WHAT NOT TO DO TO A HOARDER

While threats to ignore, disown or cut off communication might work for the show INTERVENTION a Hoarder might consider it a blessing – a way out of a difficult critical dysfunctional bullying relationship.

Threats (or even promises) of solitude may not accomplish much (with respect to hoarding) except reinforce the idea that distance from people needs to be maintained and so no efforts to change are sought. They just add to everyone's

frustrations, anxieties, and depression and they are an example of poor communication and problem solving skills.
