The women wore dresses and kept their hair close to their head. Fur was in and so were

floral patterns. Makeup was chic and shoulder pads were very important until the late 1930s.The more narrow skirts widen softly below the hip and then stop at mid-calf. Fashion in 1930 was highly influenced by stars of the silver screen. Makeup

emphasizes angularity. In 1930, most every woman owns a close-up mirror to pencil in

well-plucked eyebrows and to apply black mascara and eye shadow. The curling iron was

another fashion necessity.

Fashion in the 1940s was a good mix of comfort and glamour. There were

specific outfits that were meant for specific times of the day. Preferably a pair that matches your outfit. Fur was very popular, as were animal skins. Crocodile purses, wombat collars, lambskin lining, and leather sleeves no animal was off limits. Clothes in the 1940s were very bright and colorful.

The 1920s is the decade in which fashion entered the modern era. It was the decade in which women first abandoned the more restricting fashions of past years and began to wear more comfortable clothes such as short skirts or trousers. The 1920s are characterized by two distinct periods of fashion. Clothing fashions changed with women’s changing roles in society, particularly with the idea of new fashion. The most memorable fashion trend of the “Roaring ‘20s” was undoubtedly “the flapper” look. The flapper dress was functional and flattened the bust line rather than accentuating it. The straight-line chemise topped by the close-fitting cloche hat became the uniform of the day. Women “bobbed”, or cut, their hair short to fit under the popular hats, a radical move in the beginning, but standard by the end of the decade.

The early 1970s fashion scene was very similar to 1969, just a bit more flamboyant. It wouldn’t be hyperbole to say that a fashion revolution occurred in the 1970s.Polyester was the material of choice and bright colors were everywhere. Men and women alike were wearing very tight fitting pants and platform shoes. By 1973, most women were wearing high cut boots and low cut pants.Early 1970s fashion was a fun era. Some of the best clothing produced in the 1970s perfectly blended the mods with the hippies. By the late 1970s the pant suit, leisure suit and track suit was what the average person was sporting. Every woman had a cowl neck sweater in her closet.

The first years after World War II might be regarded by fashion historians as a period of transition, a period of groping after the lines into which fashion would settle for an 8-year or 10-year span. The important thing is that people were beginning to feel a little more freedom when it came to their fashion choices. No longer did people feel like they had to conform to a certain look for certain situations. The year 1950 could be seen as continuing the transition. Fashion remained deliberately fluid, throwing out feelers in all directions. In Paris, too, Dior launched a “vertical line” sheath dresses whose narrow straightness was emphasized by fine pleating or tucking, or by narrow ribbon bands running from neck to hem. Sheath dresses prevailed for day and evening.

The 1960s featured a number of diverse trends. It was a decade that broke many fashion traditions, mirroring social movements during the time. In the middle of the decade, culottes, go-go boots, box-shaped PVC dresses and other PVC clothes were popular. The widely popular bikini came into fashion in 1963 after being featured in the musical Beach Party. False eyelashes were worn by women throughout the 1960s, and their hairstyles were a variety of lengths and styles.Designers were producing clothing more suitable for young adults, which led to an increase in interest and sales.
