Ten local bands will play throughout the day, from 2.00pm until 1.00am, in order to raise money for the charity’s project in Ramshaw. Landlady, Shelly Walker, says, "People say charity begins at home, but the people that Turnaround are helping had no home and a lot of them would not have survived without the help and support of Harry and the rest of the Turnaround team". The purpose of the day is to raise funds for the development and continuation of a farm in Ramshaw where people come to realise their potential and integrate back into society with a sense of self worth. When Harry Wrigglesworth MBE, founder of the charity, was asked how he felt about the day, he said, "It's absolutely marvelous that all these young people are coming together to raise money for our cause and is much appreciated. "The money raised will go towards improving access around the farm allowing people of all ages and abilities to benefit from the project". Entry price for the full day will be £2 with all the money going to the charity. The Tut ‘n’ Shive in Newgate Street where the all-day event will take place. According to a recent survey carried out by Bishop Auckland MP, Helen Goodman, anti-social behaviour is the biggest concern for residents of the town. Residents in Bishop took part in the survey, as well as those in Shildon, Spennymoor and Teesdale. It was discovered that people were mostly concerned about burglaries, road safety and alcohol-related crime. Helen commented, “I was very pleased with the level of public response to this survey. I recently went on night patrol with police and it was really interesting to see the type of crimes that our police deal with every day. “Police numbers in Durham are up more than 120 officers since 1997, and it is no coincidence that crime has fallen across the county and in my constituency in the last year. “I know, however, that anti- social behaviour is still a real problem that affects communitites across the constituency, and I am pleased that Durham Police are using the powers given to them by the Government to provide local community policing, particularly through programmes such as StreetSafe where officers work alongside the local council, street wardens and the emergency services to identify and improve anti- social behavious ‘hotspots’. “While on patrol with the local police, I was shocked by the level of alcohol- related crime and I am not surprised that the survey also reflects public concern about this. I know Durham Police have introduced initiatives to target under-age drinking and drinking in public, and these have had some success, but this is a deep-seated problem that is mirrored across the country.” Helen has also lobbied Durham County Council to reduce speed limits and provide pedestrian crossings, especially on St Andrew’s Road. CRIME IS RESIDENTS’ BIGGEST WORRY MP for Bishop Auckland, Helen Goodman, has spoken of the recent expense scandal concerning Cabinet members, dismissing it as ‘absurd.’ In a recent interview, Helen said, “This is just ridiculous, to claim this is some kind of scandal, just absurd. “People surely don’t expect the Prime Minister to work 80 hours as the Prime Minister and then expect him to clean his own house. That is just ridiculous.” She went on to say, “It just seems very odd to me. In some countries there is real political corruption. There is no real political corruption in this country.” EXPENSE SCANDAL ‘ABSURD’ SAYS MP
