Numbers 11:5-6We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic. But now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at."

Numbers 14:2-3And all the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The whole congregation said to them, "Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness! Why is the LORD bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become a prey. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?"

Acts 7:39 39 Our fathers refused to obey him, but

thrust him aside, and in their hearts they turned to Egypt,

1 Corinthians 10:9-10 We must not put Christ to the test, as

some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer.

Exodus 1:11 Therefore they set taskmasters over them

to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Raamses.

Exodus 1:13-14 So they ruthlessly made the people of

Israel work as slaves and made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field. In all their work they ruthlessly made them work as slaves.

Exodus 2:23-24 During those many days the king of Egypt died,

and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God. And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel—and God knew.

They escape their former lives with God’s help but…

Pslam 78:1-22 22 because they did not believe in God and did

not trust his saving power.

Do we do this today?

Do we look at our sinful past or the things the world has and desire it?

Do we fall back into a habit of sin?

Are their similarities under NT with OT example?

We were slaves to sin.

Romans 6:16-17 God provided a

means to save us; to escape the situation.

Acts 2:38-40 Gave us a wonderful

promise of inheritance.

Ephesians 3:6Titus 3:4-7

2 Peter 2:17-20 These are waterless springs and mists driven

by a storm. For them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved. For, speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.

Page 9: 2 Peter 2:21-22 Numbers 11:5-6 We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic

2 Peter 2:21-22 For it would have been better for them

never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”

Page 10: 2 Peter 2:21-22 Numbers 11:5-6 We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic

Numbers 15:30-31 But the person who does anything

with a high hand, whether he is native or a sojourner, reviles the LORD, and that person shall be cut off from among his people. Because he has despised the word of the LORD and has broken his commandment, that person shall be utterly cut off; his iniquity shall be on him.”

Page 11: 2 Peter 2:21-22 Numbers 11:5-6 We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic

Ezekiel 20:6-8 On that day I swore to them that I would bring

them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most glorious of all lands. And I said to them, Cast away the detestable things your eyes feast on, every one of you, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am the LORD your God. But they rebelled against me and were not willing to listen to me. None of them cast away the detestable things their eyes feasted on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt.“Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them and spend my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

Proverbs 26:11Like a dog that returns to his vomit

is a fool who repeats his folly.

Like a swine: Going from clean to dirty

Hebrews 6:4-6 For it is impossible to restore again to

repentance those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they then fall away, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.

We forget unpleasant memories Can be a good thingJohn 16:21 When a woman is giving birth, she has

sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.

Israelites forgot their bondage. We sometimes forget our former sinful

life.

1 Timothy 6:9-10 But those who desire to be rich fall into

temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

2 Timothy 4:10 For Demas, in love with this present world, has

deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

I John 2:15-17

Examine ourselves & Question ourselves2 Corinthians 13:5 Make sure we know what we are doing Matthew 7:21-23Philippians 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have

always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,

Jews didn’t always know where they were going or how they would win their battles.

our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Colossians 3:5-8 Put to death therefore what is earthly in

you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.

1 Corinthians 11:32 But when we are judged by the Lord,

we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world.

1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be

steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

Galatians 3:26-29 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God,

through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise.
