Ultra Fast BroadbandLast week saw the turning on of our UFB connection. This has seen a marked improvement in our upload and download speeds which was imperative for our online learning initiatives. I would like to thank Rod Sinclair and his team at Focus Technology Group who continue to support our wireless and UFB infrastructure.

Fonterra 'Milk for Schools' LaunchOn Tuesday I participated in the launch of the Fonterra 'Milk for Schools' Programme in Southland. The formal part of this was held at Waverley Park School after an on-farm tour which Ben McCorkindale and Georgia Donaldson were part of. The Southland rollout is the first in the country after the trial period in Northland. About 70% of schools in Otago and Southland have signed up for this programme and we look forward to this initiative getting underway at our school in the next couple of weeks.

New Entrant information sessionToday after school Jan, Amy and Rachel (who is Jan's management release teacher on a Thursday) are running a parent session on the philosophy and reality of how our New Entrant room in Kauri 8 is running with their teaching team. This is something that we as a school are very passionate about and believe that it is giving our children the best possible transition from their kindergarten days to the next, and vitally important step, of establishing a firm foundation from which their successful learning journey at Myross Bush will be built on! If you can't make todays meeting after school and are interested in hearing about what our New Entrant room is doing please make an effort to touch base with our New Entrant Teaching Team.

Friends of the School MeetingThe Term 2 meeting for the Friends of the School is this Thursday, 7.30pm at Buster Crabb. They are a very supportive and enthusiastic representative group of our parent

community. If you are free that night then pop along to enjoy a fun, social and supportive group that makes a significant contribution to the life of our school.

Board MeetingNext Monday night is the last meeting of the present Board before the changeover with the mid term Board elections. Nominations for this close at noon this Thursday.

iPad 'myth busters' parents eveningOur iPad evening is rescheduled for Wednesday, 12 June @ 7pm (Week 6). Mark this date in your calendar to hear about why we have ipads in our school, how we are using them and what we are doing with them in our learning.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Internet Payments: Internet payments should be referenced with what the payment is for. With team payments, school account, trips etc all coming in, we’re sometimes not sure what the specific amount is for. An email detailing the internet payment has been sent by some parents and is a great help. Thank you.

Hi Viz Vests: Now that the dark mornings are here we ask that you ensure your child wears their vest to school every day if they have been issued with one. These are to be worn home after school also. The safety of our children is paramount and the best place to keep their vest is in their bag so they know where it is. Thank you.

Week 2 Term 2KAURI 8 (Mrs Polaschek& Mrs Forde)Kauri kids have been working so hard "at writing" said Katy, "at reading" said Emily Soper, "on self-improvement" said Hadlee, "on maths games" said Joseph, and "running around the field" said Cooper. We have begun training for cross-county each day so please check your child has suitable footwear for this. Certificates were awarded to our new children in assembly on Friday for the fantastic start they have made to school - Joseph, Katy, Emily, Max and Keeley. They are all getting very good at learning new routines. We are noticing how settled they are especially before school as they read yesterdays book to each other on the mat. Kapai.

RIMU 3 (Mrs Godby)Room Rimu had a great time at New River School listening to the two wonderful story tellers. We had to join in by doing some actions. We are concentrating on our comprehension strategies for both reading and writing. Last week we worked on Prior Knowledge which is what we already know about something and this week we are working on Predicting and Re-predicting which is guessing what will happen next in the story. RATA 4 (Mrs Aurik)The children will need shoes that are suitable for running in because we will be training for cross country most days (until mid June).  This week we have been thinking about our learning and finding out about some of the tools that help us to do this. Yesterday we went for an Autumn walk and are using our senses to help us write descriptively.  Thanks for another great week Evelyn.    

MIRO 5 (Mrs Kahukura) Miro are pleased to welcome Mrs Victoria Sheehy a second year student teacher. Victoria will be with us for two weeks, so we are excited to share our classroom. As the weather is cooling bringing coughs and sniffles, it would be a good idea for students to have their own supply of tissues. A change of clothing would also be helpful for those muddy outside days. MANUKA 6 (Mrs Carr) Remember that there are links off our school page with great apps! We are really excited to be learning about space! There are so many students that have shared a lot of great resources with their class mates, we are thankful for these being allowed to come to school. Certificates: Ben Hoffman for showing awesome Kotahitanga -helping out and showing kindness when you saw the need. TOTARA 7 (Miss Duncan)• We've been using the mini iPads so much every day to research and discuss news and current events in the morning. We write in our books a current event that we are interested in and give our opinions and try to look at things from different points of view. Then we put them onto our class page. My favourite article this week was about a girl being found in Bangladesh 17 days after the earthquake. Ben• For inquiry we have made posters and 'show-me' posts on the ipads to show prior knowledge of what we think happens between the moon, earth and sun and day and night. We have found out that the earth is on a tilt of 23.5 degrees and this affects the seasons. Jemmimah• This week we have been learning to read articles and put them into our own words. This helps us to read the newspaper and things on the internet and know what the main points are. Will

KOWHAI 2 (Mr Herring)Have you seen our planet art? We used collage in the style of Eric Carle (He illustrated 'The Hungry Caterpillar) and made an impression of our choice of planet. It was a good tuning in activity for our space inquiry this term. We also started learning about how Earth rotates and orbits. 

Yesterday Ben M went to the Fonterra launch for the 'Milk in Schools' programme. Ben said, 'I asked the farmer how many cows he had. He had 500 cows! It was cool because we learnt more about how they make the milk.'
