The vest was sponsored by a fundraiser hosted by Ryan Ushijima of ULR Laboratories LLC and embroidered with the sentiment ‘’Born to Love, Trained to Serve, Loyal Always’’. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c(3) charity located in East Taunton, MA whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The non- profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially life-saving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s has provided over 3,500 US made, custom-fitted, NIJ certified protective vests in 50 states, through private and corporate donations, totaling $6.9 million dollars. The program is open to dogs actively employed in the US with law enforcement or related agencies who are certified and at least 20 months of age. New K9 graduates, as well as K9s with expired vests, are eligible to participate. The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $950. Each vest has a value between $1,744- $2,283 with a five-year warranty and an average weight of 4-5 lbs. There is an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States. By Manuel Azocar III Erica Salinas has been named the new Home Health Administrator of Frio Hospital Home Health. As administrator, Salinas is charged with ensuring the quality and safe delivery of home health care services for patients in Frio, Medina, and La Salle county while coordinating the Agency’s philosophy and standards of care by planning, developing, implementing and evaluating Agency programs and activities that reflect its goals for the present day and into the future. She has 14 years of RN experience and was the RN Case Manager in Home Health for the last six years. “Over the last six years as a home health case manager, I have been responsible for direct patient care, forming, updating, and implementing patient care plans while working in close communications with patient’s health care providers, implementing physician orders and performing various nursing procedures,” she said. “And providing patients and their families with instruction on how to better manage their chronic medical conditions with the goal of preventing frequent ER visits and hospitalizations.” She has worked with Frio Hospital Home Health since September of 2018. “Growing up in Pearsall, I knew that it was important to be a positive example to those who may follow in my footsteps,” she says of the reponsibility of her new position. “My ultimate goal has always been to serve my hometown with the best health care that I can possibly provide. “I am thankful for the opportunity the hospital has given me to continue to work towards the success of Frio Home Health and the outcome improvement of all of our patients.
