GROUP CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
The Group has continued to demonstrate success in the past year in
terms of offering a wide range of activities for the young people in the
Group. Our youth membership has increased to over 180 members
which is brilliant.
I would like to thank the members of my executive committee for their
help and support over that last year. They are part of a team which with
the leaders and helpers makes Liphook Scout Group very special.
The accounts for the last two years show that the Group is not
generating enough income to match expenditure. We are also faced with
rent increase from the Parish council and utility bills are also an issue.
This situation is under active discussion by the Group Executive
Committee and options such as subscription increases and better fund
raising are being considered.
The Group needs to increase its fund raising efforts. Recent planned
events, such as the Race Night have had to be cancelled due to lack of
support. We also need to recruit more non uniformed people to support
the Group on events such as the LIDBA Bike Ride catering stall, Classic
Car Catering stall and the annual Christmas Post.
Please support this great Group in any way that you can.

GROUP SCOUT LEADER’S REPORT
Liphook Scouts continue to thrive and be successful and we are still one
of the largest single groups in Hampshire. Our two Beaver Colonies and
the three Cub Packs are just on the maximum numbers that we can
take; the two Scout Troops number just a little lower than the maximum
and the Explorer Scouts numbers are very good. This gives total
membership in April of 181 members. With the current number of
members and the names on the waiting list, in a years time all the
sections will be at maximum numbers and we could have over 200
members.
We are getting a number enquires from people who live in the
surrounding villages who wish to join Liphook Group. We are prepared
to put their names on the waiting list and for them to join us. However
we are notifying them that we give priority to people that live in the local
area first and informing them of Scout Groups more local to where they
live.
Liphook group is very active and I am pleased to report that all members
have had the opportunity to experience either a camp or night away
during the year. Beavers held their camp at Tilford where together with
their parents enjoyed many Scouting activities, plus this last year the
District Beavers organised a night away staying at Runways End at
Farnborough The Cub’s went further afield and held their camp at
Cricket camp site on the edge of the River Hamble, plus the District
organised a Sixer weekend at Southbourne Sea Scout HQ.
The Scouts and the Explorers held various weekend camps but one of
the highlights was the camp to Kefalonia in Greece which was a great
success. For the members that were unable to take part in the Kefalonia
camp an equally successful camp was organised at Goodwood at the
same time. Then in addition to this a group of Explorer Scouts joined
together with 1st Linslade Scout Group on a skiing trip to Kandersteg,
Scout International Centre in Switzerland during the February half term.
The group continues to provide a wide variety of activities to its
members, canoeing, climbing, and archery to name a few. Our rifle Club
Page 10 of 24
continues to be very successful with its members taking part in Local,
County and National events and competitions. Jez Turner is just about
to start up an archery club so please look out for the notices for this.
In addition to all our own activities The Group has continued to help and
support the local community in many ways, the Over Sixties and their
garden party, supporting LiDBA with their annual cycle ride, assisted
with Liphook in Bloom and the Deer’s Hut Classic Car Day and taking
part in the Annual Remembrance Service.
For the Group to continue to be successful we do need Parent
commitment and support. We do have good support with the sections
from the parents but we do need you to go that bit further. Liphook
Scouts is only as good as it is due to the dedication of its Leaders,
committee member’s supporters and helpers. We are always looking for
further help to ensure that we can continue to provide this or even higher
level of Scouting. Here in Liphook volunteering can be flexible and will
give you an opportunity to work with young people and it can be
incredibly fun as well. Whether you have a specific skill you want to offer
or if you are looking to develop new skills, we have something for you. It
doesn’t matter how little time you have to give as we are very flexible. If
you can help in any way please speak to me, Kevin Stephenson or any
Leader.
My thanks go to all the Leaders, Executive Committee Members,
supporters, helpers and parents who have supported the Group in the
past year and we look forward to another exciting year ahead for Scouts
in Liphook.

WILLOW BEAVER COLONY REPORT
Willow Beavers (Monday nights) have had a busy 12 months of fun,
games, learning and exploring.
Alongside the usual games, our programme has included such evenings
as Crazy Crafts, an Easter Egg hunt, finger puppets, biscuit making, a
night on the theme of ‘Mind & Memory’, and a night where we all got
proper grown up jobs. The young leaders also ran a great night on the
theme of surfing and seaside safety.
We’ve also worked towards a number of badges as part of the
programme, including the difficult Emergency Aid badge, and many of
the Beavers have worked on additional badges at home too. This last
year has seen Willow earn more badges than ever before... including a
notable number of Bronze Awards – the highest achievement in Beaver
Scouts.
Our adventurous away-from-the-HQ activities over the previous twelve
months have included Beaver Camp, a trip to Paultons Park, kite flying,
and the first ever Petersfield District Beaver Sleepover. Thrillingly, at the
District Challenge Day, a team from Willow came away with the main
prize – the first time the colony has triumphed at that event! Well done
everyone that took part!
Willow wouldn’t be able to run without an enthusiastic team of helpers –
so thank you to Nick, Neil, Steve, Niamh, Luke, Will and everyone else
who assisted.

ASHDOWN BEAVER COLONY REPORT
Where does the time go when you’re having fun? Here’s what Ashdown Colony has been up to in the past year. Our annual camp was the highlight of the year and this year the theme was Space. The weekend involved the boys making various craft items including Rockets and Planet mobiles. The Beavers and parents also got to have a go at archery, Backwoods cooking, canoeing and climbing. I would like to thank all the leaders & helpers involved for making the weekend a huge success.
The Beavers have been working exceptionally hard this year on their
badge work. We presented the following badges to Beavers during the
past year.
24 x Air Activities
24 x Discovery Challenge
24 x Experiment
24 x Fitness Challenge
24 x Faith
8 x Stage 1 nights away
8 x Outdoor Challenge
6x Explore
3 x Hobbies
2 x Swimmer stage 1
4 x Animal Friend
3 Beaver Scouts have also earned the Chief Scouts Bronze award
which is the highest award for Beaver Scouts so well done to them.
Paulton’s Park was a very big item on our calendar this year, with a 57
seater coach full of Beavers and parents. The Park held a special day
for Beaver scouts from across Hampshire, this year was an amazing
turnout from across the county with over 2000 members attending and
everyone got to see Santa Claus while enjoying all the rides in the park.
The Beavers also had the opportunity to work on a special Paulton’s
badge that they can wear on their uniform.
In March the Beavers took part in the District Beaver Challenge. 15
Beavers headed to Liphook HQ for an exciting afternoon of challenges,
they were joined with 50 other Beaver Scouts from across the District.
Other activities we have been up to include making biscuits (and eating
them), Fireworks pictures, Christmas parties, Pet Shop game,
centipedes and memory games
I would like to say a great big thankyou to all the leaders and helpers of
Ashdown Colony. Angie Pawlyszyn (Piglet) Judith Harker (Tigger)
Kenny Brunet (Eyore) Caroline Stephenson (Roo) and our parent
helpers Chris Blackaby and Barbara Cuerden. We have also had 2
young people (Dan Cooke and Ultan Wood) working towards their Duke
of Edinburgh award and have been a great help at the colony, many
thanks to them for their hard work.

DOWNLANDS CUB PACK REPORT
Since taking over as Akela a year ago we have achieved a whole range
of activities enjoyed by all the cubs.
During our weekly meetings we have learnt about First Aid, Science
Experiments, code breaking using different codes, stars and planets
where we had a look through the telescopes at Clanfield Observatory,
safety inside and outside the home and how to look after themselves
and become more independent. At the beginning of September they
wrote their own Code of Conduct which they signed and vowed to
adhere to.
We have introduced more responsibility for the sixers to take on by
training up the New seconders to become good sixers in the future,
learning how to fold and put up the flag, taking their own registers, and
running games of their choice, making them ready for scouts.
We have had some great outings which are rewarded for good
behaviour. Last year we went for a night away at the Explosion Museum
in Gosport which was an action packed night with code breaking and
games where they were awarded points for their team which were
converted into money for them to buy equipment to make rockets. The
following day they spent a day at Portsmouth Dockyard learning about
the History of the Royal Navy and finishing off with an action packed
afternoon at Action Stations. We have also had a day trip to Laser Quest
.We have also participated in the Pinewood Derby and the Rodney
Bishop football competition in which our team were runners up again.
We couldn’t do it with the dedication and support of our parent helper
and football manager Richard Cuerden who gives up his time to come
and help every week.
I have lots of support within the group from Phelim, Dick and Chris and
our regular parent helpers Richard and Karen who without their help we
wouldn’t be able to do the activities we do. We are also very lucky to
have Duncan Codd and Jocelyn Ainsley who are Explorer Scouts who
Page 15 of 24
are both very valuable members of our Adult Leader team, and take a
very active part in the running of the Cub Pack
We would welcome anyone else who might wish to join us. I am sure
you will find it very enjoyable, and also participate in some of the
Activities we have listed above.

OAKHANGER CUB PACK REPORT
Oakhanger pack has had a successful year with numbers remaining
around twenty-six. Fifteen Cubs attended Cub camp last May which
was held at Cricket Campsite at Bursledon on the out skirts of
Southampton which started with a wet Friday evening and then turned
warm and sunny for the rest of the weekend. Oakhanger Pack currently
has eighteen Cubs signed up for this year’s camp at Runways End,
Farnborough.
We ran a varied and full programme with lots of badge work and
meeting outside the HQ. Some of the activities we have done include
‘peaoneering’ (that’s building structures with cocktail sticks and dried
peas), a visit from ‘Street Nation’ where all the cubs were taught a short
street dance, climbing, volleyball and Remembrance Day sketches. Our
trips out included a visit to Clanfield Observatory, boat racing in Radford
Park, a night hike by train, swimming and a night hike and sleepover
with Wheatsheaf pack.
Four of the older Cubs joined thirty other Cubs at the District sixers
sleepover which was held at Southbourne Sea Scout HQ. The Cubs
took part in activities geared towards their age, some of which are
normally enjoyed at Scouts, including ice cream making, cooking with an
almond and volcanoes.
The pack was represented well at District Cub events with the highlight
for the pack being winning the District Mastermind Competition, the first
time a Liphook pack had won the trophy. Unfortunately, we won the
wooden spoon in the Rodney Bishop Football competition.
None of the programme would have been possible without a great team of
leaders, helpers and young leaders. I would like to thank leaders Alison
Jackson and Rob Clue, helper Pete Stevens and young leaders Adam
Green, Robert Ivens, Michael Lowe and Daniel Robertson, all former
Liphook Cubs.
Trevor Holden- Akela Oakhanger Pack
WHEATSHEAF CUB PACK REPORT
The Cubs at Wheatsheaf Pack have enjoyed another action packed
year. The first terms programme included a street dance session, a wide
game at Lynchmere Common, cub camp an international evening about
the Kandersteg International Scout centre, a water fight evening and a
trip to Fratton Park.
The Autumn Term soon came round and badge work continued, we had
a night hike from Waggoners Wells back to the Scout HQ followed by a
movie and sleep over, an angry birds themed pioneering activity, the
District Pinewood Derby and Carol service.
In the spring term, we tried to gear up towards activities that would also
be of use outside in preparation for Summer. Knots and climbing, soccer
skills, an entertainers evening, map reading as well as a fundraising
evening of fancy dress and games - finished with another hike and sleep
over. In addition, there was the district six-a-side competition at
Petersfield and a district sixers and seconders weekend at South
Prinsted, bringing a good crowd of the districts cubs together for a fun,
activity filled weekend.
Learning and developing Cubs skills, through activities that the Cubs
enjoy is something we try to build in to our programme is always
ongoing, and the cubs badge scheme is a way to reward the cubs for
their effort and work. This last year we have presented 148 badges to
our cubs, which include 2 Silver Awards, the highest award a cub can
achieve and 47 Challenge badges that are earnt over a number of
weeks or even terms and 99 activity badges.
I would like to say a big well done and thank you to all the Cubs we have
and have had in the last year for making it an enjoyable year, and thank
you to the team of leaders of Lauren, Val, Steve and Helen and to Josh
and Luke for turning up! It wouldn’t be as enjoyable with the help of
these people and the support from the parents.
Jez Turner - Akela, Wheatsheaf Pack.

SCOTT & SHACKLETON SCOUT TROOPS REPORT
As most people will be aware, Scott and Shackleton Scout Troops share
their programmes throughout the year, coming together for camps and
several evenings so that members get to know each other. We
therefore submit a joint AGM report as follows :
Scott and Shackleton Scouts were proud to assist in all the village
events for 2013/14 which included raising funds at the Deer’s Hut
Classic Car Day, sponsored cycle riding at the LIDBA event, carving the
pumpkins for this year’s Carnival float, and helping with the Scout
Christmas Post.
The highlight of the year was the holding of two simultaneous summer
camps in August, one at Upwaltham, near Goodwood and one on the
Greek island of Keffalonia.
Both camps were blessed with fantastic weather, the one at Upwaltham
having a Chinese theme, making Chinese goldfish windsocks to
decorate the camp and bring good luck and prosperity. Water skiing
was enjoyed as was a fancy dress home-cooked splendid Chinese
camp dinner, rifle shooting, cycle and day hikes, a trip to Littlehampton,
the building of a willow-yert, bivvying, backwoods cooking and star
gazing. The Keffalonian camp explored the island, its capital Argostoli
and the numerous paradise beaches, the mountain and tites n mites
cave, swam a lot, sea kayaked, pony trekked, feasted and danced the
evening away at Oscar’s renowned Greek restaurant, pioneered bench
seats and beds and slept out under the stars. Two of our Explorers
loved the experience in Keffalonia so much they’ve been inspired to go
back under their own steam in the coming year.
Both Troops have cooked a lot during the year, caught and eaten
crayfish at Frensham. They’ve studied and re-enacted (in a fun way!)
Shackleton’s trip to the Antarctic and experienced life as lived by people
dealing with blindness, difficulty of movement or who are hard of
hearing. They’ve learned how to prepare wildfowl and rabbits for the
pot, ponassed trout on open fires at Rogate, learned map reading skills,
Page 19 of 24
GPS navigation skills and done a walkie/talkie treasure hunt. They’ve
had a bike hike to Liss, an Autumn scavenging/survival camp near
Goodwood where they also enjoyed Ashley’s aerial runway. They’ve
been ten pin bowling at Havant, and had a bonfire/fireworks/hot dog
party for the 5th November. They’ve had an Easter Egg trail and hunt
around Waggoner’s Wells, learned first aid skills, done an historic War
Walk round Hindhead, had a scientific experiment night and a wonderful
talk from Rob Allen (and his guide dog) – Rob is a silver medal winning
Olympian (blind) cycling champion. We learned a lot from him. Scott is
proud to say that one of it’s Scouts, Jesse Caie, has been accepted for a
place at the forthcoming Scout World Jamboree in Japan and he’s
currently fund raising to enable himself to go. Well done Jesse.
Jesse’s Dad Neil has kindly taken over as Scott’s leader having been a
Troop helper for a long time. Chris Haines has made the transition from
Explorer scout to being an excellent Troop Assistant Leader with
Shackleton and we’ve regretfully said goodbye to Johnathan Pontet
from Shackleton, but congratulated him on being accepted for training
with the Metropolitan Police. Thanks go to all parents and helpers
who’ve given their time or expertise to the scouts over the last year.
