Page 6: 1º ESO UNIT 9 PRESENT PERFECT I’ve gone to VS I’ve been to Present Perfect VS Past Simple

I’ve travelled all around the world

• We don’t say exactly when the action happened

She has bought a new house

Since the day I was born till now

We don’t know when she did it but she has a new house

Page 7: 1º ESO UNIT 9 PRESENT PERFECT I’ve gone to VS I’ve been to Present Perfect VS Past Simple

I have written three books during my life

What does it means? It means that since the day I was born,

till now I have three books written by me. These are my three books, they are cooking books

“Cake cats”“Dinner with cats”“Cats and dogs, what is tastier?”

Page 8: 1º ESO UNIT 9 PRESENT PERFECT I’ve gone to VS I’ve been to Present Perfect VS Past Simple

Now you know that I have written three booksI wrote the first one in 1998

“Cake cats”I wrote the second one in 2001

“Dinner with cats” I wrote the last one in 2007

“Cats and dogs, what is tastier?”

So, when I want to specify the specific time in the past I use the PAST SIMPLE

Page 9: 1º ESO UNIT 9 PRESENT PERFECT I’ve gone to VS I’ve been to Present Perfect VS Past Simple

• PAST TIME is used with adverbs of time and time expressions, as for example

– Yesterday– Last month / week / year / …– In 1998 / 2009 / 2013…– One hour AGO– When I was twelve …

Page 10: 1º ESO UNIT 9 PRESENT PERFECT I’ve gone to VS I’ve been to Present Perfect VS Past Simple

• PRESENT PERFECT is used to talk about actions in the past, in general, without specifyng the time. Sometimes you can use some adverbs, such as ….– EVER / NEVER– RECENTLY – LATELY …

Sometimes TODAY / THIS WEEK / THIS MONTH are used to indicate an unfinished time period I have come back from London today
