Tug CHICKAMAUGASinking – Eagle Harbor

What happened:• Vessel sank while

moored to the pier in Eagle Harbor due to existing hull damage and heavy rains

Significance:• Keel was laid in 1915. This

was the first diesel tug built in Washington State.

An estimated 300 gallons of petroleum products discharged into Eagle Harbor.

Due to the quick action by the Bainbridge Island Fire Department, the vessel was completely boomed off before the vessel began to discharge, significantly mitigating the area contaminated by petroleum products.
