One Year Later . . . .

• Change (modernization) is usually incremental.

• Carly wasn’t yet 1 year old when Secretary Riley charged us all to: “design, integrate, and develop a world-class comprehensive student financial aid delivery system using state-of-the-art information technology.”

• Last month we celebrated Carly’s 5th birthday.

• The Modernization Blueprint will implement the Project EASI vision (see easi.ed.gov for both).

• There’s lots for all of us, not just ED, to do to modernize our respective portions of the delivery system, but let’s work together for Carly’s sake.

• Implemented integrated imaging and workflow system that includes inputs from paper, fax, and e-mail accessible from all office locations.

• NYU designated by ED as one of several sites for a Distance Education Demonstration.

• Campus Pipeline discussions.

• NY Mentor—with PINs for electronic identification.

• FAFSA on the Web—no other forms. (Last year 28% of 47,000 FAFSAs. This year expect 33%).

• FastWEB.com

• Multi-Year Note.

• Support ED to modernize “on time” or sooner.

• Plan school systems with software vendors to do non-ED portion of Modernization.

• Get web enabled.

• Think from client’s (Carly’s) perspective.

• Think global.

• Support the Clearinghouse—for all students’ enrollment verification.

How will we get there?
