Vendor Insight We moved to Blacksmiths Lane around ten years ago,” says Shelina, “and what initially attracted us was the property’s generous proportions both inside and out. Our son was very young

at the time and he particularly loved having the space and freedom that both the house and the garden offered him.”

“The house was in great condition when we bought it,” continues Shelina, “and so we really haven’t had to do much to it at all, except keep it well maintained and in excellent condition. All the rooms are large and the accommodation is extremely flexible, so we have been able to adapt the way we use certain areas as our needs have changed over the years. For instance, we discovered that the conservatory made a beautiful dining room as it’s large and has a lovely view of the garden, and so in turn we converted the dining room into a games room. It’s a house that has worked extremely well for us as a family.”

This lovely home occupies a superb location within the picturesque village of Ellington. It is a place that is enveloped by glorious countryside, and yet it is also a setting that benefits from good transport links and easy access to a wide variety of shops and amenities in, among other places, nearby Huntingdon and St Neots. My son attended Kimbolton School which is extremely convenient to get to and has a school bus service.

Favourite room: “Although they are two separate rooms, the kitchen and living room have a very open-plan feel,” says Shelina. “They are the rooms that we tend to gravitate to and therefore the real heart of the home, and because they are such sociable spaces they’re great for entertaining.”

Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area: “Ellington is a great place to live,” says Shelina. “We have a lovely pub that has just reopened and is now owned by a Michelin Star-trained chef, so it serves beautiful food, and it’s only a stroll away from the house. We’re also very close to Grafham Water, which is a place that we have fully enjoyed over the years.”

Memorable event (if not another favourite room or unique feature): “The garden is wonderfully large,” says Shelina, “and the gazebo provides a real focal point. Over the years we’ve used it an awful lot, having birthday BBQ and parties. As it has power it’s a lovely place to sit out on a warm evening and listen to music.”

What they’ll miss most / why they are leaving: “This has been a really fabulous home,” says Shelina. “It has provided us with all the space that we have needed as a family in a quiet yet convenient location.” We felt the home was secluded enough to give us privacy and central enough for the school run.
