From the Pastor’s Desk Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

During this time of Advent we are all running around and concerned with many things to ensure that our celebration of Christmas will be “happy” and “enjoyable.” I read a n article recently by Allison Gingras titled “4 Practical Ways to Stay Connected to Jesus.” As we continue to prepare for Christmas, I think that these four suggestions can help us keep Jesus in Christmas.

1. Build a Daily Practice of Prayer (even if it means praying in the bathroom) Prayer is simply a conversation with Jesus. Of course, formal times of prayer are spiritually beneficial, however, daily life can sometimes make them impossible. While a simple chat with Jesus can happen any time and any place. Some ideas: Pray when you first wake up or just before you fall asleep. Pray in your car — as your drive to work or running errands pray for your neighbors, the people in your community, and even the dead as you pass a cemetery. Pray during chores, nothing makes folding laundry, washing dishes, or vacuuming more appealing than praying for the people who dirtied them in the first place.

2. Develop a Daily Practice of Reading the Scriptures What a gift the Bible is! We have been given access to the teachings of God, think about the magnificence of what the Scriptures provide us. The inspired Word of God available for us to read, ponder, and learn, through the power of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is kind of mind-blowing! Some Ideas: Read the daily Mass readings. Try “Bible Roulette”. Simply pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance, and then open the Bible to a random page and let Jesus surprise you.

3. Continue Your Faith Education with Spiritual Reading Despite what many believe, Confirmation was not our “graduation” from reli-gious education but instead is our invitation to seek a higher education in the Catholic faith. When we consider the fact we are seeking to probe an unfathomable God it is truly impossible to deplete the resources available to grow in knowledge of him. Some ideas. Read the Exploring the Catholic Classics: How Spiritual Reading Can Help You Grow in Wisdom, by Tiffany Walsh (monthly contributor at CatholicMom.com, contribu-ting writer for The Catholic Hipster Handbook); part of the Stay Connected Journals for Catholic Women series available from GraceWatch.Media.

4. Meet Regularly with Others on the Same Journey The Apostles were sent two by two to bring the Gospel far and wide. Jesus knew they would need each other as companions and support on their journeys of faith. We too need others alongside us on our faith journeys. There are great benefits to being connected with friends who can lift us up when we are feeling weak or discou-raged in our faith, or being able to offer that support likewise to our friends. It is also a joy to be surrounded at times by people who share in the joy of living a life seeking a deeper relationship with Christ. Some ideas: Start a small group faith sharing or bible study at your church. Really live the “gospel of hospitality” and invite others into your home for a book club. Create a virtual faith sharing group via your social media.

Del Escritorio del Párroco Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

2. Praktyka codziennego czytania Pisma Świętego Jaki podarunek jest w Biblii! Otrzymaliśmy dostęp do nauk Boga! Czytaj czytania z codziennej Mszy. Przed czytaniem Pisma Swietego mó-dlcie się o swiatlo Ducha Świętego, a następnie otwórzcie Biblię na przypadkowej stronie i pozwólcie Jezusowi was zaskoczyć.

3. Poglebiaj swoja wiary dzięki czytaniu ksiazek religijnych Czytaj artykuly w czasopismach religijnych lub korzystaj z Internetu, by wys-luchac kazania.

4. Regularnie spotykaj się we wspolnocie osob wierzacych Apostołowie zostali posłani po dwóch, aby nieść Ewangelię daleko. Jezus wiedział, że będą potrzebować siebie nawzajem jako towarzyszy i wsparcia podc-zas podróży wiary. My także potrzebujemy innych, którzy towarzyszą nam podczas naszych pielgrzymki wiary. Naprawdę żyjcie "ewangelią gościnności" i zapraszajcie innych do swojego domu .

FOOD OF THE MONTH CLUB

It’s December, it’s Advent, we’re all preparing for Christmas, and what better way to prepare than to do something good for someone in need. St. Vincent De Paul is looking for your help

in filling a need in our Food Pantry. We’re running low on Spaghetti O’s, Ravioli and Canned Pasta Dinners. All of our

families seem to love them, so during the month of December, we are asking for your help with donations of the following:

SPAGHETTI OS

CANNED RAVIOLIANY OTHER TYPE OF CANNED PASTA DINNERS

Please folks, check your donations and make sure that the dates are not expired, as we are unable to use expired

products.

Your donations can be placed in the box located in the vestibule of the church when you come to Mass, or they can

be taken to the Rectory during normal business hours.

Please take this opportunity to help all the needy families in our parish. Thank you for your donations and may

God Bless You for your generosity.

St. Anne’s Christmas Party The St. Anne’s Society will be holding its Christmas Party Celebration on Monday, December 17th at 6:00 PM in Felician Hall. We will be serving a delicious Christmas

dinner. The cost for our dinner is $12.00 per person.

The money may be dropped off at the rectory. Please put your name on the envelope and mark it “St. Anne’s

Christmas Party.” FOR THOSE WHO WILL BE PAYING AT THE DOOR ON THE DAY OF THE PARTY, PLEASE CALL GERI BIEL ON HER CELL PHONE (773-520-6733) AND

LET HER KNOW IF YOU WILL BE COMING SO WE CAN PLACE OUR ORDER IN ADVANCE. CALL THIS NUMBER

ALSO IF YOU NEED A RIDE.

ONCE AGAIN, INSTEAD OF HAVING A GRAB BAG, WE WOULD LIKE TO HELP THE ST. VINCENT DE PAUL

SOCIETY WITH THEIR CHRISTMAS HAND OUT. WE ARE ASKING IF YOU CAN, TO PUT A MONETARY GIFT IN AN ENVELOPE AND MARK IT “ST. VINCENT DE PAUL”. THIS

WAY, THEY CAN USE THE MONEY AS THEY SEE FIT.

Let us share the Christmas spirit with those who may have less than we have. Mark the date on your calendars,

DECEMBER 17th, at 6:00 PM in Felician Hall. So come one and all and bring a friend as we celebrate Christmas with our St. Anne’s members and help to make our early

Christmas celebration a little more enjoyable for all. Remember, when you are not here, you are missed.

REJOICE! Today has traditionally been called “Gaudete Sunday.” The Latin tag is derived from Paul’s appeal in the second reading to “rejoice always in the Lord,” and the Latin Mass text based on

that reading. The irony and paradox of this Christian joy is underlined by the fact that Paul wrote those words in prison. But

from there he could see the progress of God’s work. Is it obvious to us? We feel that this is not the time for joy when there is so much suffering and moral evil. It is interesting, then, that the

first reading is from the prophet Zephaniah, who is almost exclusively concerned with gloomy visions of Judgment Day.

Today the Church selects the only optimistic text in Zephaniah, in which the prophet has been touched by the spirit of joy.

THANK YOU FROMTHE ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

Once again, the Annual St. Vincent de Paul Thanksgiving Distribution was a huge success, due to the generosity of so many of you. Because of you, we were able to provide all of our families who

attended with Turkeys and all the trimmings. At this time, we would like to thank everyone who helped us provide a great Thanksgiving dinner for all those in need.

First of all, to all of you, the FAMILY OF ST. TURIBIUS, for your consistent help with donations of food and monetary gifts. You are the main support of our organization, and your generosity has

always been something that we can depend on.

Another thank you to our Building Engineer, MR. BRAULIO ALVARADO, for setting up all the tables and chairs in the hall for the evening, Once again this year, a great big thank you to BINGO MIKE and the ST. TURIBIUS BINGO PATRONS, for their very generous weekly donations of food. Mike explained our Thanksgiving Distribution, he sent out the call for food, and the bingo patrons

responded in the most wonderful way.

A very special Thank You this year to one of our Parishioners, MR. KEN SHINKUS, for all of his hard work on the evening of our Distribution. Ken had heard that we were short handed and could use a little help, so he arrived early to help carry and set up all the food, stayed all evening to help distribute the food, and was one of the last people to leave the hall, after all the food was returned to the Pantry and the hall was finally cleaned. We often talk of the fact that we are the Family of

St. Turibius, and, even though he is not a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society, as a member of the St. Turibius Family, Ken did what families do, he stepped up to help us out. Thank you Ken.

Another great big thank you to some of the best kids in the world, our very own ST. TURIBIUS RELIGIOUS EDUCATION STUDENTS. They arrived early in the evening, and carried all the

stored food from the convent and the rectory over to the church basement. They helped set it up on the tables so that it could be viewed and distributed to all of our families. Their smiling faces

and helping hands were visible all evening as they helped our clients fill their bags with food, and helped carry the food out to their waiting cars. They stayed until the very end and helped return all the food to the Pantry in the Rectory and helped clean up the hall. We cannot say enough about

all these wonderful kids --- may God Bless them as they prepare for their Confirmation.

To the members of the ST. TURIBIUS YOUTH GROUP, who volunteered two weekends of their time to stand outside the Jewel Food Store on Pulaski to collect funds for the needy, thereby

enabling that Jewel store to donate packages of Turkey and all the trimmings to our Thanksgiving Distribution. Another great big Thank You to the JEWEL FOOD STORE on 53rd and Pulaski Road

for their consistent donations of food for our Thanksgiving celebrations.

In closing, we would like to thank everyone who helped make this evening a huge success. TheThanksgiving Distribution is a vital part of our Mission to serve, and it is also a complex evening

involving a great deal of physical labor, which we could never accomplish without everyone’s help. Our favorite method of thanking you is to say, God Bless You All and, once again, we couldn’t

have done it without you!

We Are One Family, Encircled by God’s Love!

Saint Turibius Parish

Parish Mission Statement

We Believe that God is Love, and when we live in love we live in God and God lives in

us! Therefore we, the Parish Family of Saint Turibius, dedicate ourselves to living out

Christ’s Great Commandment: we will love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength, and we will show our love for God

by the way we love and care for one another. To this end, we will respond to our baptismal

call, strengthened by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and empowered by

the Holy Spirit. As a Family of Faith that has an Attitude of Gratitude for the gifts God has given to us, we will share our time, our talent

and our treasure with each other. We welcome into our parish family all people, because we

believe that together we are the Body of Christ and together we can bring the love, peace,

forgiveness, healing, and joy of Christ into our community in ways we never could have if we were to remain apart. May all who meet us, who worship with us, who work and play with

us, know we are Christians by our love!
