Rationale Background
The effects of nurse instructors or preceptors, as they are called in the nursing field on
nursing students in clinical settings can range from helpful to detrimental. Depending on the
preceptor, the student may come away from the clinical teaching experience either confident or
uncertain about herself as a nurse and her skills and may view nursing as either a positive or
negative experience. Effective characteristics of clinical instructors in nursing are applicable to
other health areas. This has been viewed by Kramer (2012)

The main objective of this study is to assess the clinical instructors’ behavior and
performance in the clinical area and will be further be assessed if these qualities will
directly or indirectly affect the students’ performance clinically and academically. The
instructor factor is viewed to immensely affect the students’ performance and will
supplementary affect the skills, knowledge and attitude of the student after coming away
from the nursing program.
Statement of the Problem
This research study determined the nursing instructors’ behavior towards their students
and how this will affect the clinical and academic performance of the students.
Specifically this study sought to answer the following;
1. What are the students profile in terms of;
1.1 Age;
1.2 Gender;

2.4 Relationship with their students?
3. Is there a significant difference between the instructors’ behavior towards the students
when group according to age, gender, and occupations of parents?
Statement of the Hypothesis
1. There is no significant difference between the instructor’s behavior towards the students
when group according to age, gender and type of occupation of parents.
Procedures and Design
The researchers used the descriptive design. The researchers use this design to
determine the factors affecting the perception of students taking up BS Nursing. This
method answers the question and satisfies curiosity of the researcher
Statistical Treatment
The data gathered was organized and processed through the Statistical Package for
Social Sciences (SPSS). As one of the rules followed in the use of the software, the
formula of the statistical tools used were not reflected anymore since the computer did
not follow the steps in the manual computation. The data were treated, analyzed and
interpreted so as to answer the questions posted previously in this study. The profiles of
the respondents were established by frequency and percentage distribution. Mean was
used to determine the final weight of each item on the Nursing Instructor Behaviors. The
Pearson’s Product Moment of Correlation was used to establish the extent of the

relationship between the nursing instructors behavior when group according o their
profile.
Summary of the Findings
Summary of the Finding:
The researchers had summarily presented the following:
1. Profile of the Respondents:
Age: Majority of the respondents were clustered to 18 – 20 years old this ha has
the highest percentage of 54 percent and 2 percent were age 27 – 29 and 30 – 32.
Gender: Most of the respondents are female as revealed by the 64 percent and
male has only 36 percent.
Occupation of the Parents: White collar job got 70 percent and blue collar job was
only 30 percent.
2. Clinical teaching performance was always demonstrated by the clinical instructor

3. Instructors’ behaviors according to classroom performance were assessed and
rated as always with average weighted mean of 2.74.
4. Clinical Instructor’s behavior according to communication towards the student has
the averaged weighted mean of 2.41 with the descriptive interpretation of always.
However, question number 6 “call students who caught cheating during
examination” describe as never. And question number 7 “ask question

sometimes.

The clinical teaching performance of the clinical instructors is highly regarded by
the students themselves next is the clinical teaching performance which are both a
good indicator of the instructors capacity and capability to mold the students in a

Recommendations
Based on the general findings of this study the following recommendation is hereby
recommended by the researchers:
1. Based on the findings of this study the clinical instructors behaviors towards their
students is highly rated by students meaning clinical instructors of the Celtech
College of Nursing possessed the adequate behavior require to become worthy of
their positions as a clinical instructors. With this positive behavior clinical
instructor should maintain and preserve this positive behavior.
2. Though all items were highly rated there are still some items from each behavior
which were negatively perceived by the students. To wit clinical instructors should
avoid uttering inappropriate words especially when they are pissed off with their
students. Respect may be given towards them if they will also maintain respect
towards their students. They avoid should behavior and should control and be
aware of the words they say. Respect will be earned if one person also shoes and
give respect.
