Lyle-Kearsley SystemsQuality Information Management Systems

Circle Reader Service No. 142

Corporate Overview

Lyle-Kearsley Systems (LKS)provides software and servicesworldwide to industry giantssuch as Caterpillar, OsramSylvania, AlliedSignalAerospace, Ball Corp., EthiconEndo-Surgery, BaxterHealthcare, Quaker Oats,Honeywell and many others.

Our mission is to provide world-class products and services to allcompanies striving to improvetheir internal quality standards. Each of our products andservices takes advantage ofleading-edge technologies andmethods to ensure our clients’continued success in themarketplace.

Let’s assume that youmanufacture widgets… and theyare important widgets becausebusinesses and lives could be at

stake. An inferior product can becostly. The objective is for you toproduce identical widgets, whether it is just a few orhundreds of thousands. The word“identical” is the key. It impliesthat all widgets will bemanufactured to the same superbstandard. To achieve this, themanufacturing process must bean integrated system, designedwith a specific architecture thatincludes many distinctcomponents.

The glue that holds the entiremanufacturing process together is“Information Management.”That’s our business… creatingthe system that brings logic andorder to the manufacturingprocess that, without our help, could easily become sheerchaos… and a guaranteed moneyloser. Our job is to create aquality system that makes youmoney. What we do must pay foritself by decreasing labor costs, producing zero-defect products, garnering a reputation for highstandards, and being competi-tively priced… all while makingthe proper profit margins.

What makes LKS truly differentis that we are market-driven and

not confined by yesterday’smethods and technologies. Therefore, we are not limited inour thinking. The fact is, about80 percent of the companies thatneed our help use our “off theshelf” program; it’s that flexibleand that good. But we can alsohelp the other 20 percent with avariety of modifications, enhancements or customizedsolutions, including supportingmultiple databases of yourchoice. We’re flexible.Complying to inflexible, traditional solutions doesn’talways get the job done. Havinglimitless boundaries gives usmore options. Every problem hasan ideal solution, as well as acompromised one. We simplywill not settle for second best.

If LKS is expected to help youdevelop the level of quality yourcustomers anticipate, whyshouldn’t you expect the samefrom us? That’s why the word“no” is not in our lexicon and, inplain words, should not allowanyone to avoid responsibility.

MetricVisionPrecision Noncontact 3-D Metrology

Circle Reader Service No. 143

Corporate OverviewMetricVision is a leader in large-scale, noncontact, high-precision,three-dimensional metrology. Theinstrument system emerged from 10years of demanding requirementsand extensive use in the Departmentof Defense, Department of Trans-portation, Department of Energy,NASA, Boeing and privately fundedresearch. More than $25 million hasbeen invested in research anddevelopment. The technology hasbeen in use since 1993. Today, onlyone company has patent rights tothis technology: MetricVision, asubsidiary of the $4 billion, publiclytraded Thermo Electron Corp.Thermo is a worldwide leader inbiomedical, environmental andindustrial instruments.

MetricVision technology, CoherentLaser Radar, is immediately usefulin the lab and on the factory floor asan automation tool offeringnoncontact, precision 3-D meas-urement. The model 100B is fast,easy-to-use, very accurate andportable. The instrument canaccurately align large parts duringassembly. It can certify tooling andthen monitor its repeatability duringproduction. The model 100B canmeasure metal, plastic and com-posite as-built parts and comparethem to as-designed CAD models. Itcan scan complex geometry that wasimpossible to scan before because itwas too large, too hard-to-reach, toocomplex, too delicate or too labor-intensive.

The system requires one operator forfast setup, then runs unattended asneeded. It can do these things at theobject to be measured without aspecial environment and withoutexpensive tooling. It provides non-contact measurement that speedsmanufacturing, improves quality andlowers manufacturing costs. It elim-inates the need for photogrammetrydots, laser tracker SMRs or retro-reflectors, handheld probes, anddoes not have to calculate offsetsbecause measurements are takendirectly off the part surface.

MetricVision meets many differentapplication needs. And, by importingdata into leading third-party soft-ware, the noncontact systemsperform inspections, quality assess-ments, reverse engineering and otherspecial applications quickly andeasily. Software is availableinternationally from manufacturersincluding Silicon Graphics (AliasWavefront’s EvalViewer), NewRiver Kinematics (Spatial Analyzer),Imageware (Surfacer, Inspect It,Build It, Verdict), Perceptron (ScanWorks), Verisurf (All packages),Metris and Paraform.
