O

My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of PENTECOST:

the Birthday of the Church.

Pentecost was originally a Jewish feast celebrated 50 days

after Passover. This feast commemorated the harvest and

the making of the Covenant on Mount Sinai.

For us, it is the celebration 50 days after Easter when the

Holy Spirit, the Advocate, is given to the Church.

Strengthened by the outpouring of the Holy spirit, the

Apostles went forth from the Upper Room and began to

proclaim boldly the Gospel Message.

On this Pentecost, let us reaffirm our Faith and step

forward to continue His work in all we say and do. Let us

recommit ourselves to the Faith that we hold dear.

Congratulations to all those who have graduated this week

in our parish church: from Benedictine High School on

Tuesday, from Corpus Christi Academy on Wednesday,

and from the Lyceum on Saturday. A most special note

of well wishes goes out to the graduates at our Corpus

Christi Academy. You have done so well! Make us proud

as you step forward in High School. Remain faithful to

Holy Mass and the Church. God bless you. Please know

of my prayers.

God bless you this Pentecost. Fr. Ireland

Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary between 1673 and

1675. Among the words spoken to her, she heard Jesus

make several promises to those who would respond to the

pleadings of His Heart and make an effort to return His love.

She wrote them down, and they have come to be known as

the Twelve Promises.

Promise 1

I will give them all the graces necessary for their state

in life.

Promise 2

I will establish peace in their families.

Promise 3

I will console them in their difficulties.

Promise 4

I will be their secure refuge during life, and more especially,

at the hour of death.

Promise 5

I will shower down abundant blessings on all their

undertakings.

Promise 6

Sinners shall find in My Heart the source and infinite ocean

of mercy.

Promise 7 Lukewarm souls will become fervent.

Promise 8 Fervent souls will rise speedily to great perfection.

Promise 9

I will bless every place in which the picture of My Sacred

Heart shall be exposed and honored.

Promise 10

I will give to Priests the power of touching the most

hardened hearts.

Promise 11

Those who spread this devotion will have their names

written in My Heart, and they will never be effaced.

Promise 12

I will grant the grace of final repentance to all those who

will receive Communion on the first Friday nine months

consecutively.
