AdministrationThis past year President Dale Lar

sen, along with his wife Raylene, has been on the go all over the United States promoting good will toward York College. They have gained some new supporters and strengthened the present staunch ones. In his absence, Vice-President Joe Alley has stepped into the position as Acting President. Both men have done admirably with their talents in their new environments.

Dr. and Mrs. Dale Larsen stand in front o f their “home on wheels” for this year. They “ touched base” - a s Dr. Larsen puts i t—several times.

InitiationClub initiation started early on

the tennis courts with calisthenics. The boys were singing about

being raindrops and kangaroos. They were sitting on buckets trying to lay eggs and shooting down airplanes. They passionately kissed trees and light posts.

The girls were throwing temper tantrums and flirting with guys so they could fill up their date books.

They look back now and laugh at all the humiliating things they had to do and realize that they love everyone anyway.

Someone tell Kyodai John and Randy and Delta Ellen and Deb only hens lay eggs.

While the Inter Club Council is not a legislative group, its work of co-ordinating the numerous club activities is vital. ICC provides a cohesion for the clubs and offers a means o f expression for all. The membership o f the council is composed o f the ten social club presidents.

SPOKESMANThe SPOKESMAN Staff has re

ally kept YC informed about current events on campus as well as York, Nebraska, and the world. Many times they have predicted campus attractions along with informing the public about things

which they should be concerned. This class in publications has been learning the many “ins” and “outs” of a newspaper. We commend the SPOKESMAN Staff for their bluntness and refreshing appeal.

“Is this your life, Mike Lewis?” ask SPOKESMAN Staff Jeff Nading, Dee Mills, Kathy Burr, Dave Magnet, Larry Nossaman, Dave Nossaman, Jerry Cappel, Bill Moore, Stan Gray, and Tom Kinney.

The golden age o f comedy reached its zenith during a fabulous and glorious era known as Vaudeville . . . Fanny Brice, W.C. Fields, Eddie Cantor, Ed Wynn,Will Rogers and a host o f other greats fill its Hall o f Fame . . . There are two other names that belong on this list, but they can never be listed separately.. . They are more than a team. . . They are two comic shining lights that beam as one. . . For Lewis without Clark is like laughter without joy. . . When these two greats retired, a comic style disappeared from the American scene that will never see its like again.. . York College has always had an intercollegiate athletic team o f men. However, a new trend has been set. This year for the first time YC has an intercollegiate team for women. Their medium is volleyball. This YC volleyball team is to be commended for their sportsmanship especially as a first year team.

Volleyball

Something raises the eyebrows of YC’s first volleyball team: Judy Trapp, Jaym a White, Joyce White, Mike Lewis,Helen Ford and Mike Lewis. Eloise Harris, Cheryl Alcorn, Helen Ford, Deb Armstrong, Pam Eckstein, Colette

Always a popular sport in intram urals is flag football. Excitem ent is generated by b o th the cheering crowd and team mates.

Lisa and Greg won m ixed doubles horseshoes playing “ 21 or bust” .

Two of the new activities for this year were the rope jumping and “u p ” contests. Women winners: Sue, Judy, Marie and Nan.

The wom en’s cross-country race is a one-mile endurance test. Take your tim e, b u t hurry! One, tw o, three, *BANG*.

In the lead, Terez Pem berton sprints for the tape and wins.

84

Page 87: 1976 crusader

Intramurals“To be able to fill leisure time intelligently” seemed to be the objective for

the intramural program this year. Intramural Director Steve Sikes fulfilled this objective by remodeling the old program and adding zest to it. Thus, more students participated in varied areas than ever before.

The program was expanded to include individual, sports skills, and co-ed activities in addition to the traditional team activities. It was so “designed to give ALL students an opportunity to participate in a variety o f recreational activities” .

Trophies were awarded to the winners in individual feats and to all the winning teammates. Points were given for participation and placing in an event or sport. At the end o f the year, the three highest point accumulators in men’s and women’s activities were awarded letter jackets and sweaters, respectively.

Jayma W hite m astered the Ping- Pong tournam ent.

Intramurals didn’t stop when the weather got bad, it w ent inside. Volleyball was a favorite indoor sport for the men.

RAsWhat are Resident Assistants?

They arc sincere individuals who want to help students find answers to their questions, but RAs also want to share in laughter, pranks, and the love they have found In Christ Jesus.

Each one is a dependable, responsible, and Christ-like individual. They work hard to create and strengthen cohesion between the faculty and students.

Deans Jo Kite and Roger Hawley plan activities to strengthen the bond between the RAs. These outings provide opportunities to increase their knowledge, and help solve some o f their problems together. Also, the RAs attend weekly classes to help them to better understand people so that they can continue to give their best services. Who’s Who

inAmerican

JuniorColleges

Each year on the collegiate scene there are students who distinguish themselves among their peers in exemplary ways. To be included in WHO’S WHO students must exemplify academic excellence, leadership abilities, and service to the community. At York College the Christian service dimension rounds out the picture.

In presenting our WHO’S WHO students this year we have taken a little different approach. We have presented part of the real-life social situation at York, showing how the dating scene moves from the ritzy to a cheapie. At the beginning of the year sophomore guys often try to impress the girls as being big spenders. By the end o f the year it’s a different scene.

York Transfers Enjoy LCCLeaving the closeness o f York College at first may

present doubts to a transfer student. But juniors at Lubbock Christian College quickly discover that they’ve actually entered a new kind o f closeness—one generated by a Christian institution of higher learning like LCC.

“The personal contact between student and instructor, which we grew accustomed to at York, is continued at LCC. We’ve found that LCC teachers are concerned with all our needs—academic, social and spiritual—and

they are willing to help us with any problem.”Besides the personal attention, there are some ob

vious academic advantages. LCC is fully accredited by the Southern Association o f Colleges, offering degrees in 16 fields.

If you’re having a difficult time deciding where to continue your college education, just write to us or come visit the campus at Lubbock. We’ll be glad to show you how good we have it!

HANDLE WITH CARE! This looks like an ordinary yearbook, but do not be deceived. It is a creation. It is what YOU made o f York College. My friends and I only collected some o f the memories you strew around carelessly.

Some were beautiful dewy creatures o f hilarity, peace, excitement, friendship-moments you always want to remember and cherish. We also collected some horribly mangled creatures-ones you tried to abandon and forget-heartache, rejection, humiliation and the loneliness when no one seemed to take time to listen, to understand, to love you. They are creatures o f yours. Whatever they are, you cannot change them. They are permanent. You can only create new ones.

Kay and I have tried terribly hard to collect memories that are representative o f this year. Sometimes we were patient with each other. Many times we were not. As pressures mounted, we tangled ourselves in each other’s nerves. Often, we wanted to annihilate anything faintly resembling a yearbook. Now much o f those memories are fading in the exultation o f this final deadline’s completion. Maybe, som e day I shall be glad we passed that way.

However, some o f you will still not be satisfied with litis yearbook. I didn’t think you would. You who appreciate the results, even if you-didn’t know what exactly went in the preparation, we did it for you.

Remember: Handle this 1976 CRUSADER with care. It is not only-a yearbook but a year o f your life in the way you molded it.

Harken to this past year and when you mold your life today you can mold it the way you want, but to be perfectly molded takes a more skilled pair o f hands than yours. Put your hand into the Father’s Hand and He will perfect you above precious gold.My prayer is that you grab hold and never let go!
