Quote of the Week
“Change is the result of true learning” – Leo Buscaglia
Attendance We finished Semester 1 with an overall attendance rate of 94.3%. This result is significantly more than this time last year (91.3%). It is also above the state average for Semester 1. ‘Every Day Counts’ has been a focus for our school and it is great that our attendance rate reflects the value that our families are placing on making sure that our students are attending school each and every day. Let’s see if we can hold our Term 3 attendance rate at this terrific level! National Pyjama Day Last Friday students and staff dressed in their favourite pair of pyjamas as part of National Pyjama Day to help the Pyjama Foundation raise much-needed awareness and funds for children in foster care. Overall, we donated $150 to the foundation. This money will be used to help offer learning skills to more than 1000 children, fund educational resources and help provide stable positive relationships. Well done students for supporting such a great cause. School Opinion Survey
Parent-Teacher Interviews Parent-Teacher interviews will be held throughout next week (27th – 31st July). We anticipate that all families will make the most of the opportunity to come in and have conversations with the class teachers. The interviews will provide families and teachers the opportunity to share more child-specific information or answer any questions that might have arisen from Semester 1 reports. Please come in so we can share your child’s achievements with you. Reading Data At the start of this year, we had a continued focus on reading and our school practices after reviewing our whole school data. After the latest data review we are pleased to share that we have continued to make good progress in this area. Our Term 2 result shows that we have 71% of students now performing at or above the mid-year Regional Benchmark level for reading. This improvement is great to see – our school target of 75% is the figure we are working towards. With this continued focus on reading we are confident that we will continue to see even more improvement in this area as we edge even closer to our target. Jeans for Genes Day Each year, Australians unite by wearing their favourite jeans to help raise money for the Children’s Medical Research Institute. This Institute works tirelessly to research genetic defects and childhood diseases in order to give kids around the world a better chance of a healthy, happy future. Our student council will hold a jeans day and ask students to make a gold coin donation on Friday 7th August. Every dollar raised helps scientists at the Children’s Medical Research Institute discover treatments and cures for childhood diseases, to give every child the opportunity to live a long and healthy life. We look forward to supporting such an important cause.

Positive Behaviour for Learning
(PBL)
BE RESPECTFUL BE A LEARNER BE SAFE
Behaviour of the week: I enter and leave the
room quietly.
This week in our Positive Behaviour for Learning lessons, the
students are learning to enter and leave the classroom quietly.
This positive behaviour expectation has a Be Respectful focus
and it is relevant to the classroom areas of the school. During
class, students will have discussions around the importance of
entering and leaving the classroom quietly. They will also
practise entering and leaving the classroom quietly.
Year 4 - 5 - 6 Class - Liz Lindsay Happy Week 2! This week, in English, we are continuing to
analyse author’s style. We are learning how authors use
language to create characters and develop the plot of a story.
In Maths, we are consolidating our understanding of fractions.
We are focusing on improper and mixed number fractions,
adding and subtracting fractions and solving word problems
involving fractions. As we get back into the swing of Term 3
students are being reminded daily of the 3B’s and their
importance. Please encourage students to demonstrate Being
Respectful, Being Safe and Being a Learner. Our 3B’s are values
that are vital for being successful students within our school
and local communities. Success is the sum of small efforts,
repeated day in and day out – Robert Collier. Homework was
sent home on Monday and must be returned and completed
on Friday. Finally, there is still time to book in a parent-teacher
interview. I cannot wait to meet with families to discuss
student’s progress and next steps. Have a great week!
Year 2 - 3 Class - Jess Jones This week in Year 2/3, we are looking at more procedural texts.
We are creating our own procedures using the books in
reading groups. For students to be successful they will need a
title, ingredient/material list, equipment list and method. We
will also be continuing the reading of “George’s Marvellous
Medicine”. The students have found this text very entertaining,
so make sure to ask them about George’s wicked medicine that
he makes for Grandma. In Maths, Year 2 are learning about
halves, quarters and eighths and Year 3 are learning about
money calculations. A busy and fun week in the Year 2/3 room.
I have attached a picture below of the art portraits we had lots
of fun creating last week.
Kindy - Prep - Year 1 Class - Kara Dawson Here is week 2! This year is going to go by faster than we can
blink! Can I say a big thank you to all the families who are
helping their child complete homework. It is awesome to see
their progress with all of your extra help. Homework folders
are to be taken home every Monday and then returned to the
homework folder box each Friday. Starting this week, every
child who returns their completed homework on Friday will
receive 10 tokens to add to their pockets! The students were all
very excited, I am sure they have already told you all about it
by now! One of our goals for the next little while is to improve
our writing! By the end of the term all students in Prep and
Year 1 will be writing a character description as part of their
assessment; so we need to make sure that we can all write full
sentences that make sense. Short writing activities will be
appearing in the homework folders in the coming weeks. Our
Kindy students will start up cooking next week, and the menu
will be sent to parents on Storypark and pinned to the wall in
the classroom for everyone to see. Thank you!
