“HAPPY ANNIVEEEERRRRRRRRSARY CAMPERS!”

In the last twenty years of Camp Odyssey, we’ve had more Zany Camp Openings, magical moments, mud pits, theme days, and memories to last a lifetime than we can hardly remember! The fun, learning, and zaniness never stop here, especially not in the big 20TH anniversary summer!

Since opening in 1990, Camp Odyssey@The Salisbury School has become the Lower Shore’s premiere and only independent American Camp Association accredited summer camp, serving a diverse community of campers. We offer a wide range of programs and options that you can read in brief through this catalog and more in-depth on the Camp Odyssey Website.

We know that many families must make some tough decisions this year when it comes to affording a summer program for their children. That’s why this summer we are offering 4 Super Value Packages that provide a 20% discount when you sign up for a minimum of two weeks of the same package. Please see page 5 and see what is included in each package.

We truly offer something to excite every child. Our team of caring adults (trained to meet the high-quality standards of the ACA) are youth development experts who know how to provide hours-upon-hours of fun, engaging, and challenging activities in a safe and nurturing environment - where a kid can just be a kid. Register by April 30th and receive 10% off all programs or select one of our Super Value Packages and receive 20% off! Our website, www.campodyssey.org, offers much more information and online registration.

Questions? Please call Camp Registrar extraordinaire Donna Haag, or me at, 410/742-4464 ext. 320.

Best Regards,

Harlan “Dr. Z” Eagle, Ed.D

In 1990, Harlan Eagle brought a lifelong love of camp to The Salisbury School and helped transform a half-day, four week enrichment program into the first private, full-day camp on the Lower Shore. Under his leadership the camp has achieved ACA Accreditation, expanded its offerings, created The Odyssey Academy and helped bring the Horizons National Program (for children from economically disadvantaged families) to Salisbury.

Harlan, also known as “Dr. Z” (for “zany”) to the kids, holds a doctorate in Education from the University of Maryland and has worked in the field of education for 25 years. In 2005 he received the Association for Experiential Education’s “Outstanding Educator of the Year” award.

WELCOME TO CAMP ODYSSEY

Both Horizons and Camp Odyssey are part of The Salisbury School. The Salisbury School is an independent pk-12 school. The beautiful facilities and surrounding campus includes 3 unique school buildings, two wooded playground areas, a state-of-the-art climbing

Why is ACA Accreditation important? When you send your child to an American Camp Association accredited camp, you know that the camp is committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment. Accreditation takes into account staff training, physical setting, programming – every aspect of running a camp – and only the best get the ACA stamp of approval. Look for ACA accreditation no matter what camps you are considering. Your children deserve it!

Scholarships are available based on need. Please call Donna Haag at the Camp Odyssey office (410/742-4464, ext. 320) for an application and guidelines.

Code of Conduct: Camp Odyssey is about fun, friendship and respect for others. Each Camper and Parent is asked to sign a Code of Conduct explaining the camp philosophy and how disputes and issues are managed by the staff. For more information, please go online to campodyssey.org/parents.

WE MAKE EVERY MINUTE COUNTA TYPICALLY UNTYPICAL DAY

MEMORIES TO LAST A LIFETIMEJoin us on an extraordinary journey – 8 weeks of exciting themed days, trips and events designed to captivate kids entering Pre-K to 8th grade. Campers explore programs geared to their specific ages at the only independent American Camp Association accredited camp in the region (see ACA info on page 2). We offer three Day Camp programs based on grade level and ability. Each and every day has a theme that is celebrated camp-wide through a variety of engaging experiences. Nothing is typical about Camp Odyssey. Be sure to check out the complete calendar of our activities and themes (see page 6-7).

SETTING SAIL (PRE-K & K)This program, integrated into Day Camp, is specially designed for our youngest campers (Pre-K and Kindergarten.) They join the “big kids” at Opening and get plenty of the studio time they love – and they also have special, age-appropriate activities, experiences and breaks to suit their needs. A staff of caring counselors and qualified teachers is led by certified educator and veteran counselor Ronna Bievenour. Week of June 21, 28, July 12, 19, 26, and August 2 = $175/week, Week of July 6= $140/week and Week of August 9 = $158/week.

LEGENDARY DAY CAMP EXPERIENCE (GRADES 1-6)Our core program for kids who just want to be kids! Groups include “One Fish” & “Two Fish” (grades 1-2), “Red Fish” & “Blue Fish” (grades 3-4), and “Marlins” & “Dolphins” (grades 5-6). Our 5:1 camper to counselor ratio provides excellent supervision with lots of individual attention. Our experienced group leaders and specialist counselors - under the guidance of veteran Day Camp Directors and educators “Sloppy Joe” Hastings, Barb Farrell, & Audra Phippin - plan and implement the zany, imaginative, and fun activities for which we are known. In addition to Opening, Closing, theme events, free play and trips, campers experience five studios a day (on a rotating schedule) including: Art, Theatre, Outdoor Adventure, Sports, Video, Tech Lab, Dance, and Wacky Science. Visit our website for more details on studios and daily events. Weeks June 21, 28, July 12, 19, 26, and August 2 =$175/week, Week of July 6 =$140/week, and August 9 =$158/week.

All of our Academy courses fall into four categories of learning that all kids need to experience:

Academics: We offer a wide variety of courses designed to get an extra jump on the school year, prepare for college, or simply explore an interest in scholastic achievement.

Athletics: The goal of our sports camps is for each camper to have a fun and exciting experience while building valuable athletic skills. Seasoned coaches and instructors will guide your child to be better athletes in an environment that fosters teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Arts: Take a course to better learn or practice a performing art. These camps are a way for your campers to have fun and explore their creativity under the guidance of trained teachers and experts in the arts.

Adventures: If you have the heart of an adventurer, we’ve got a tall list for you to tackle! Under the guidance and safety of experienced leaders and educators, we have a variety of different adventures, including camping, fishing, exploring, and more.

All Academy courses are led by experienced staff who love teaching and sharing. Pick the programs that speak to your interests and register on our website (www.campodyssey.org). The same Camp Odyssey discount applies for Odyssey Academy programs for early registration (10% off by April 30th), or consider two weeks of The Odyssey Academy with Super Value Package 4 for 20% off (details on page 5).

EXTRAORDINARY EXPERIENCESThe Odyssey Academy provides a different focus for a camper’s summer. Whether looking ahead to the school year or exploring a personal interest (or both!), the Odyssey Academy allows for more focused learning about specific subjects. Whether you want to solve a mystery, practice a sport, prep for an upcoming high school course, or train for your first 5K, every day is special at the Academy.

REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS

REFUND POLICYAfter June 1, 2010, no refund will be made because of withdrawal, suspension or absence from camp. Payments lost due to the above cannot be applied to the next year’s program or a sibling. Campers may add additional programs at any time with full payment of fees received by the Thursday prior to program beginning. Substitutions or changes must be made before the first day of any program. Changes in programs once a program has started will require a $5 processing fee.

PROGRAM CANCELLATION POLICYOccasionally insufficient registration means that we may have to cancel a program or session. We will make every effort to enroll your camper in a similar program or give you the opportunity to select a substitute. If we cannot offer an acceptable substitute, the fees for that program will be fully refunded.
