_ (RE)GENERATIVE URBANISMACADEMIC

THIS PROJECT REPRESENTS THE CULMINATION OF MY UNDERGRADUATE THESIS RESEARCH. IT PROPOSES TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES OF ABANDON-

MENT AND URBAN BLIGHT IN DETROIT, A ONCE CRITICAL MANUFAC-TURING CITY THAT HAS SEEN STEADY AND DRAMATIC POPULATION

DECLINE FOR OVER SIXTY YEARS. THE PROJECT BEGINS BY PROPOSING A DIGITALLY MANUFACTURED AND HYPER EFFICIENT SYSTEM OF AGRICUL-

TURE HOUSED WITHIN ARTICULATED MATS. THESE OBJECTS ADAPTIVELY OCCUPY ABANDONED SPACE AS IT EXPANDS WITHIN THE CITY; BOTH INCUBATING PLANT LIFE AND ACTIVATING THE LAND AROUND THEM.

SIMULTANEOUSLY, THEY ARE ABLE TO SERVE AS A FORM OF TRANSPORTA-TION INFRASTRUCTURE, ONE WHICH CAN DEVELOP ORGANICALLY AND

WITHOUT REGARD TO THE CARTESIAN URBAN GRID. SIMILARLY MODULAR MANUFACTURING TOWERS DEVELOP ALONGSIDE THIS AGRICULTURAL NETWORK, EACH GROWING TO SERVE THE INCREASINGLY AGRARIAN

LAND AROUND IT. THE FOOTPRINT OF THESE OBJECTS IS MINIMAL, AND THEY ARE ABLE TO SELF-PROPOGATE ALONG THE NEW NETWORK BY

REPRODUCING THEIR OWN MODULAR COMPONENTS.

_ NOON

MY FIRST EXCERSIZE IN SET DESIGN, THIS PROJECT INVOLVED THE CONCEPTION OF A FUTURISTIC IMMIGRATION CHECKPOINT. THE

STRUCTURE ITSELF WAS DESIGNED TO IMPRESS A SENSE OF STRUCTURAL SOPHISTICATION AND EVEN ELEGANCE, WHILE SIMULTANE-

OUSLY PRODUCING AN AUTHORITARIAN AND RELENTLESS BACKDROP FOR THE SCENE.

_ KHAWAJA RESIDENCE BELZBERG ARCHITECTS

RECENTLY COMPLETED, THIS PROJECT INVOLVED THE FULL RENOVATION AND EX-PANSION OF A 4000 SQUARE FOOT HOME

IN THE HOLLYWOOD HILLS. HOPING TO CAPITALIZE ON THE SPECTACULAR NATURAL

SURROUNDINGS, THE CLIENT REQUESTED THAT TWO DOUBLE-HEIGHT ADDITIONS BE

DESIGNED FOR THE HOUSE. AS THE PROJECT MANAGER, I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE

DESIGN, PERMITTING AND CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT OF THE RESIDENCE, AND FOUND IT TO BE AN INVALUABLE INSIGHT INTO GENERAL CONSTRUCTION AND DE-

SIGN METHODOLOGIES.

_ CITY OF HOPE MUSEUM BELZBERG ARCHITECTS

THIS SMALL MUSEUM IS THE FOCAL POINT OF A CAMPUS RENOVATION AT CITY OF HOPE, A LARGE AND STORIED CANCER RESEARCH HOSPITAL OUTSIDE OF LOS ANGELES. DESIGNED TO CONNECT DISJOINTED AXES WITHIN THE CAMPUS, ITS PRIMARY FEATURE IS A PAIR OF SCULPTURAL CONCRETE WALLS SURROUNDING AN OLD-GROWTH OAK TREE. MY

ROLE WITHIN THE PROJECT TEAM INCLUDED CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT AND PREPARATION OF CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS, INCLUDING THE COORDINATION OF PROFILE TEMPLATES REQUIRED IN THE CONSTRUC-

TION OF THE FEATURE WALLS.

_ ‘DIGITAL CROSSROADS’ MEDIA WALL BELZBERG ARCHITECTS

RESIDING IN THE SCHOOL OF GLOBAL AFFAIRS AT A LOS ANGELES UNIVERSITY, THE ‘DIGITAL CROSSROADS’ IS A SCULPTURAL INSTAL-

LATION WHICH EMPHASIZES GLOBAL CONNECTIVITY THROUGH INTERACTIVE MEDIA. AS THE LEAD DESIGNER I GUIDED THE PROJ-ECT THROUGH A VARIETY OF MATERIAL AND DESIGN ITERATIONS,

FINALLY CULMINATING IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A FORMED LAMINATED GLASS SYSTEM. IN EACH PHASE OF ITS CONCEPTION, COMPUTATIONAL MODELING AND DIGITAL FABRICATION WERE

CRITICAL TOOLS FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE PROJECT.

_ BARRINGTON RESIDENCE STAIR BELZBERG ARCHITECTS

SERVING AS THE VISUAL AND SPACIAL FOCAL POINT OF A HOME IN THE BRENTWOOD NEIGHBORHOOD OF LOS ANGELES, THIS

STAIR WAS DESIGNED TO VISUALLY EVOKE THE RADIAL MOVE-MENT OF THE STRUCTURE IT OCCUPIES. USING BOTH DIGITAL

FABRICATION METHODS AND INTRICATE HAND FINISH WORK, IT REPRESENTS AN INTERSECTION OF TECHNOLOGY AND CRAFTS-

MANSHIP.
