Cosmic Ray Test Preparations

The cosmic ray test was initially planned to be held in R12, but this proved to be difficult due to space constraints.

We have now been given some space in R8 which we have until the end of January.

Work at RAL currently to sort out: Mains and 3 phase power Water supply for compressors Network Safety interlock systems for the tracker readout etc

Work at Fermilab to prepare and test the complete tracker 1 readout for shipping to RAL.

CKOVa is already at RAL. The DAQ is already at RAL (but needs to be moved to

R8). No sign of the TOF so far.

Support System and Dark Room

Support system has been designed initially by Geoff and Craig and sent to MiniTec for final design and construction.

Special parts for the pivot, wheel and clamp mechanisms were quoted with over a month to be delivered, so they are being made at Imperial.

A tent has been identified that is the right size and has material which has been tested to exclude the dangerous UV light (testing at Brunel by Henry).

Services

240V, 3 phase, network and phone have been “promised” by Friday 9th November.

Chilled water pipe work is to be contracted out and should be installed next week and also in place by 9th November.

Request has been made (a week ago) to DAQ group to get someone to come to RAL to move the DAQ from R12 to R8. If this is not possible Craig will do it.

James Leaver is setting up a smoke detector interlock system for the QA rig at Imperial and once this is complete it will be duplicated at RAL for the R8 test.

Desks & chairs will be taken from R12.

Detectors

CKOVa is already at RAL (has been so for some time now).

Tracker 1 is being built now (station QA and assembly ongoing over the coming two weeks).

Tracker 1 readout system is being completed and tested at Fermilab this week (may run into the early part of next week).

KL had to be removed from the plan due to its size. No news yet from TOF group as to ETA for delivery of

TOF0 and/or TOF1 at RAL. Cosmic ray test will proceed with Tracker, CKOV and

D1 and D2 scintillators until TOFs can be integrated into the system.

Summary

Schedule has slipped a little, but everyone is working very hard to minimise this.

Still aiming for integration of detectors and DAQ in the middle of November and start data taking ASAP after that.

Software will still require a lot of work (mainly on the raw data side), so this will be a great opportunity for people to get involved with some real data to analyse!
