Grammar: 1) El tiempo presente
1. Regular –ar, -er & -ir verbs. Drop the infinitive and add the following
endings (accents go in the “yo & él/ella forms):
2. Orthographic verbs are those verbs that end in –car, -gar, -zar.
Orthographic means there is a spelling change; in this case, in the “yo”
form of the preterite tense only. The changes are –qu,-gu, -c in place of the
–car, -gar, -zar respectively. Continue to use regular –ar, -er, & -ir verb
endings (accents still go in the “yo & él/ella forms).

single vowel: e i & o u! Unlike in the present tense where you stem-
change all the forms except the “nosotros”, the preterite tense stem-
changes in the 3rd persons he/she & they only) (accents still go in the “yo &

1. Nearly all verbs in the imperfect are regular and there is no stem-
changing in this tense. The endings for –ar, -er, & -ir infinitives are as
follows:
