Welcome to 2017. The 60th anniversary of the 1957 Chevrolet!!! As you can imagine, this is a very special year for us. The iconic ’57 Chevy was the car we got our start from. In 1976 Art and Dan Danchuk cut a mold for the 1957 Parklight lenses. At the time it was a big gamble because money was tight and even though Art and Dan did all the work themselves they still had to spend money on the steel and take the time to make the mold, both of which were scarce and precious.

Thank goodness, for the industry, and me that the brothers rolled the dice on it because over 40 years later we are now celebrating the 60th anniversary of the cars we have dedicated our entire lives too. It’s been a “ride” well worth all the hard work and risks that have gone into it. If we had to do it all over again we can’t think of much we’d change. It’s been quite the struggle at times competing against all the imported products versus our Made in the United States of America products but, again, we wouldn’t change a thing. This industry is better for it and we are very proud to be able to contribute something like we have.

Thank you for loving these cars and giving companies like ours a job to do. It is solely because of you that these magnificent examples of American ingenuity are as popular, or pos-sibly even more so, as they were back in 1957!

As you might imagine Danchuk sells quite a few Tri-Five Chevy parts to shops all around the world that are building cars for their customers. Occasionally, those shops will share their builds, especially if they are using lots of Danchuk parts. We were pleasantly suprised when we were contacted by Chadly Johnson, the Promotion and Media guy at MetalWorks Classic Auto Restoration in Eugene, Oregon, with an offer to share a build they were working on.

Chadly sent us some sample photos of a really nice build they did for a customer named Shaun Schroeder from Winters, Cali-fornia. This build wasn’t anything flashy, but very, very serious in the performance and handling department. This is the kind of car that brings a permanent smile to the face of anyone who is lucky enough to drive it.

Since this was Shaun’s first classic car, he didn’t really know what he wanted per se. He just knew it had to be a 1955 Chevy. The owner of MetalWorks, Jon Manilla, knew of a dipped 55 sedan sitting around looking for a good home. After a conversation with Jon, Shaun decided he liked what he was hearing and together they came up with a game plan and budget for the build. It was as if the stars had aligned because what MetalWorks delivered blew Shaun away!

Jon’s plan was to deliver a package to Shaun that was the perfect marriage of old and new, classic and modern. Starting with that 55 sedan body MetalWorks proceeded to massage its panels to perfection. Once it was razor straight it was covered in a beautiful combination of orange and white with a dusting of orange pearl just to give it some pop, very classy.

Next they went to work on the chassis. Of course, you don’t build a performance Tri-5 Chevy these days without contacting the good folks at Art Morrison Enterprises. AME sent them the 1000th produced GT Sport Chassis decked out with a 9-inch Ford rear axle, Wilwood brakes with 12.19-inch rotors and 6-Piston Calipers up front, 4-Piston on the rear. Rack and Pinion steer-ing and a bunch of other cool goodies. The frame rolls on Billet Specialties 17-inch and 18-inch “Legacy 2G” wheels running Nitto 235/45 ZR17 & 295/45 ZR/18 tires.

For power, nothing less than a brand new GM Performance Su-percharged LS9 (converted to a wet sump) would be acceptable, giving him 638 horses in a 6.2 liter package…enough to do the job, right? Pair that with a Tremec T56 6-Speed transmission and place these between the frame rails of your AME chassis. Together he’s got what it takes to leave any supercar in the dust, all the way down Interstate 5 to San Francisco.

But you need to be comfortable when hunting supercars, right? Well the guys over at Jon Lind Upholstery of Springfield, Oregon took care of that in short order. The interior of Shaun’s 55 is a beautiful mix of soft, supple leather in a custom design, 8-inch touch screen navigation and electronic dual climate control.

The combination of performance and comfort keeps Shaun and his better half cruising the highways and byways of California, which Shaun does a lot thanks to MetalWorks. Keep an eye out around Winters, California…Shaun is the guy with the permanent smile behind the wheel of an orange and white 55 Chevy.
