I have taken stereotypes into consideration to

make the representations in my magazine as

accurate as possible. For example I have used

stereotypical colours that not only represent the

rock genre, but are also very stereotypically

masculine colours such as black. I have used

very stereotypical costumes for the images in

my magazine, that represent the rock genre

and the young artists in my magazine very

accurately.

Page 3: 2 representation

I have represented the rock artists in my

magazine to be very young. I have done this

because my target is also very young, this

means that the artists will be of a similar age

and it will make it easier for the reader to

associate themselves with the stars.

I have done this by making all of the people in

my images young, wearing clothes like black

skinny jeans and hoodies which are associated

with younger people and are very stereotypical.

Also my magazine is informal, this gives it a more

youthful feel.

Rock audience

MaleFemale

The rock genre’s audience is slightly more

masculine than it is feminine. This is portrayed in

the magazine in the way it represents itself and

the rock artists.

In magazine I have represented it to be

masculine, I have done this with my choice

of colours which included black, which can

be seen as a masculine colour. Also I used

bold san serif fonts. Also the images in my

magazine are all of males. They have been

represented to be masculine by the way

they are standing, very serious and stern.

Also they are represents through the use of

stereotypically masculine costume and

colour.

In the rock genre, many magazines are very

aggressive. This is represented through the use

of colour, font, language and images.

In my magazine I have used a lot of red, this

colour connotes violence and aggression.

My images are all serious, this can be seen as

aggressive and it suits the genre very well. The

way the people in my images and what they

are wearing suit the genre and make them look

very aggressive.

My fonts are big and bold which also connotes

violence.

Page 6: 2 representation

It is very conventional for rock magazines to

represent the rock artist as very dark. They do

this through the use of costume, colour facial

expressions and font. I have tried to replicate

this in my magazine using colours like black

with the white.

The rock genre is very well known for

representing itself to be rebellious. This

is again don’t through the use of

fonts, colour and images. Like the

Kerrang masthead which appears to

be smashed. This represents aggression

and rebelling.

My masthead has a faded

effect which makes it look

very used and connotes

similar things to the smashed

effect of the Kerrang

masthead, this is because

they both look used and

broken.

The colour red

connotes aggression

and violence which

can be associated

with rebelling. I have

used this a lot

through out my

magazine.

Rock magazines usually have a very

informal mode of address. This is

represented in the use of language in

the magazines. Some of the text I my

magazine is informal and the layout for

my cover is fairly cluttered like a rock

magazine cover normally is.
