From the Principal Dear Norris Road Community, Thank you to the staff and students, the learning you have taken on this year is testament to your resilience and capabilities. Your support of each other is what makes this place such a joy in which to work. Thank you to the P&C for an incredible year. To Cheryl, Robyn and Jenny in the Café and Uniform shop, Thank you. You always have time for us. Thank you to our very valued families and community partners, including Ray White Bracken Ridge. Your continued support of Norris Road is very much appreciated. I wish you all the very best for the holiday season ahead. Be safe and enjoy the time with family and friends. I think, for most of us, the end of 2020 is being met with relief. It is a year that taught us more than most of us thought capable. It was also a year that challenged us to embrace the closeness of family, and for that I am very grateful. The busy-ness of life can sometimes get in the way of too many things, so being forced to isolate, stay at home and connect is a positive that I will take away from this year. We asked the students too about their learning this year and what take-aways they have for us. See below for the question and their responses. What positives have you learned about yourself while you have been responsible for getting yourself into your classroom of a morning? Mum and Dad know I’m responsible enough to walk to my classroom. Independence I can do things on my own. I don’t have my mum reminding me of things I already know to do. I am responsible enough to do things by myself. It is less crowded around the school in the mornings and afternoons. It teaches us not to rely on people. My parents rely on me to pick up my brother. I have more responsibilities now. It has helped my Mum to get to work on time. It has helped to keep us healthy. To the staff members and families leaving us at the end of the year, we wish you all the very best for your future and thank you for the contribution you make to this very special place. Day 8 always brings such ‘joy’. We have created classes for 2021 based on current enrolments. These are 690 students and 28 classes. While we have done our best to plan for 2021, we cannot predict what changes may happen over the break resulting in an increase or decrease to our enrolments. If there are changes to be made, we will do that as soon as possible to create stability as early as possible. Know that any changes are made with the best interests of students and their learning. First Nations and Deadly Choices Deadly Choices will begin again for us during Week 2 of next year. The team will come in on Tuesday afternoons for 8 weeks, working with indigenous students from grades 4 and above.

The First Nations group met on Monday afternoon to feedback from NAIDOC and begin preparations for 2021. I am very pleased to announce that our parents will now lead this group, driving the agenda and facilitating the meetings. I will take on the role of participant in the learning. Thank you to the members of this group who are helping to increase our cultural understanding. I am very much looking forward to the learning that 2021 will bring. All staff will participate in Hidden Histories PD at the start of 2021 to assist with our cultural understanding. Uniforms for 2021 Please use the link below to book a 15-minute time to try on and pay for uniforms for 2021. At this stage, no walk-ins will be accommodated. Your patience and understanding is appreciated. If there are any changes to this at the beginning of the year, we will use Facebook to notify our community. https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/parent.php?schoolid=70149 Thank you for your incredible patience and understanding this year. Shannon Lusk Principal
