Salary This is a voluntary position and as such we are unable to provide remuneration for this role.Length of contract 1 day a week (flexible dependent on availability) for an initial period of 12 weeks.MAIN PURPOSE OF POST
This exciting volunteering opportunity will support Women’s Aid’s busy and dynamic Campaigns and Public Affairs team. The purpose of the post will be to support our campaigns, policy and public affairs work - including the Women’s Aid Campaign Champions Network of grass-roots campaigners and assisting the team in the lead up to Party Conferences in Autumn 2018. There will be opportunities to organise meetings and events, monitor our parliamentary work and influence, and support the development of policy, public affairs and campaigns materials, as well as undertaking other administrative duties as required.DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Campaigns and Public Affairs
1.1. To help coordinate Women’s Aid’s grassroots Campaign Champions network - responding to queries, drafting campaigning materials and resources, and supporting the development of the network.
1.2. To keep up to date records of Women’s Aid’s parliamentary engagement and political contact, and supporting the team’s ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
1.3. To support arrangements for Party Conferences in Autumn 2018 - researching and writing briefings, and identifying public affairs opportunities.
2. General responsibilities
2.1To provide general support to the Campaigns & Public Affairs Team as required, including attending meetings and taking minutes where possible.
2.2To maintain clear and adequate records of work done.
2.3To carry out word-processing, filing, and administrative tasks necessary to comply with the job description.

PERSON SPECIFICATION: Campaigns & Public Affairs Volunteer
EXPERIENCE
Essential: Experience of developing and/or maintaining administrative systems or projects; Experience of liaising and working with external organisations and individuals.
Desirable: Experience of working on campaigns or within the charity sector.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Essential: Effective oral communication skills, including a confident telephone manner, and
the ability to deal with a range of enquiries to a busy team; Effective written communication skills, including the ability to write letters, emails
and reports; Good organisation skills and the ability to work to a high standard of accuracy; Proficient in word-processing, excel, powerpoint and in the use of email and the
internet.
Desirable: Ability to communicate sensitively about the issues facing women and children
affected by domestic abuse;
KNOWLEDGEEssential: A clear understanding of the work of Women’s Aid and our work on domestic
abuse.
Desirable Knowledge of the issues facing women and children affected by domestic and
abuse; Understanding of the workings of Parliament and Government.
OTHER REQUIREMENTSEssential:
Able to demonstrate a commitment and sensitivity of the aims and objectives of Women’s Aid;
Commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and equal opportunities; Willingness to work occasional unsocial hours as required.
