richards has proudly served the utility industry since 1945, earning the respect of customers and competitors alike.

to have remained successful after all these years in a demanding industry that has seen so many other businesses come and go is no simple task. It takes a lot of hard work by many people — starting with our cEo who still oversees all operations everyday … continuing on down to the individuals on the production lines who carefully craft every product bearing the richards name. they all share one common focus: satisfying the needs of you, our customer.

You want reliability — we manufacture top-quality products that exceed your expectations. In fact, many nonstandard and specialty products are designed, manufactured and tested to meet our customers’ requirements.

You want a trusted partner you can always turn to for any problem that arises in the field — so we are extending our product lines to the point that we’re able to address any and all of your utility needs.

above ground, below ground — from the poles right up to the customer’s meter — we’ve got you connected.

SECtIon 1 600/900a SERIES DEaDbREak overview

600A deadbreak Elbow connectors and Accessories from richards Manufacturing provide an easy way to terminate cables and equipment and splice primary cable at 15 and 25kV. the 600A Elbow is fully shielded and features a bolted connection in either aluminum (600A) or copper (900A). Accessories are available for insulating, testing, grounding and circuit expansion.

If you are splicing cables together, see the r-Stack section on page HV8.

richards 600/900-amp, 15 and 25kV class, Separable Elbow connector components have been designed and tested per the following industry standards:

ANSI/IEEE Std 386: •For Separable Insulated connector SystemsANSI c119.4: For Electric connectors•IEEE Std 592: For Exposed Semiconducting Shields•

We do more testing than industry standards require. IEEE 386 requires either Impulse or AC Withstand. We run both on all of our products.

Stack

We do more testing than industry standards require. IEEE 386 requires either Impulse or AC Withstand. We run both on all of our products.

the r-Stack is a new 600A elbow with a connecting plug molded directly into the elbow body. this new design offers a more reliable, easier-to-install option at a reduced cost. Its smaller stack height (four inches for every two elbows) is invaluable in small cabinets and manholes. It is fully tested prior to shipment, and requires just 25 lbs of force and a single tool to install.

No spanner wrench is needed for this installation.

SECtIon 2 R-StaCk Stack Height Comparison

From left to right, a standard Richards 600A elbow vs. the Richards R-Stack and R-800 vs. two competitors’ elbows joined with a connecting plug followed by an RTW and bushing insert.

The Richards R-Stack reduces stack height 4" for every two elbows.

SEE tHE dIFFErENcE! the R-Stack Reduces Stack Height by 20%! A 600A connector with the connecting plug molded into

the elbow body, our r-Stack eliminates the need for a

separate piece — resulting in reduced stack height. In

fact, using the r-Stack reduces the stack height 4" for

every two elbows (a 20% reduction).

richards is committed to discovering new ideas that

improve the safety, convenience and reliability for our

customers. our r-Stack is proof of this commitment.

For more information about the r-Stack, please contact

your local sales representative or the richards factory.

Its size makes it invaluable in small cabinets and manholes.

SECtIon 3 R-800 overview

800

the 600-amp elbow and 200-amp tap plug are molded together into one convenient unit. reliability is improved, by eliminating the risk of sweat, dirt, water or other contaminants getting onto the interface during installation. And fewer pieces not only increase reliability, but reduce costs as well. So what was once a messy, hit-or-miss task requiring as much patience as muscle has been simplified by this one handy self-contained unit! And it’s 100% compatible with other manufacturers’ components.

We do more testing than industry standards require. IEEE 386 requires either Impulse or aC Withstand. We run both on all of our products.

More insulation. that’s what makes our Loadbreak Elbow better than other similar products on the market today. Additional insulation makes our elbow more reliable, enabling it to outlast competitors’ pieces while keeping it competitively priced.

richards is committed to discovering new ideas that will improve our products and increase their safety and reliability for our customers. our 200 Amp Loadbreak Elbow is proof of this commitment.

We do more testing than industry standards require. IEEE 386 requires either Impulse or aC Withstand. We run both on all of our products.

richards 200A Loadbreak Elbow was designed and validated against the following industry standards:

ANSI/IEEE Std 386: For Separable Insulated connector Systems •ANSI c119.4: For Electric connectors•IEEE Std 592: For Exposed Semiconducting Shields•
