SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY John Phillips, Veterans Training Support Center (VTSC) - John Phillips, M.A.Ed. is the Training Manager of the Veterans Training Support Center (VTSC), a Counseling and Wellness program of the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs. VTSC coordinates and delivers continuing education on veteran related topics with funding from the King County Veterans and Human Services Levy and the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs PTSD & War Trauma Counseling Program. The aim of the VTSC is to raise awareness and understanding on issues specific to veterans such as invisible wounds like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury, and to encourage agency and institution staff to establish promising best practices that will empower this population in their reintegration and pursuit
of personal, academic, and meaningful career goals. Prior to joining VTSC, John Phillips spent three years supporting the enrollment and academic persistence of student veterans at South Seattle College. He is the Co-Chair of the King County Veterans Consortium. After serving seven years in the Marine Corps Reserve as an infantryman with two deployments, John transitioned to the Army Reserve where he continues to serve as a Civil Affairs Team Sergeant.
