ST. REGIS STEWARDSHIP CORNER A profound stewardship prayer is offered by the young King Solomon in today’s first reading. He asks the Lord to give him an understanding heart, compassion towards God’s people and the insight to distinguish right from wrong. An understanding heart, or wisdom, is a gift from God. It is a gift that enables us to make good decisions and prudent choices. Cultivating and sharing this gift is essential, especially when poor decisions and lack of compassion have consequences that affect the lives of others. During these disquieting times, are we asking God for an understanding heart? Are we exercising good stew-ardship over the gift of wisdom? Are we sharing our compassionate hearts with others?
ITA MAURA NEWS Meet a St. Regis Educa-tional Endowment recipi-ent: Jennifer Azucena Ri-vera Guzman DOB: April 12, 2004
She is an Ita Maura Schol-ar projected to graduate from her high school, In-stituto Nacional de San Pablo Tacachico, in No-vember 2020.
“The impact this scholar-ship has had on my life is the economic help, as many times the resources we have at home are not enough to continue studying, and for this the program is such a big opportunity.
The program has benefited the community, helping many young people with their studies, both in high school and the university. It’s also offered different training sessions so young people of the community could learn things like “public speaking” & “environmental awareness”.
The greatest obstacle has been the distance from my community to the education center. Because of a lack of resources, transportation is difficult. There is an insecu-rity that young people face when we leave our houses.
After graduation, I plan to keep studying for a university degree. I want to be a professional and be able to help my family and the young people of my community so they can also have the opportunity to keep studying.”
Please keep Jennifer in your prayers!

FAREWELL JIM BRANDON Dear St. Regis Parishioners, I want to personally thank Jim Brandon who has been the Director of our maintenance, grounds and operations for 15 1/2 years. Jim has been very humble and unassuming, and always ready to step up and respond to the needs of St. Regis Parish and Academy. Whether he was fixing a clogged sink, working on the boiler or air conditioning units, cutting trees down or patching a leak in the roof, Jim got it done and was always able to figure out a solu-tion to the problem. Jim thank you for your commitment, hard work, sacrifice and love for the people of St. John Francis Regis. Just know that you have been an invalua-ble member of our team and will truly be missed. In honor of Jim we are going to have a farewell on Fri-day, July 31st from 6-8pm at O’Hara High School park-ing lot. Jim will have his truck there for anyone who wishes to drop off a gift in his flatbed (possibly a cool 6 pack) and if you want to just drive through due to social distancing you can say goodbye from your car. We will gather in the back section of the parking lot near the soc-cer field. Those who wish to stay please bring a lawn chair, a mask and we will practice social distancing. If you know of anybody that may be interested in apply-ing for the Director of Grounds and Maintenance position please contact Colleen Melchior in the parish office at 816-761-1608 or [email protected].

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION WITH CONFESSIONS
Join us for Adoration and Confessions every Wednesday 6:00-7:00pm.
UPDATE ON THE PARKING LOT/ PLAY GROUND CAM-PAIGN We are eight months into our campaign, and we have raised $98,210 so far. WOW! Thanks to your generosity we are almost to the goal of $100,000 for the parking lot phase. Ideally if we can reach the phase one goal in the next 2 months, we could go ahead with the renovation in late summer. With 141 spaces in the parking lot, that is about $730 a space. If you would like to help us meet the goal, by August 1st, consider donating. You can use the yellow envelope that is in your monthly envelope pack-age. The second phase in-cludes updating the play-ground. We are anticipating phase two to be about $50,000. Please contribute generously!

MY HOUSE WORKSHOP FOR MEN This is a 3-day confidential workshop on August 20-22 for men striving to overcome and heal from un-wanted sexual behaviors. It is geared to maximize investment of time and money by providing the equivalent of at least 8 months of individual therapy. For more information or to register contact Michael Ciaccio at 816-786-6063.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE Since we are close to our Parking lot campaign goal, we have scheduled the paving of the parking lot for the end of the month. To cover all of the cost and a little contingency we are about $10,000 away what we need. The schedule is: the milling will take place on July 31st and August 1st and the paving will be done on August 3rd. Those attend Friday morning Mass on the 31st will need to park in the small front lot and enter through the Chapel door. Those attending Mass on Saturday at 3pm will all need to park in the main lot and enter through the double doors.

SCHOOL NEWS Vision By the Grace of God, St. Regis Academy seeks to be a locally recognized leader in graduating young men and women who are spiritually and academically prepared for a lifetime of discipleship. Mission St. Regis Academy in partnership with parents, as the pri-mary educators of their children, seeks to provide a Cath-olic Classical Liberal Arts Education centered on Christ. We seek to cultivate an environment that fosters a stu-dent’s natural desire for Truth, Beauty, and Goodness. St. Regis Academy prepares students to think critically, rea-son logically, articulate clearly, and engage others persua-sively. Our enrollment includes racial, ethnic, and eco-nomic diversity within the Body of Christ, providing a wealth of opportunity for students to grow in virtue by pursuing spiritual, emotional, and academic excellence. Mrs. Hughey’s 3rd Grade Classroom is in need of 4-5 “kitchen” style tables. If you have a table, in good condi-tion, that you might be getting rid of extra or come across a reasonably priced option, please let her know by email-ing [email protected]
