"O happy enclosure! O soul completely enclosed, according to the will of its superior, which nothing causes to go straying abroad here and there, but which rests at all times completely submissive to the will of its superiors. There is its only rest! O precious and sure enclosure! To be enclosed by continual remembrance in the precious wounds of Jesus Christ! O happy captives, soaring above the heavens to hear with the ears of the spirit the nine choirs of angels, whose sweet praise and chanting magnifies the Holy and Blessed Trinity, one God in three persons. (Testament of St. Colette)" This paragraph is very poetic and very spiritual. For St. Colette, superiors represent Christ. It is inter-esting that after the submission to the will of superiors she wrote about the wounds of Christ. It is not only in our times that we struggle with authority. It is common for all the times. I think Colette recognized that, in a very human way, by bringing the most human image of Jesus in the Gospels. As children or teenagers it is not easy to see Christ in our parents. As adults we struggle with our spouses, bosses, politicians. Why do we struggle? We struggle with their humanity. We struggle with people's sinfulness. We struggle with our own sinfulness. The wounds of Christ heal the sinfulness of humanity. The wounds are there because of our hu-man imperfections. I would like to thank the Garden Ministry for taking care of our grounds around the Church and the Rectory. I am thankful to Fr. Matthias for his help. Many of us will miss him. We will wait for him to come back to St. Colette Parish next year. The Parish is getting ready to celebrate All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day this week. And, we cannot forget about Halloween. The students of St. Colette School will be dressed as saints.

Pax,

Fr. Michal Lewon Pastor

Nov. 1st – All Saints' Day It is the day when we celebrate the heroes of our faith. The lives of those people who can be exam-ples for us. People to whom we can look up to and desire that one day we can be counted among them. Everyone who is in heaven is a saint. Not all saints are being recognized by the Church. There are many saints who are anonymous. I believe my grandpar-ents are among them.

Nov. 2nd – All Souls' Day On this day we recognize that not all those who died can be called saints. We know their weaknesses and we try to help them. How do we do this? By praying for them, thinking about them and loving them. This is the best spiritual medicine we can give to those who struggle on the other side of life. But, at the same time, we can do the same for those who are still on this side.

Nov. 3rd – St. Martin de Porres d. 1639 He is the Patron Saint of mixed races, barbers, public health workers, and innkeepers. St. Martin experienced discrimination because he was born of mixed race parents and outside of marriage. He found his consolation in God. God was the one who would accept him with-out any conditions. He became a Dominican lay brother and took care of the sick and the needy.

Nov. 4th – St. Charles Borromeo d. 1584 He is the Patron Saint of bishops, catechists, cardinals, seminarians, and spiritual leaders. He was one of the most responsible and faith filled Cardinals during his time. He was an adviser to the pope, lived in his diocese, es-tablished the seminary system there and visit-ed parishes and religious institutions. He challenged the way priests lived their lives and he himself chose to live in simplicity even though he was born into an aristocratic Italian family.

"¡Oh recinto feliz!

Blood Drive OUR BLOOD DONORS CONTINUE TO AMAZE US! Despite the cool rainy weather and a somewhat slow start to the October 22 Blood Drive, we ended on a very high note! Our goal was to have 30 donors based on advance calls and appointments. After an inspirational message at the 12:00 PM Mass from our new LifeSource representative, Gabriela, we were delighted and astounded when about 20 donors ar-rived, including a number of first time donors. One young man just turned 16, making him eligible to donate for the first time, which he had waited 2 years to do. He has also promised to assist us with future Blood Drives. In fact, we would welcome as-sistance in running the Blood Drive from any volun-teers, even if only for an hour or two. We exceeded our goal and collected 41 pints of lifesaving blood, each of which can save up to three lives. Many do-nors also promised to donate directly at LifeSource and credit St. Colette. See our code below to do so. IMPORTANT: Blood Donors, don’t forget to contact LifeSource at 1-877-543-3768 and select the choles-terol option to obtain your free cholesterol screening results – another great benefit of donating blood. You can also obtain this information online at www.lifesource.org under the “Wellness” section. We do not yet have a firm date for the next Blood Drive in April, 2018. Watch for the announcement in early 2018. In the meantime, if you donate directly at LifeSource, you can credit St. Colette by mentioning our sponsor code RM10. We value all of the donors who do so regularly. Thanks again for your continued support.

Notes from the Music Director

As some of you may know, my wife Elizabeth and I are expecting our 3rd child the first week in November. I will be taking parental leave during this time to help support my wife and be with our children during this time. We are very grateful to the Archdiocese of Chica-go for including this helpful family benefit to Archdio-cese employees this year. Thank you for all your pray-ers and support. During my leave, my accompanist Paula Gliot will be overseeing the English adult choir. All of the music has been prepared in advance for November – January and I will be returning during Winter Ordinary time in mid-late January. Please feel free to join us during rehears-als leading up to Christmas. We’ve already begun re-hearsals for the holiday season and could use more tal-ented voices and instruments to join us! If you have any questions you can email me at [email protected] or call me at the parish house at 847-394-8100 Ext. 103. If I have already left for parental leave, you may contact Paula Gliot after any of the weekend masses for more details on rehearsals/music.

God bless you all, Michael Myers

A Note to our Teen Parents from FOCUS Youth Ministry.....

As your teen prepares for the beautiful Sacrament of Confirmation, let us be reminded that this Sacrament affirms our identity as children of God; unites us more firmly to Christ; increases in us the Gifts of the Holy Spir-it; strengthens our bond with the Church; strengthens us to spread and defend the Faith by what we say and how we act. (CCC 1303). Parents please partner with us to prepare your child for Confirmation and to form him/her in the faith. Help us by modeling your practice of faith and through the practice of prayer. Hint: Start off simply by taking time to share your Confirmation experience and memo-ries with your teen. Let us together share our faith with one another to be the light of Christ!

Welcome to Online Giving!

Introducing...GiveCentral!

St. Colette Parish has begun accepting online donations through GiveCentral, our new online

donation service. GiveCentral is a safe, secure, and paperless way to make your Sunday offertory and

other contributions.

It was designed specifically for Catholic churches and schools in the Chicago area, and many other par-ishes in our Diocese have already found success with

it. The site allows you to make a one time or auto-matically repeating payments on a schedule that

works best for you, using any credit card, debit card or electronic bank account.

We believe that having a flexible online giving option will make it easier for many of you

to support St. Colette. Visit our website at www.stcolette.org and click on

the “GiveCentral” link or go to www.GiveCentral.org

and take a couple minutes to set up your donations. Questions? Please call the Parish Office

at 847-394-8100.

que necesitan sus oraciones.

Mission Statement We, the faith community of St. Colette, in proclaiming the truth of the Gospel are committed to follow Jesus Christ by being ”the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world”. By our Baptism we are called to serve people of all cultures, migrants, and those who have no voice of their own; our born and unborn children; victims of violence, and the impoverished. Empowered by the Holy Spirit and nurtured by the Eu-charist, we are led to promote human dignity and justice for all people. We believe that this is the way the Lord is calling us to be a sign of His kingdom in this time and place.
