chools re listed by county; and, within each county, by

municoal district, town or city.

included as apoendices are:

- — a list of schools having purils enrolled in senior high

school grades;3 — a list of regional vocational schools;

O — a list of locally—appointed supervisory personnel;

D — a list of local school authorities and their secretaries;

E — an alphabetical index of schools;

P — a list of divisional inspectors and supervisors of

schools.

Schools within municipal districts are arranged so as to show as

nearly as possible their grouping as instructional units. In

each system, sub—system or group of schools, the high school is

listed first, followed by its feeder schools. To find the

putative destinations of pupils attending elementary schools,

read up except where otherwise instructed.

There is much local variation, however, in keeping with the

increasing flexibility of the comprehensive school system.

Different pupils of the same elementary school may proceed,

according to their requirements, to several secondary schools3

for example, about two—thirds of the graduates of Somerset and

District Elementary School proceed to Central Kings ral High

3chool, about one—third to Western Kings District High School,

and a number from these groups may later transfer to Kings

Regional Vocational School at Kentville. Similarly, certain

elementary schools in some municipal districts ‘feed’ secondary

schools other than regional high schools in other municipal

istricts or in towns; e.g., Oakdene (p. 4), Springiield (p. 4),

Christmas Island (p. 8), Cannon Road (p. s), Stewiacke (p. 14),

Havelock (p. is), Tancook (p. 40), Lower Argyle (p. 50).

Indentation is used to indicate (a) a school located in the section

named above it; or (b) a school whose pupils proceed to the second—

.ar’j school named above it. Double indentation is used occasionally

to indicate an elementary school which ‘feeds’ another elementary

school which in turn ‘feeds’ a secondary schol0

schools in cities, towns or large village sections are listed

usually in alphabetical order.

Approximate enrolments are given as of September 30, 1967. The

number of pupils enrolled, and the number of teachers employed, may

vary appreciably throughout the school year. The statistics in this

Directory may therefore not tally exactly with the statistics in the

Annual Report of the Department of Education for the corresponding

school year, or in other directories0 The figures in this Directory

are not to be taken as official for statistical purposes.
