BITA started a project named “People’s Jubilant Engagement for Tobacco Free Chittagong City” on August 2018 by the support of CTFK grant. The overall purpose of the campaign project is to effective implementation of the Tobacco Control law with an emphasis on the Tobacco Advertisement, Promotion and Sponsorship (TAPS) ban Provisions. Regarding of project baseline Ayesha Ahmad, MPH, Program and Financial Compliance Officer, International Grants Program of Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids,USA visited BITA on 7 August 2018. She meets with BITA management and project staffs and attended a planning workshop and visit to Chottogram City Major. During the workshop organizational overview analysis of local context emphasis on Chittagong, review and discuss proposed activities, Key deliverables, Obstacles and changes. In this workshop from partner’s organization ELLMA (Ensure Legal Support through Local Movement and Actions) executive director Jasmin Sultana Paru, CAB (Consumer Association of Bangladesh) Chittagong president S M Nazer Hossain and BITA E.C (executive committee) member Mousumi Chowdhury also attended into the workshop. Later no she introduced with A.J.M Nasir Uddin, Chottogram City Mayor sharing about program objectives strategy of intervention. City Mayor expressed her gratitude and shown his support to make success the project in Chottogram City. Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman Bhuiyan, Grants Manager,CTFK (Bangladesh) also attended in the visit.

BITA is conducting 40 Ananda School (ROSC Project) in Chattagram City Corporation area from 2017 by the support

of Primary Education Ministry, technical support of Save the Children International, funded by World Bank. BITA arranged refreshers training for the project teachers from 4-09-2018 to 19-09-2018.The training launching program arranged by BITA on 04-09-2018 in the hotel Pavilion at Chattagram. The Chief guest of the program was Mr Delwar Hossain, project director and additional secretary, special guest was Mr Sultan Mia, deputy director, primary education Chattagram. Mr Nuruzzaman Mallik, Kazi Sultan Ahmed, Save the Children representative and Sisir Dutta, Executive Director, BITA were present in the program. Project Director and Additional Secretary Mr Delwar Hossain said that ROSC is one of the noble steps for under privileged children.Drop out and working children have no chance to go to mainstream of primary education. ROSC is an initiative for those children to continue their education. “Education for all” to achieve this slogan ROSC is a great initiative. This project have started 9 divisional city thus no children will stay out of school. About 5650 learners are reading in the ROSC Ananda school in Chattagram city out of 42000 in 9 Division. The curriculum of the project is NCTB curriculum but it is accelerated model/accelerated syllabus. This training is on the technique of accelerated model education. Total 140 teachers participated in the training in 5 batch where 137 female and 3 male. The trainers of the training were Master Trainers of Gov’t Primary school. Training was continuing 10 days in BITA training center in Patiya. The trainers were Sumon Chakraborty, Nazir Ahmed, Swapan Kanti Nath, Selim Uddin, Md Mohim Uddin, Syed Md Mostafizur Rahman, Josna Begum, Nilufar Yesmin and Asim Kumar Debnath.

BITA has been implementing a new intervention with unicef

namely “Promoting Social Engagement Through Cultural Initiatives for Protecting Environment” at Ukhiya and Teknaf. In this work period major purpose is to increase participation of adolescents girls and boys( 70% girls & 30 % boys) through cultural and social interaction initiatives to build community resilience and support system to prevent and respond child protection, GVB and other community issues. At the same time this venture will enhance capacity of communities and parents to care their children; identify and encourage existing positive coping mechanism. BITA’s recent work experience with Rohingya adolescents and community resulted in increased understanding and sensitization on child protections issues in considerable extent, exploring intergenerational linkage and get rid of adolescents’ psychological distress. We are addressing 1050 adolescents groups of our child protection partners and 237 CBCPC committee. Targeting these people we are trying to do some innovative acts that directly engage 105 socio cultural action groups covering 2625 adolescents. Tempting 237 CBCPC that initiating to solve problems of community people by using their own capacity and responsibility. To launch the project purpose with working set a three- day long orientation meeting was held at Ukhiya. 17 sessions were there that introduce with BITA’s specialty of cultural approach, process and methodology of TFD, policy of child safe guarding, concept of gender financial approach etc. of the project. Executive director of BITA Sisir Dutta was the key person of overall program and Ms. Mousumi Chowdhury,Board Member of Executive Committee, BITA conducted some session. Total participants were 52, out of them female were 27 & male were 25.

BITA and YPSA jointly arranged a Validation workshop on “Situation analysis on economic opportunity

for youths”on 25 September 2018 at the Pit Stop restaurant in Chotogram by the support of Action Aid Bangladesh.The workshop is organized under the project of Action for Impact. Through the situation analysis expectation of youth on employment opportunities, crisis, area of advantages and disadvantages, opportunity of service providing organizations, limitation and recommendations are overviewed to the audiences. As Chief Guest MdShahidulIslam, deputy director, social welfare Chattagram district, special guest MdJahanUddin, Youth affairs officer, Chottogram district, ShahanaPervin, district officer, JatiyaMohilaSangtha, Chottogram, Eng.Md B M Shariful Islam, principal, CNTTC, Eng,MdNazrul Islam, principal, BKTTC, Md Ashraf Uddin, UCEP regional Manager and ShakhawatHossain, training officer of Shyamoli Ideal Training institute attended into the validation workshop. The workshop presided over MrArifurRahman, Chief Executive, YPSA and Welcome speech delivered by SisirDutta, Executive Director, BITA. The representative of Action Aid Bangladesh MrHatem Ali discussed about the “Action for Impact” project. A total of 38 participants including youths were attended in the workshop.

A motivational training/workshop is organized for DEMO (District

Employment and Man Power office) and TTC (Technical Training Centre) district level officials under Chittagong division on 08 September 2018 at Women TTT Chittagong. The major Objectives of the event were to develop effective coordination and integration among the Government bodies, civil society organizations and institution to combat human trafficking and promote safe migration and developed strong networking among the service organizations providing best service for potential migrant The Training is organized by BITA by technical support of WinRock International and financial support by USAID. Under the WinRock intervention BC-TIP program, the event is organized where engineer B.M. Shariful Islam, principal of WTTC preside the training program. As special guests Miss Liesbeth Zonneveld Chief of Party, WinRock International and SIsir Dutta, Executive Director of BITA attended. Miss Liesbeth Zonneveld said in her speech that she is impressed to introduce with training participants including good amount of women participation and it’s shown the attitude of participants. The outlook and coordination can support to achieve the expected result regarding human trafficking and safe migration. Moreover BITA Executive Director said that we are working for long time to combat human trafficking issue in this region. This training is significant for us to explore some of direction for future intervention. Besides participations of DEMO & TTC officials’ union CTC members, UDC representatives, peer leaders from Patiya, Anwara, Banshkhali also attended. The training workshop is facilitated by Khandakar Shohel Rana, Prevention and communication manager, WinRock International, Bangladesh.

Training on Gender Sensitive Public services

BITA- EWASC project arranged a training program

on “Gender Sensitive Public services”at 18-19 September 2018 at Prama Abriti Parisad Auditorium in Chottogram by the support of ActionAid Bangladesh. 22 young participants including 12 are male and 10 are female attended in the training from BITA’s working area of 9 and 29 no ward of Chattagram City Corporation. As focal presenter BITA Gender focal person Kanij Farhana conducted the training sessions including Bappa Chowdhury, Coordiantor BITA and Murad Hasan. The contents of the training were understanding gender, gender Equality, gender sensitivity and its importance, Moreover the basic understanding of social monitoring, the step of social monitoring also discussed with gender relation. All the participants prepared questioner for effective monitoring of service by the group work and developed anaction plan.

EYE Camp in Ananda School of ROSC-II project

BITA is conducting 40 Ananda School (ROSC Project) in Chattagram City Corporation area where 8-14 years

old under privilege children are reading in these schools. UdayanGaliAnanda School is one of those schools. 180 learners are reading in that school. An eye camp organized in the school by the help of Chattagram Central Lions Club and Chattagram Central Leo Club. The Doctor of Lions Club tested the eye of 140 children and 50 guardian of the school. They donated free medicine and spectacles to the learners and guardians. They also committed to provide advance level eye treatment if necessary. They also distributed white writing paper, exercise book, pencil Box, pen, rubber and file to the learners. They donated 3 baskets for the school. All the learners and Guardians are very much happy to get such services.

August 1-5 2018, BITA Executive Director attended a 31th International Conference of American

Alliance for Theatre Education (AATE) at Minneapolls in USA. In the conference academician, teacher and student of various universities on Theatre Education are attended. BITA Executive Director shared his experience and present status of Theatre Education practices of Bangladesh and Asia pacific with representatives from different educational institution in the conference. He also attended a bi lateral meeting with Alexis Truitt, managing director of AATE. BITA executive director expect his support from AATE regarding support providing at formal & informal institution can given assistance in school, college and university level to practice of Theatre Education in Bangladesh. Some of program ideas have been planned for future implementation.

Pradip Acharjee, Program coordinator of

BITA achieved Cross Culture Program (CCP) 2017 in Germany for 2 months duration of middle March 2018 to middle May 2018. The program had been launched within the Federal Government’s Policy of dialogue with the Muslim world.

It is implemented by the ifa(Institutfür Auslands beziehungen) within the frame work of the “European-Muslim Cultural Dialogue” organized by the Federal Foreign office of Germany. During his internship he worked the organization of Junges Ensemble Stuttgart (JES) in Germany. It was good start of Pradip Acharjee in JES to learning the process of young theatre club, adult theatre performances for young audiences, class room play, creative sessions with kinder, preparation for school theatre and absolutely took part in international theatre festival. During his internship in JES he closely observed the intervention process of JES, articulating learning and way of new ideas and innovation in performing art of Theatre for young audiences. Moreover during his visit time there wasan International and regional Theatre Festival for “Schöne Aussicht/Bright View 2018” held on 05-12 May 2018 organized by JES. It was a remarkable experience for him to attending such kind of event in Europe for the first time. There are 21 theatre show are preformed where 10 theatre production are out of Germany. Pradip Acharjee truly will try to improve his achieving imagination for young theatre in Bangladesh with expecting continuous inspiring support from those organizations in future.

2 August 2018 a visit is occurred by ROSC (reaching out of school children) program team from Dhaka. The visit teams are visited 2 of (Pre Vocational Skills Training) centre at Godarbil in Taknaf and Moricha in Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar. From visitors team Nuruzzaman Mallick, Deputy Director and Moshrakul Alam Assistant Director, ROSC program, ministry of primary & mass education are attended. They visited different trade based trainings and discussed with trainers and learners groups. During their visit Save the Children representative and local influential persons, are also present. The visitors team given suggestion to create more effective livelihood support for the young learners.

Md Shafique Uddin is a member of Sufir Hut Bazaar ward at Char Algi union in Ramgoti Upazilla of Laxmipur district. He is also a panel chairman of that union. He is the elected member of three times. He is known as an honest man in the area. He has been helping all the task of BITA for supporting oldest person from the beginning of IDR-II project. Shafique Uddin is the social worker of Sufir Hut Bazar in the Algi union.

He is very much inspired by the activities of BITA supporting of oldest people. He seemed oldest peoples are the negligible persons in family and society. In the disaster devour area oldest peoples are so much helpless. In the char area the time of very hot and thunderstorm, oldest people doing the domestic and agriculture work. Mr Shafique Uddin distributed umbrella among the ultra poor oldest persons to get protection from the sunshine and rain. In the area of Sufir hut bazar at char Algi union he distributed 93 umbrella to the 93 ultra poor oldest persons by his own initiative. In the grass root level of Char Algi union a disaster risk reduction plan was prepared by the initiative of BITA formed Disaster Management Committee helped by Help Age international. In that planning a work planned that umbrella and stick will be distribute among the oldest persons. There were 10 Disaster Management Committee (area wise) in the Char Algi union for disaster risk reduction. Compile disaster risk reduction work plan of 10 groups proposed to the Char Algi union Disaster Management Committee. At that time union parisad member Mr Shafique Uddin was present there. He appreciated the work plan of those group and he gave encouragement that if he get a chance he will do something for the oldest people.

In support with UNICEF, BITA has been implementing the

project namely “Promoting Social Engagement through

Cultural Initiatives for Protective Environment” with existing

adolescents groups and CBCPC members of UNICEF child

protection partners. The key participants of the project are

adolescent boys and girls, CBCPC members, parents, religious

leaders, community people. By the ensuring of CBCPC members

participation ‘develop community action’ is the most one activity

of the project to boost their involvement in community level

problem solving processes and initiatives. BITA had facilitated to

develop community action plan through interaction and meeting

with BRAC formed CBCPC members dated on 12 August 2018 at

DD24 block of Kutupalong,

Camp 3, under Ukhiya upazila in Cox’s Bazar district. Total 17 persons (male 11, female 6) were present

there. In the meeting they identified some problems which they can solve themselves with the unity of fellow

community people. They understood the necessity to create hygienic environment and work for waste

management to mitigate health risks of dwellers especially children. Through participatory discussion they

developed a community action plan to address some block problems. In the plan they pointed out the lack of

dustbin problem and discussed on the issue details.

dustbin in block level by the community

initiatives. All the CBCPC members have given

responsibility to Block Majhi Hosen to perform this

assignment.

According to the community action plan and group

decision Hosen Majhi has taken initiative to create

groundbreaker hole as a mobile dustbin for

household waste management dated on 10.09.2018

engaging CBCPC members and others block

people. Then they announced in block level to use

this hole as a dustbin and prohibit throwing

everywhere of household waste. For monitoring

and maintenance, they also develop a group from

block people.

Community people also committed to support household waste management by using this dustbin for better

environment.By this initiative around 1240 (Child 620) will be benefitted by use of dustbin. These types of

initiatives will be more effective for people in the camps and it will help them to stay with unity and help

them doing something for themselves.The Rohingya community gave thanks to BITA for showing them such

a way for waste management.
