In His Service, Bro. David LeCompte
2 Corinthians 8:9
“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.”
Isn’t it amazing that Christians can only give Jesus to the world because He first gave Himself to us? The love of Jesus is one of the most amazing gifts you and I could ever receive! Now, what does a person do with a gift they have received? Well, hopefully, they use and enjoy the gift for a long period of time.
When I was a child, and after I finished opening my Christmas presents, I would put them on my bed in my room. I would then sit on my bed and think about what I was going to do with them. I would think about which one I would play with first. And as the days and months went on, there would always be that one toy that I loved the most, and that one toy that was never played with at all. For the most part, the unused toy was forgotten. Unintentionally, it had become a wasted gift. At times, my parents or sisters would come in my room and ask, “Are you ever going to play with that gift?” My reaction was always the same as I would re-spond, “Yes! I am going to play with it!” But deep down I knew I would never play with the toy.
The biggest issue, I was the one that wanted and asked for the gift! So, why would I not play with what I had wanted in the beginning? Jesus became poor so that you and I could become rich. Jesus doesn’t want us to be rich necessarily with money, but with His love; both now on earth and forever in heaven! We just celebrated Christmas last month. Jesus is the reason for the season. But will He stay our most prized possession as the days and months go on in 2019? Or will He unfortunately be that one wasted gift? Don’t waste the riches the Father has lavishly given in Jesus Christ! Let 2019 be filled with riches of Jesus’ love!
Happy New Year!
Pastor Chris
