Choose an option that most logically completes the paragraph.
N is a Number : A Portrait of Paul Erdsis one of the most delightful, endearing and
probably one of the best documentaries I have seen on an individual. I have always regarded
Paul Erds as one of my personal heroes and hence it seems weird that I had not seen this
rather old documentary earlier. Especially given its extremely high quality, appeal and not to
mention the character it is based on. _______.
OPTIONS
1) Erds was an extremely prolific and famously eccentric mathematician.
2) There is the famous Erds number that gives the collaborative distance of a
mathematician with him.
3) However, it is never late to discover something so good.
4) Of course, documentaries cannot capture the essence of a genius.
DiscussGet In EmailGet this!
Solution
The emphasis in the paragraph is how the writer had missed the documentary. Hence option
3 brings the feelings of regret (and the paragraph) to an end as he has now seen it.Option 4 contradicts the positive way in which the author has described the documentary.
The descriptions of the mathematician, as given in options 1 and 2, do not help to complete
the paragraph, as the purpose of the paragraph is not to highlight the mathematician, but the
documentary.
Hence, the correct answer is option 3.

Telecom industry has to correct itself to sustain: Sanjay Kapoor, Bharti Airtel
In an interview with ET Now, Sanjay Kapoor , CEO ( India & South Asia), Bharti
Airtel, shares his views on the issues concerning the telecom industry today.
Excerpts:
ET Now: I will start with the very basic question. In the Indian telecom industry,
who is currently enjoying the pricing power, the customer or the company?
Sanjay Kapoor: As far as the Indian market is concerned, we all know that inany 14-player scenario, no matter which part of the world you operate in, the
pricing power tends to erode and that is a single phenomena that has been
plaguing the Indian telecom industry for the last couple of years. However,
even in that market, you see that there tends to be a consolidation amongst
the big players and if you look at a 14-player scenario, still the top 3 or 4
players virtually have 70% of the market which still tells you that the pricing
power sits with the bigger brands like Bharti Airtel in the market place.
However, in a 14-player scenario to have large premiums and pricing power is
not possible based on share economics.
ET Now: What about the overall market sentiment when it comes to telecom
because last few quarters were marked by largely stable telecom metrics
across the industry. Would you agree that the worst is over for the space or do
you think there is still an overhang of regulatory, scam-related issues which
continue to plague the sector?

Sanjay Kapoor: When you look at an overall performance of the industry,
clearly evident from the numbers is the fact that most of the players
competing in this market are competing at price points and financials which do
not justify a long-term sustainance. So the industry has to correct itself with or
without regulation to make sure that it is sustainable on a long term basis to be
able to service the customer with newer technologies and better service going
forward. So that is given, I think.
ET Now: So what about Bharti in particular?
Sanjay Kapoor: In a 14-player scenario, there is hardly any example in the
world where the market leader enjoys a 30% market share in a crowdedmarket and despite of a big onslaught is able to sustain his position and shares
in the ballparks. So we guys have done fabulously well in the market on the
mobile side on new businesses that we have entered into from behind,
whether it is Sri Lanka or Bangladesh or DTH. We have come very strongly from
behind and even businesses like Telemedia which is our fixed line and
broadband business, we have been able to convert the model in a market
where the voice has been depleting out of fixed line to a very strong data-
oriented business. Given the circumstances, we have definitely done well.
ET Now: What about the way forward for Bharti in particular because FY11,
you saw integration of the Africa business, we saw steady ARPUs and margins
in the Indian business as well. What do you think would be the drivers in the
next fiscal?
Sanjay Kapoor: The great news and the great opportunity that India facestoday is that India is polarised on the voice front. While the metros in India
seem to be about 100% penetrated, the rural part of the country is still 35-36%
penetrated and there is a huge amount of opportunity because the rural
populous in this country is equivalent to the size of many or more than the size
of many countries and that is a great opportunity still uncovered on voice side
of things.

Then comes the great opportunity in India of young populous and that is true
for actually all the 19 countries that we operate in. The population is very
young and we believe that if there is a propensity in the customer segment
group to bridge the digital divide, it is this group that can make it happen. And
in data and broadband, India is very much where voice was in 1994-1995 less
than 1% penetrated and in a country like ours, wireless seems to be the only
way of connecting people to the internet. So going forward, that story begins
all over again, the counters are set to zero and you will see a northward climb
on data in this country. We honestly believe that over the next 10 years, the
data consumption amongst many Indians will multiply a 1000x.
