To establish a standard policy and procedure to ensure that all employees who handle hazardous materials are aware of proper handling and the potential risk if such materials are mishandled.
II. POLICY
All Supervisors shall be responsible for assuring that all current and new employees are fully informed and trained in the proper handling of hazardous materials.
III. SCOPE
Applicable to all employees of Orange County Animal Care Services (OCACS). IV. FORMS

VI. DEFINITIONS Not applicable.
VII. PROCEDURE
1. Copies of MSDS for all hazardous substances to which employees may be exposed shall be maintained in a MSDS labeled manual in the dispatch office.
2. Prior to the use of a new product, Supervisors shall review MSDS with staff. 3. Supervisors must review and update the list of MSDS on a yearly basis (remove
any MSDS that no longer apply). 4. No container of hazardous substance will be used until the following label
information is verified:

a. Container is clearly labeled as to its contents. b. Appropriate hazard warnings noted. 5. All secondary containers will be labeled with either an extra copy of the original
manufacturer’s label or with generic labels. 6. If a MSDS is not available or new hazardous substances in use do not have an
MSDS, contact the Safety Coordinator for assistance.
