Suspected Canadian pedophile Christopher Paul Neil, who is the subject of an international
manhunt, spent a summer 10 years ago working in Saskatchewan's Qu'Appelle Valley.
Originally from the Vancouver-area community of Maple Ridge, Neil, 32, has been on the run since
Interpol released a photo last week of a man bearing his likeness in connection with the sexualabuse of underage Asian boys in Thailand and Cambodia. The digital images originally were posted
on the Internet.
Officials with the Department of National Defence confirmed Thursday that Neil had been hired by
the Canadian military in the summer of 1997 as a civilian chaplain at HMCS Fort Qu'Appelle.

The ship is a Sea Cadet Training Centre just outside Fort Qu'Appelle, which is about 70 kilometres
northeast of Regina.
"I don't remember the guy at all, not at all,'' said Jay Lowe, who did maintenance work at the same
camp. "Most of the cadet kids who were there as cadets wouldn't have known who he was anyway,
except as 'Sir.' ''
Other people who worked at the camp also said they don't remember the British Columbia man.
DND Lt. Carole Brown confirmed Neil was employed at HMCS Acadia at Shearwater, N.S., during
the summers of 1998 and 1999, as well as at the CFB Greenwood Air Cadet Summer Training
Centre in the summer of 2000. The training camps are open to cadets aged 12 to 18.
"Although Christopher Neil's screening would not have included a police background check, it did
include the letters of reference and a letter of good standing, (an) interview and (a three-day) trainingcourse," she said.
