Standard5.NG.4.a. Interpret product (a/b) x q as a part of a partition of q into b equal parts; equivalently, as a result of a sequence of operations a x q/b. In general, (a /b) x (c /d)=ac/bd.

Directions:1. Listen to the leader read the task sheet.2. As a group, review the “Defining Terminology” sheet.3. Each player needs a rack to hold their 9 tiles.4. Draw 9 tiles from the bag.5. The first player to start is the player in the northeast
corner of their table. Play continues in a clockwise rotation.
6. Equations can only have ONE equal symbol and MUST be made either horizontally or vertically.
7. A player earns points for each value in the bottom right hand corner of the tile times the 2E or 3E, 3S or 3S value on the board for each tile that lands on this symbol (example: +1 x 2E=2 points).
8. Remember to keep your score by writing your equation on the score sheet along with the points you earned during your turn.
9. The player with the highest score at the end of the rotation wins.

How Do Roots Grow?
StandardsSC 5.1.1 Recognize and describe that results of similar scientific investigations may turn out differently because of inconsistencies in the methods, materials, and observations.SC 5.2.7 Follow step-by-step instructions.

Prediction:Make a prediction about the direction you think the roots will grow. Draw a diagram on the opposite page.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Observe: Complete the chart below as you observe your seed. In what direction were the roots growing on each day?
Hypothesis:Do roots always grow “down” no matter how you plant a seed?

Garden Checklist
1. Listen to the leader read the task sheet.2. Gather your materials. 3. Glue the “My Garden Checklist” into your Journal of Knowledge on the
next available page (see sample).4. Add “My Garden Checklist” to your Table of Contents in your Journal-
number it accordingly.5. With your group, inventory the garden supplies on your list. 6. Items that are still needed should be researched using the Gardener’s
Supply Company catalog and/or the links on this week’s rotation sheet.7. Add the items you feel we still “need.” (Remember, needs are different
from wants!).8. Return all materials to their appropriate containers when the rotation
ends.

Language Arts 5.2.1 Use the features of informational texts, such as formats, graphics, diagrams, illustrations, charts, maps, and organization, to find information and support understanding. Science 5.4.3 Observe and explain that some organisms are made of a collection of similar cells that benefit from cooperating. Science 5.4.7 Explain that living things, such as plants and animals, differ in their characteristics, and that sometimes these differences can give members of these groups (plants and animals) an advantage in surviving and reproducing.

1. Listen to manager read this task list before beginning.2. Using your notes and measurements from the visit to the kitchen
garden, draw out the entire area inside the brick fence on graph paper.
3. In the design you must include the measurements of each flower bed and garden spot.
Extension Activity: Using all information about this project, begin working on research of different types of plants and shrubs that you think would me good to put in the Irwin Garden outdoor kitchen. You could also use these links to help design the area.http://www.gardeners.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-Gardeners-Site/default/Page-KGPJShttp://www.smallblueprinter.com/garden/planner.html
