"O how precious is the sepulchre of Jesus; that tomb visited by so many out of devotion! O how precious is that sepulchre ‐ your enclosure ‐ into which devout souls enter to obtain their salvation. From the depths of that tomb, these souls take flight, with the help of the three vows already mentioned, soaring to the great celestial pal‐ace without difficulty, or hardly any, and without danger, having carried out all the works required in accordance with the call they have received from God, How much comfort, delight and aid, should these fellow captives feel when a new bride enters into the noble realm of the Bridegroom she has loved and desired. Such is the abundance and su‐perabundance at the table of this blissful marriage feast, that when a tiny part of the great and immeasurable joy and bounty of the noble King and Spouse falls from it, it cannot but delight the poor captives, whom sin still keeps from entering into this noble wedding feast.  (Testament of St. Colette)    St. Colette emphasized that the monastic life helps an individual to live the heavenly life here on earth. Christians should never feel too comfortable in this world. We do not belong to this world. We belong to heaven. Through the history of Christianity there were many movements from the city and business of life to the desert, to solitude, to a hermitage or monastery. Many famous saints experienced that: St. Basil, St. Francis, St. Ignatius, etc. At times some of us might be called to go into the desert. This doesn't mean Arizona. But it does mean simplicity and solitude. Working with the youth, one thing I learned is that they enjoy quietness. Such a simple thing . But how meaningful it is. I believe that it will become even more important in the near future. The roof over the school is in very bad shape. Together with the Maintenance Committee, the Pastoral Council, the Finance Council, and the Archdioce‐san General Contractors, we have been looking into ways as to how to go about fixing it. It will have to be some combination of funds from To Teach Who Christ Is, Parish collections and perhaps some grants from the Archdio‐cese. But the third one is not for sure.

Pax,

Fr. Michal Lewon Pastor

Pax,

Prayer Warriors Save the Date!

100th Anniversary Public Rosary Crusade

Join us on Saturday October 14th, 2017

At 12:00PM

In “The Secret of the Rosary”, St. Louis de Montfort said: “Public prayer is far more powerful than private prayer to appease the anger of God and call down His mercy, and Holy Mother Church , guided by the Holy Ghost, has always advocated public prayer in times of public tragedy and suffering.”

We will gather at the Bell Tower on Kirchhoff Road at 12:00PM to pray the rosary.

If you have any questions please contact Ida Vardon (847) 322-2649

Page 8: Reflection

Eucharistic Adoration Eucharistic Adoration On the first Friday of each month at St. Colette Parish we have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. In solidarity together let us visit the Lord in the Eucharist to love and adore Him. Starting in October, Adoration begins after 800 a.m. Mass in the Church and ends with Rosary, Benediction, and 9:00 p.m. Mass in Spanish in Church. This year is the Year of the 100th Anniversary of the Fatima Apparitions. The Fifth Apparition of Our Lady took place On September 13, 1917. About 30,000 people had gathered at the Cova to pray the Rosary with the children. Soon, the Lady appeared: she told the children. “I want you to come here on October 13th and continue to recite the Rosary to obtain the end of the war. In October, the Lord, the sorrowful Lady, Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Joseph with the Child Jesus will also come to bless the world. God is pleased with your sacrifices.” In the Cova in October 1917 the Sixth and last Apparition of Our Lady took place. There were 70,000 people gathered with the children. They stood in a torrential driving rain. The Lady answered questions with this reply: “I am the Lady of the Rosary; I desire a chapel to be built here in my honor, and that people continue to pray the Rosary. The war will end and soldiers will soon re‐turn to their homes.” Then the Lady opened her hands, guiding light toward the sun and the promised miracle began to unfold. It stopped raining, the sun was bright and began to turn, projecting different bands of color across the sky. Suddenly it moved out from the sky as though to fall into the crowd. Everyone was frightened beyond words, people fell to their knees and begged for mercy. They saw Mary and as Our Lady promised, visions of our Mother of Sorrows, St. Joseph with the Child Jesus, and the Lord. We have been asked by Mary to pray and to make sacrifices for sinners. We must also pray for our priests. We must pray for good and holy priests. We can offer our daily rosary, go to Mass and Holy Communion once a week for priests. This is a great benefit to the Church. At Fatima, Our Lady came to teach mankind once again the way to peace and salvation. Hers was a message of faith, conversion and prayer, but also of sacrifice. As we go to Adoration, let us take a moment to remember the Apparitions at Fatima. We focus on and rediscover the meaning of these mes‐sages and how relevant they are for us today. We can rely on her direction. Let us be at peace knowing we have the assurance of our Blessed Mother that she is guiding us to her Son. Immaculate Heart of Mary pray for us who have recourse to thee. Oh come let us Adore Him. Whether we receive Holy Communion in the hand or on the tongue, something extraordinary happens. Jesus touches us, and we touch Jesus. In and through the sacramental sign, the divine, healing, and loving touch of Jesus takes hold of us It is like the intimate embrace of a mother and child or of two spouses who deeply love each other – but even more so. When Jesus touches us and we reach out to touch him, our contact with Him changes us entirely. We know ourselves as loved, healed, and united with him, and one another. His touch is our healing and communion.” When we come to Eucharistic Adoration we come to adore our Lord Jesus Christ. He is present and we can again com‐municate, adore, love and feel his deep love and presence in our life. When God finds a soul living in intense faith, He pours out His grace in abundance. Everyone is welcome to Eucharistic Adoration, bring your children, your parents, your friends.

Become a Lector-Proclaim God's Word Understanding the role of Lector is important for all who are active or considering becoming a lector. The ministry is just that—a ministry. “It is an Order that belongs to praying and worshipping of the People of God, the Church.” Lectors are lay people delegated to serve. It is a calling to “build up the Body of Christ” (St. Paul). In a sense lectors assist the priests in presenting the Word to all who worship. It is a privilege of the highest calling. Training can be accomplished in one or two sessions with the coordi-nator, Donnie Shirmer. Phone: 847-322-3502 This number can also be used to text. E-mail:[email protected]

RCIA Classes begin on September 24th 9:00am Mass and the class following the Mass. There is still time to join. Brian Lovitsch, the Coordinator of this program, can be reached at (224) 305 2845. Father Michal can also help with discernment for those considering joining the faith and can be reached at the Parish House.

For anyone above the age of reason (normally, seven years of age) and particularly adults, the way to become a Catholic is through a process called The Rite of Christian of Adults (RCIA). RCIA is for both  unbaptized persons and for baptized Christians who wish now to live their baptismal life in the tradition of the Catholic Church.     We ask parishioners to, first and foremost, pray for those considering in joining and for an increase of people completing their initiation in our faith. We also ask that you take a look at the people in your life (family, friends, neighbors) and invite them to the parish and to discern joining the Body of Christ. We are called to be missionary disciples by Pope Francis and therefore, we must try to encourage others to experience the love of Christ that draws us to follow Him and His church.

donation service. GiveCentral is a safe, secure, and paperless way to make your Sunday offertory and

other contributions.

It was designed specifically for Catholic churches and schools in the Chicago area, and many other par-ishes in our Diocese have already found success with

it. The site allows you to make a one time or auto-matically repeating payments on a schedule that

works best for you, using any credit card, debit card or electronic bank account.

We believe that having a flexible online giving option will make it easier for many of you

to support St. Colette. Visit our website at www.stcolette.org and click on

the “GiveCentral” link or go to www.GiveCentral.org

and take a couple minutes to set up your donations. Questions? Please call the Parish Office

at 847-394-8100.

Mission Statement We, the faith community of St. Colette, in proclaiming the truth of the Gospel are committed to follow Jesus Christ by being ”the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world”. By our Baptism we are called to serve people of all cultures, migrants, and those who have no voice of their own; our born and unborn children; victims of violence, and the impoverished. Empowered by the Holy Spirit and nurtured by the Eu-charist, we are led to promote human dignity and justice for all people. We believe that this is the way the Lord is calling us to be a sign of His kingdom in this time and place.
