Twilight Twitches February 22, 2015 Lent I Msgr. Jim Fetscher

Dear Family,

Next Sunday we come together as a parish to share our Lenten Mission. Where are we being sent? Isn’t that what a Mission is?

Will the Holy Spirit guide Father Carlos Miyares as he walks with us on this part of our journey? Of course the Spirit will, especially IF IF IF during this week you are praying for Father Carlos. If we don’t ask the Spirit to help Carlos, why should the Spirit bother? Aha! “There’s the rub” as Hamlet says.

Father will preach at our Masses next weekend.

MISSION SCHEDULE

SUNDAY – MONDAY – TUESDAY

7:00 p.m. Main Sanctuary Please Note: On Monday and Tuesday Mass will be at 7:00 pm. There will be no 8:00 a.m. Mass on Monday and Tuesday.

I hope we can come together as a parish, both those who are working for a living and those who are retired. That’s why I am moving Mass for two days to the evening.

If you have any problem getting here, please let us know this week and we will see what we can do about having people help each other get here. If we do it for visitors on Sundays, we can sure do it for ourselves during the Mission.

I want to share something that hap-pened that the Pastoral Council thought you should know about. Over Christmas we received a check for $5,000 from parishioners that had a note in the memo line End Hunger campaign. I had the sense it was made without wanting a fuss made over it. However, the Pastoral Council said you should know just how generous people are, and more to the point that because of the gift, what St. Sebastian was able to do.

We helped the following to each of whom we gave $1,000: Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry (who also receive the groceries you bring each week), Bread for the Word (a Christian lobby that works in our country and throughout the world on food issues), HopeSouthFlorida (a local excellent community project that works to shelter mothers and children), Love Thy Neighbor (the foundation that works to feed the homeless, and pray that the city fathers of Fort Lauderdale make an effort to sit down and negotiate with Arnold Abbot and his group), and

St. Sebastian Vincent de Paul Society (our own outreach under Jim Guerin’s able leader-ship.) Please also keep bringing those groceries to fill up our “Drive Out Hunger” grocery carts. One of the sights I enjoy so much is watching the ushers a couple times on the weekend bringing the baskets to the pick-up room, and hearing them grunt slightly as they lift the carts up one step. It means you are not forgetting. If you’re like me maybe you should pick up one of those sheets attached to the carts with the suggestions as to what to bring. I always wind up buying pasta and sauce, but I’m sure I could come up with other slightly more healthy things – although really, is there anything better than a good pasta and sauce?

AND… while I am writing this Twitch for you, I hear two loud Yelps and Yeas coming from the next room. Guess what? You won’t need to hear the announcement anymore. We topped our ABCD goal by $4,569 and counting! Praise God!

Just one food item placed in the shopping carts at the Church doors will help. Thank you.
