MAGNALOCK® OVERVIEWMagnalocks are designed to secure any type of door or gate

that closes against a fixed stop. The product consists of an electro-magnet which mounts on the fixed frame and a strike plate which mountson the moving door or gate. The strike plate is delivered with fastenersthat permit it to flex so that when the door closes, it automatically selfaligns with the magnet. Magnetic force then takes over, strongly se-curing the door. Release is achieved by switching off power to the mag-net.

CHOOSE THE INDUSTRY LEADERSecuritron has been making electromagnetic locks since 1971

and has stayed at the forefront thanks to a continuing program of engi-neering improvements. In security industry trade journals, both install-ing dealers as well as end users have consistently chosen theMagnalock® as the most highly preferred product.

We attribute this not only to the product’s features but to itsproven performance in demanding applications.

SELECT FROM A COMPLETE FAMILYThe Model 32 and 34 series provide 600 pounds “traffic control”

security similar to electric strikes, and are recommended for applica-tions where a physical assault on the door is not expected. Primaryadvantages of the Model 32 and 34 are lower cost and more compactsize.

For sliding doors, the Model 34R series offers recessed mount-ing and results in 600 pounds of esthetically concealed holding power. The Model 62 series offers higher security with 1,200 pounds holdingforce. Entry cannot be forced without special tools, or before the dooror frame gives way. It’s recommended not only for high security open-

ings, but for outdoor use on all gate types, too.At 1,800 pounds, the Model 82SC series puts out maximum

MagPower! Applications for the Model 82SC include prison facilities,or anywhere an extra margin of strength is required. Model 82SC isalso effective on large exterior gates; or with a split strike plate on dou-ble doors.

The incredible Shear Aligning Magnalock®—SAM for short—permits concealed mounting in aluminum, wood and steel doors for theultimate in finished appearance. SAM delivers 1,000 pounds holdingforce, maintains swing through operation on double-acting doors, andeven works on motorized bi-parting doors!

ELECTROMAGNETIC LOCKS

HIGH TECHNOLOGY MEANS PERFORMANCE INYOUR APPLICATION

Creating the world’s best electromagnetic lock calls for seriousengineering. During its years of continued development, the Magnalock®

family has incorporated an array of advanced features (both physicaland electronic) that have made it what it is today. Along the way, it hasearned two separate U.S. patents and an impressive list of certifica-tions.

PHYSICAL CONSTRUCTION AND MOUNTINGA lock should be tough. The Magnalock® comes in a stainless

steel case and all ferrous metal surfaces are plated to military specifi-cations. A 10 ft. integral cable makes wiring easy and the Magnalock®

is at home indoors or out. Mounting is via hardened machine screwsinto self-collapsing blind nuts (four screws with the Model 62 and 82SC;two with the Model 32 and 34). Mounting screw holes are closed off

with tamper caps. Sheet metal screws—which can work free—are notused at all. Even the strike sex bolt has a massive 1-1/4" diameter head.

While the standard mounting hardware resists “casual” van-dalism and is considerably stronger than the holding force of theMagnalock®, Securitron can supply tamper proof hardware as an op-tion for high vandalism areas. Securitron tamper proof fasteners re-quire special tools for installation and removal. We can supply thesetools for hand or battery drill operation.

Models 34R and SAM shear lock require mortising.

ELECTRONIC PERFORMANCEFirst, Magnalocks are remarkably efficient in power use. The 62

series operates on only 3 watts. (250 mA at 12 VDC or 125 mA at 24VDC.)The 32 series uses 3-1/2 watts. (300 mA at 12 VDC or 150 mA at 24 VDC.)The 34 series, 82 series and SAM draw only 4 watts. This benefit isespecially important when large numbers of Magnalocks are operatedfrom a central power supply connected to the fire alarm system.Magnalock® efficiency generates large cost savings in wire gauge, power supply and battery backup costs.

Second, internal electronics eliminate problems often found inother designs. We reverse out residual magnetism and accelerate fieldcollapse so that inductive kickback and EMI are suppressed so there’sno arcing over control switches or interference with nearby electronicdevices. Ferrous metal aging which could lead to stickiness over timeis blocked. A U.S. patent has been granted on the Magnalock’s internalelectronics.

THE BENEFITS OF SECURING DOORS WITHMAGNETIC FORCE ALONE

Electromechanical strikes and locks have been around longer, but magnetic locks are increasingly dominating the industry. Why? Wesee four answers: Reliability, Security, Safety and Simplicity of Instal-lation.

Reliability. Anything mechanical wears out. The Magnalock® has

no moving parts and therefore possesses an unlimited operating life. Not many products perform for decades with no attention, but you canget this performance when you select the Magnalock®. In addition, theMagnalock® is unmatched in functional reliability. It releases everytime when switched off, as there is nothing to jam. Because of its self-aligning strike, it secures every time the door closes. Problems of stifflatches and misaligned bolts simply don’t exist.

Security. Electromechanical strikes and locks are positioned be-tween the door and frame. They can be successfully attacked with asaw, or by spreading the door from the frame with a lever. TheMagnalock® mounts on the other side of the door from an intruder. Theintruder must defeat the door itself to get at the lock.

And in addition, the holding force of the Magnalock® can be se-lected—by choosing the appropriate model—to exceed the strengthof the door. Mounting position of the Magnalock® at the top of the doorenhances security by allowing the door to flex during an impact at-tack. Extremely stiff doors, like those found in prisons, can benefit fromthe EASB Magnalock® accessory which creates a shock absorbing ef-fect (see Magnalock® options).

Safety. Magnalocks are often employed to secure doors that arealso emergency exit paths. In the event of a fire, it is vital for life safetythat the doors immediately release to permit evacuation. This is doneby routing the lock DC power through auxiliary contacts operated bythe building fire alarm system. When the fire alarm activates, power isremoved from all the locks. As there is nothing to jam, the Magnalocksrelease every time.

Installation Simplicity. The Magnalock® surface mounts usingonly a drill and allen wrench. There is no routing, mortising or carpen-try work needed. It also effortlessly handles all the unusual situationswhere electromechanical locks and strikes don’t work:

Narrow stile doors, double doors, roll-up doors, solid glass doors, badly fitting doors, swinging or sliding gates of all types. Bring them on!

“Smart” dual voltage. All Magnalock® models except Model 32automatically determine and adapt to 12 or 24 volt power by drawingthe correct amount of current. There is no possibility of mis-wiring.

MAGNALOCK® OPTIONS

SENSTAT: A LOCK THAT MONITORS ITSELFSecuritron’s patented Senstat option provides a lock status sens-

ing signal which positively indicates that the door is secure. This inter-faces with access control or alarm systems and is superior to the com-monly used door switch which indicates that the door is closed but notthat it is secure.

FULL LENGTH HOUSINGS

Magnalocks can be optionally furnished in full-length housingsto provide the ultimate in security and finished appearance. Housingsmay be selected in vertical or horizontal configurations with one or twolocks. The addition of the second lock is either for enhanced security,or for a double door. The completed installation provides unmatchedarchitectural appearance and vandal resistanceand security .

MAGNALOCK® OPTIONS

FACE MOUNT VERSION INSWINGING DOOR MOUNT

Standard Magnalocks aresuspended from the door frameso that the door swings awayfrom the magnet body, This isthe preferred mountingmethod, but if the door swingsinto the protected area, secu-rity considerations may dictatethat the lock is mounted on theinswinging side of the door. The“F” option provides for face

mounting on the header above the door. Mounting holes are drilledthrough the magnet face and the wire exit is to the rear. The Z-32/34/62and 82 bracket is normally used with “F” Magnalocks.

The Stop Filler Plate is used in installations where only part ofthe magnet body is on the stop. The plate extends the stop to provide aflat mounting surface for the magnet. Stop Filler Plates are 8” (Models32 and 62) or 12” long (Model 82) with a varying thickness to match thestop thickness. Thicknesses offered are: 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2” and 5/8” witha finish suffix of “CL” for clear anodized aluminum or “BK” for blackanodized aluminum.

The Glass Door Bracket permits Magnalock‚ installation on asolid glass door. The bracket is permanently glued to the glass via aspecial adhesive. The strike plate then screws into the bracket, as glassdoors cannot be drilled. The part numbers are: GDB (bracket) and AKG(adhesive kit).

Magnalock® Model 32FFace Mounted version.

CONDUIT FITTING OPTIONThe “G” option (available on the 62 and 82 series only) adds a

1/2" female-3/4" male universal conduit fitting to allow conduit wiringfor outdoor installations. The “G” version is also useful for surfacewired installations on concrete filled door frames. This avoids the costof drilling a wire way in the concrete.

DOUBLE MAGNET CONFIGURATION

RECESSED, CONCEALED MOUNTINGFor many applications—like sliding doors—only a totally invis-

ible finished appearance will do. Models 34R and SAM accomplish thejob with minimum installation hassle.

ENERGY ABSORBING HARDWARE OPTION

The EASB is specifically designedfor high security applications on stiffdoors (such as prison doors) where thedoor opens outwards into the protectedarea. This permits an impact attack (asopposed to pulling the door). When thedoor is quite rigid, the force of the impacttransmits well to the lock. The EASB re-places the standard sex bolt and includesa powerful internal spring which absorbs and dissipates the force ofthe blow, replicating Magnalock performance on a more flexible doorand preserving optimum security.

For double doors without a central mullion, the DM-62supplies two model 62 Magnalocks in a single brushed stainless steelhousing for the ultimate in architectural appeal. The 22" widehousing provides adequate lock separation for internal obstructionsoften found in double doors, and electrically, the two locks arecontrolled as one. Securitron’s Senstat lock status reporting option isalso available on the DM-62.

The Universal Header Bracket is used to extend a narrow header(often found on aluminum frame glass doors) to permit mounting of theMagnalock‚. The bracket is positioned either to extend 1” or 1-1/2” andalso serves to conceal the hookup cable within its hollow interior. ModelUHB works with Model 32, 34 or 62 series Magnalocks and the longerUHB-82 works with the Model 82. Both with a finish suffix of “CL” forclear anodized aluminum or “BK” for black anodized aluminum.

The Concrete/Wood Frame Bracket is used on concrete filled orwood door frames. On concrete frames, the bracket anchors to theframe via sheet metal screws and the magnet mounts to the bracket viamachine screws. The bracket includes a central splice area and avoidsthe problem of drilling a wireway through the concrete. On wood frames,4” wood screws are employed to penetrate deeply into the header.Separate part numbers are used for the Model 32, 62, and 82 seriesMagnalock‚ CWB-32, CWB-62, CWB-82 with a finish suffix of “CL” forclear anodized aluminum or “BK” for black anodized aluminum.

The Aluminum Frame Shim Bracket is for use with aluminumframe glass doors. The bracket spaces the magnet body down 1/2” toclear the blade stop and provides alternate mounting hardware for thestrike plate as with the magnet body spaced down, the standard sexbolt can interfere with the glass. The part numbers are ASB-32/62/82with a finish suffix, or “BK” for black anodized aluminum.

Dress Covers are separately available for the Model 32, 34, 62and 82 series Magnalock‚. They install in seconds using structural foamadhesive and perform three functions: The Cover improves the appear-

SAM THE SHEAR ALIGNING MAGNALOCK

Securitron’s revolutionary Shear Aligning Magnalock (SAM) per-mits concealed mounting in aluminum, wood and steel doors for theultimate in finished appearance. Both the magnet and the strike plateassembly take up only 1-1/2" (38 mm) width in the door and the doorframe which permits use on nearly all commercial doors. The SAM alsomaintains swing through operation on double acting doors and mayeven be employed on motorized bi-parting doors with a breakaway es-cape feature. The SAM holds a robust 1,000 pounds (455 Kg.) and yetdraws only four watts of power while operating on 12 or 24 volts DC(dual voltage). The SAM self-aligns into correct locking position as thedoor closes and therefore requires no door position sensing or auxil-iary timing circuitry. Its patented physical design (patent pending) elimi-nates any risk of partial locking and releases instantly without binding.Senstat lock status sensing, with SPDT output is available as an option.

OVERVIEW

SELF-ALIGNING OPERATIONThe SAM locks by seating two conical buttons located on oppo-

site corners of the strike plate into matching holes on each end of themagnet body. The height and shape of these buttons prevent the unitfrom engaging early as the door closes. Once the door is closed, thebuttons automatically drop into their matching holes to provide secu-

rity while maintaining unaltered appearance of the door and frame. When power is cut, the angled buttons “ramp” out of their holes forimmediate and total release of the door. The hole diameters are over-sized which forgives imprecise door alignment and accepts minor vari-ations in installation position. A unique benefit of the SAM’s physicaldesign is that it can function if the door swings to close or slides toclose: it operates bi-directionally. The SAM may also be mounted atthe top, side or bottom of the door without the need to purchase addi-tional bracketry or a different model.

The SAM ships with a full array of mounting brackets whichpermit installation in hollow steel, wood and aluminum doorswhich either finish flush or have recesses of 5/8” (11.7mm) to 1-15/16”(3.33 mm). There’s nothing else to buy. Installation requires preparinga rectangular cut-out and drilling holes for retrofit doors which havenot been prepared in advance. The same universal model may bemounted on the top, side or bottom of the door.

For specialty applications, the optional surface mount kit (part#SMLS for SAM magnet, or #SMSS for SAM strike) permits magnet, strike, or both to be surface mounted when mortising isn’t possible.

Basic operation of the UnLatch is the same as electric strikes.

Securitron’s patented UnLatch is a completely new type of elec-tric door releasing device which sweeps away the limitations inherentin traditional electric strike designs. The UnLatch screws into the ex-isting door frame in seconds. There is no need for routing a specialcut-out. This not only saves on installation labor, but maintains theoriginal strength and integrity of the door frame and yields a fully con-cealed installation for maximum esthetic appeal.

The UnLatch is highly universal in that one version will operateany North American cylindrical type dead latch or spring latch and in-stalls in wood, steel or aluminum door frames. Unlike conventionalelectric strikes, the UnLatch also releases under pressure and includesa latch status monitoring output as a standard feature. The UnLatchtruly merits being called revolutionary.

A Revolutionary Breakthrough In Access Control TechnologyUNLATCH® ELECTRONIC

STRIKE

OVERVIEW

HOW IT WORKS

An access device (such as a card reader or digital keypad) activates theUnLatch for controlled entry. Egress is accomplished by simply turning thelock set lever or knob from the inside.

Conventional electric strikes include a plate called the keeper or gatewhich is electrically released to swing out and thereby allows the latch tomove through the space the keeper has vacated. This keeper movement isthe reason why a special cut needs to be made in the door frame. The cut-out provides a space for the keeper to swing in to.

The UnLatch however uses a motor driven plunger to push the latchback in to the door. There is no keeper and no reason to route out the doorframe. For dead latches, a second plunger separately controls the deadlatch pin which is normally maintained in the retracted state for optimumsecurity. The dead latch plunger then releases the dead latch pin just be-fore the first plunger pushes in the spring latch to release the door. Whenthe door is reclosed, the UnLatch automatically re-secures it including re-establishing full dead latch security. The UnLatch’s unique and novel opera-tion yields an unprecedented array of benefits:

NEAR UNIVERSAL APPLICATIONA single UnLatch model will operate any North American cylin-

drical type spring latch or dead latch (the most common latch type). There is no need to determine the specific brand of latching hardware, the UnLatch accepts all of them. Similarly, the same UnLatch modelcan be installed on all door types: steel, aluminum or wood. Problemsof ending up with the wrong electric strike model for the door or latchtype are virtually eliminated. With the Model UFP, UnLatch Filler Plate, the UnLatch may generally be used to replace a previously installedconventional electric strike.

MECHANICAL INSTALLATION IN SECONDSNearly all North American commercial door frames employ an

ANSI 4-7/8” strike plate. The UnLatch is constructed around this stan-dard plate, so mechanical installation generally consists of unscrew-ing the existing strike, and screwing the UnLatch into its place! Con-ventional electric strikes require a side cut into the door frame to ac-commodate the keeper. This not only requires considerable skilled labortime but weakens the door frame and degrades its appearance.

The UnLatch can also be installed on frames with residentialtype ANSI 2-3/4” strikes. While this requires more work, it remains me-chanically much simpler than the installation of a conventional electricstrike, particularly on wood doors which are handled by simple chisel-ing.

FULL DEADLATCH SUPPORTConventional electric strikes work poorly and inconsistently with

dead latches. Locksmiths will often remove the dead latching functionfrom door hardware so as to avoid operational problems with the elec-tric strike. This seriously degrades security as the latch can be re-leased from the outside through use of a flexible card for instance.

In contrast, the UnLatch makes precise and active use of thedead latch pin and therefore maintains the dead latch function at alltimes. The security level in an UnLatch installation is therefore thehighest of which the door hardware is capable. Adding electronic con-trol to a door shouldn't reduce security and with the UnLatch, it doesn't.

OPENS UNDER PRESSURE; PERFORMSUNDER PRESSURE

The UnLatch reliably releases the door even when the personentering is already pulling on it. Standard electric strikes can’t do thisand it makes their use more awkward compared to the UnLatch, as the

UNLATCH

FULLY CONCEALED APPEARANCEThe prominent door frame side cut in a conventional electric

strike installation not only degrades the appearance of the door andframe, but it’s immediately obvious to an intruder that the door is se-cured with an electric strike. In contrast, an UnLatch installation isphysically indistinguishable from a standard mechanical lock set. Thisallows putting the door under electronic control without altering thearchitectural presentation in any way. This unprecedented benefit ofthe UnLatch also enhances security as intruders can’t determine howthe door is secured.

person entering has to "try" the door multiple times. Another powerfuladvantage of the UnLatch is its resistance to abuse. Conventional elec-tric strikes need frequent replacement in abusive door environmentsas the pivoting keeper receives the abuse and fails, but the rugged de-sign and construction of the UnLatch makes it highly resistant to abuse-caused failure as the door latch, when rattled, impacts a solid elementwithin the UnLatch. You can expect many years of trouble free opera-tion when you select the UnLatch.

4

Using an internal sensor, the UnLatch “knows” when the doorlatch is in the secure condition (the latch is seated within the UnLatch). This vital security information is reported out on SPDT dry contacts (threewire output). These contacts can be wired to the local alarm or ac-cess control system to significantly enhance building security. Any timea door fails to close and resecure, the alarm/access system is aware ofit and a guard can be dispatched to check the door and correct theproblem. The UnLatch becomes a key player in the building's physicalsecurity system as it catches propped doors, "sticking" doors, worn outdoor closers and improper behavior by individuals within the building. There are no loose ends in an UnLatch installation.

Typical installation on aluminum frame glass door with Model 62 Magnalock®,DK-26SS Digital Entry and TSB-3CL Touch Sense Bar.

OVERVIEW

On magnetically locked, non fire-rated doors, most buildingcodes require an exit device that does not require any special tools orknowledge. Securitron’s patented Touch Sense Bar is the perfect de-vice for this requirement. The simple act of touching the bar (eventhrough gloves or clothing) trips an electronic sensor which immedi-ately releases the lock.

The Touch Sense Bar is the ultimate in egress reliability andsafety. Having no moving parts, it does not suffer mechanical wearand no pressure is required for use which provides superior egresssafety for frail or disabled persons.

The model TSH, Touch Sense Handle is intended for use oninswinging doors or aluminum frame glass doors when a less obtrusiveappearance is desired.

The TSB-3 and TSH come complete with fastener sets allow-ing quick and strong installation on metal, aluminum-frame glass orwood doors of all types. A stainless steel door cord is supplied withboth products to route wiring (I6 ft. cable supplied) off to the door frame. The Touch Sense Bar is offered in three standard door opening widths(36", 42" and 48"). For a non-standard opening width, the TSB-3 can beeasily cut down in the field. The Model TCP accessory bracket aids theretrofit installation of the Touch Bar on aluminum doors by covering upmounting holes used by a Jackson or Dor-o-Matic mechanical bar whichmay have been previously mounted.

The Touch Sense Handle is sized to cover up existing mountingholes used for standard pulls on aluminum doors. It is employed to pullopen inswinging doors or as an alternate push-open device foroutswinging doors which provides a different look on aluminum frameglass doors. The Touch Sense Handle includes two legend plaqueswhich state PULL or PUSH or which may be reversed to show a black or

TSB/TSH SERIESMeets "No Tools or Knowledge" Code Requirements

INTEGRATION WITH ACCESS CONTROLMany applications call for controlled entry from the outside of

the door and free egress from the inside. Use of the Touch Bar or TouchHandle as the egress device makes this simple, safe and reliable. Theunits each have a double pole relay output. The NC contacts are wiredto directly break power to the magnetic lock when the unit is touched. The NO contacts connect to the REX (request to exit) terminals in theaccess system controller so that no alarm event is created during freeegress. Extra safety is achieved because in the event of a failure in theaccess control system, the Touch Bar or Touch Handle will still directlyrelease the lock. This “double break” approach is increasingly beingmandated in U.S. building codes.

Model TSH-BKmounted onan inswingingaluminumframe glassdoor.

While the Touch Bar and Handle feature no-moving-parts elec-tronic reliability, they go beyond by providing a second independentrelease circuit. A push button provides backup lock release function inthe event of any sensor failure. This fits into the modern safety engi-neering concept of eliminating the possibility of functional failure if anysingle device fails. It’s another example of the careful thought andconcern for user safety that has gone into Securitron’s design.

Securitron manufacturers a wide variety of exit pushbuttons forsecurity applications. All units are mechanical except for the uniqueSP-1 which employs touch sensing technology. The series featuresmounting on brushed stainless steel plates and includes an exit promptinstruction for each model. Hookup is from colored flying leads orlabeled screw terminals. These exit buttons are attractive, rugged, reliable and suitable for installation anywhere. The most common ap-plication is momentary or timed release of an electric lock. This maybe accomplished by direct hookup or by signaling the Request to Exit(REX) input of an access control system. Note that depending on thedoor and locality, it may require the use of an exit device that will re-lease the lock with one motion, such as Securitron’s Touch Sense Bar.Check with the local building or fire department.

The remarkable SP-1 uses patented Securitron touch sensingtechnology to create a push panel with no moving parts. It operateswith a simple touch — even through gloves. Use is quick and conven-ient and there is nothing to wear out or break off. In the field of pushcontrols, the SP-1 is the ultimate product.

The SP-1 includes an internal timer so that a brief touch willoperate the unit for up to 25 seconds. It features 1 Amp DPST contactsand has a mechanical redundant backup switch for extra reliability. Theunit is delivered complete with a brushed stainless steel face plate, surface mount plastic backbox and 16 ft. cable. Surface mounting isnecessary for touch sensing as the plate must be isolated from the wall. The unit is oversized so that it can be mounted over a single gang cut-out and mounting hole positions allow use of the standard female holesin a single gang cut-out. A three part vinyl decal is included to providethe appropriate prompt to the user and a red LED is incorporated in thebackbox which illuminates when the unit is touched. For ADA compli-ant systems, an optional decal with symbol is available (SP-1LH).

MOTION DETECTOREXIT PACKAGE

OVERVIEWSecuritron’s XM1 and XM1N are complete, UL listed, dual volt-

age integrated electronic egress packages designed to operate on amagnetically secured door while fully complying with US building codes(BNBC, SBC, UBC, NFPA) under the rules for Access Controlled EgressDoors. The XM-1 consists of Securitron’s model XMS egress motiondetector and the EEB2 integrated push button/timer. The EEB2 mountsin a single gang cut-out. The XM1N also includes the XMS motiondetector but substitutes the EEB3N integrated push button/timer whichmounts directly on a 1 3/4” narrow stile door frame.

Passive Infrared Request-To-Exit Functionality For Magnetic Locks

OPERATIONThe door is secured with a magnetic lock such as Securitron’s

Magnalock series or SAM shear lock. Typically, controlled entry fromthe outside is made possible via a device such as a card reader or dig-ital entry keypad such as Securitron’s DK-26. However, when the doorin question is part of the building egress path, safe and approved freeexit must be provided for individuals without requiring special tools orknowledge. With the XM1 package, the primary means of egress is theXMS egress motion detector. A person approaching the door is “seen”by the detector just before he reaches the door. The XMS automati-cally cuts power to the magnetic lock, allowing the individual to freely

exit without even realizing that the door is secured! For additional safety (as required by codes) in case of any pos-

sible malfunction with the detector, an integrated push button timer ismounted next to the door. Momentarily pressing the button will re-lease the door from a different circuit for 30 seconds (allowing indi-viduals following to use the door as well). The EEB2 or EEB3N units areretriggerable. Each time the button is pressed, the door stays releasedfor 30 seconds regardless of where it was in the release cycle at thetime the button was pressed.

MOTION DETECTOR EXIT PKG.

THE XMS: DESIGNEDFOR THE PURPOSE

The XMS is unique among curtain type motion detectors becauseit has been specifically configured to reliably release magnetic locksas opposed to detecting an intrusion. A number of XMS product fea-tures deliver this benefit.

• Operation is fail safe. Should the detector lose power, the lock willautomatically release.

19

Page 20: 2001 PRODUCT CATALOG and SUGGESTED RETAIL PRICING - Protect Locksmith · 2013-07-23 · lected—by choosing the appropriate model—to exceed the strength of the door. Mounting position

1-800-MAGLOCK (624-5625) • www.securitron.com

• Lock control switching is done by a heavy duty field effect transistorrather than by lower capacity relay contacts.

• The lock released state is maintained for a trailing four seconds afterdetection. This avoids the risk of relocking if the individual intending toexit pauses for a moment.

• A REX signaling relay is included which can be connected to the ac-cess control system to annunciate that someone is exiting and there-fore suppress an alarm event.

• The detection pattern can be precisely adjusted to suit the door envi-ronment so that detection of persons going past the door can be avoidedand security against unauthorized entry can be optimized.

• The unit will operate on any DC voltage between 12 and 28 v.

The two push button/timers respectively configured for singlegang (EEB2) or narrow stile (EE3BN) mounting, are fully integrated sothat you need only connect a power source (12 or 24 VDC) and the mag-netic lock to color coded wires. The retriggerable, 30 second codemandated timing function is automatically activated as is double breakcontrol of the magnetic lock for additional safety. Double break controlmeans that when the button is pressed, the button itself immediatelyand directly cuts power to the magnetic lock while at the same time aninternal timer controlled relay also cuts power to the magnetic lock ata second point in the circuit. Therefore, should the timed contacts failfor example, the button itself will still release the door. Finally, the but-ton surfaces are legended according to US code requirements to promptpersons as to the proper use of the door.

Input voltage: 12 or 24 VDC.Power draw: 20-50 mA, depending on switching status.Environment: Indoor use only.

KEYSWITCHES

OVERVIEW

A Full Range of Keyswitches for Electronic Security Control

DUAL SWITCH CAPABILITY

For State of

the Art Smart

Door Control!

Securitron’s family of keyswitches delivers broad control capa-bilities for diverse applications in electronic security. Keyswitches pro-vide an inexpensive and compatible method for authorized personnelto control or signal from various locations within the facility.

Numerous door control functions can be achieved such as mo-mentary, alternate or timed authorized use. Alarm points may be shuntedand devices such as CCTV cameras may be taken in and out of opera-tion. The broad extent of Securitron’s keyswitch line will allow you tofind the right product for any requirement.

MORTISE KEYSWITCH(MK SERIES)

One of the most importantcriteria in selecting a keyswitch iscompatibility with the keying sys-tem used on mechanical cylindersthroughout the facility. The MKseries is normally delivered with-out cylinder but will accept anyU.S. brand 1-1/4” or 1-1/8” mortisecylinder with any cam. The cylin-der is simply screwed into the MKon site and may be keyed as necessary. The MK also offers an impres-sive choice of configurations which furnish unmatched power and flex-ibility.

The basic unit is delivered on a brushed stainless steel singlegang or narrow stile face plate. Both standard and tamper screws arefurnished. It includes a spring-loaded momentary or push on/push offalternate 5 Amp SPDT switch (DPDT Optional). A red/green bicolorLED which operations on 12 or 24 VDC is also standard. The LED maybe connected as desired to prompt the operator. A cylinder (modelMKC) can be supplied as an option.

KEYSWITCHES

With the standard unit, the switch isactivated by turning the key in one directionand then turning it back for removal. The MKseries, however, includes the capability of add-ing a second switch which actives when thekey is turned in the opposite direction. You canachieve dual momentary, dual alternate or amomentary-alternate keyswitch. This permitsmany powerful applications. For instance, thesame keyswitch could momentarily release adoor for authorized use and activate an alarmpoint for the night.

The switches are individually mounted so the unit can be easilychanged or upgraded in the field. The all-steel construction of the switchelements means that long operating life is gained along with the MK’soutstanding flexibility.

MODEL KP1 SERIES

For less demanding applications, the KP1 series includes an in-tegrated cylinder/switch with 7 Amp SPDT contacts in momentary andalternate configurations. As with the MK, mounting on single gang ornarrow stile plate isavailable and all units in-clude the bicolor, dualvoltage LED. Multi-unitorders are deliveredkeyed alike and abackbox is includedwith the single gang ver-sions. The cylindersmay be re-keyed in thefield by a locksmith.

DK-26: HIGHER SECURITY,NARROW DESIGN ANDOUTDOOR USE

ADVANCED MULTIPLECODE STRUCTURE

FEATURES TO SUIT YOUR NEEDSThe DK-26 features a fully

waterproof design that canmount directly on a narrow stiledoor frame. For higher security, the DK-26 is delivered in twoparts. The keypad surfacemounts via hidden screws andthe CPU board mounts with steelenclosure inside the protectedarea (16 ft. cable furnished). Nomatter what a vandal may do tothe keypad itself (including sev-ering the cable), the door will notopen. The keypad is designed forlong life under demanding use. Itis constructed from cast stain-less steel with the switch ele-ments protected under toughEPDM rubber.

The DK-26 operates a 5Amp DPDT relay to switch anytype of fail-safe or fail-secureelectric lock (or strike). Releasetime is programmable from 1-99seconds. A beeper and threeLED’s provide feedback duringoperation and programming.Power for the DK-26 is 12 to 24volts, AC or DC. Typically thesame power source is used tooperate the lock which makesplanning the installation simplic-ity itself. You can even employ aninexpensive AC transformer tooperate a DC lock, as the DK-26will convert AC to DC and supplyit to the lock.

The DK-26 supports a 5-7digit Program code which is setinitially from a button on the CPUboard. Subsequent entry of thiscode allows programming up to

59 user codes (2-7 digits). With multiple user codes, individuals orgroups can be given their own code. When it’s necessary to change a codebecause an individual leaves, the otheremployees do not have to learn a newcode. Codes may be individually deletedand replaced.

Finally, a “hard code” can be setfrom the CPU board only. The hard codeis employed for lower security single codeoperation or for special uses such as a“masterkey” management code, a duress

When you order the DK-26, your only choice is finish: Satin Stain-less or Black. Everything else is standard, so there’s no need to puzzleout the exact version to suit each application. When you need a par-ticular function, it’s already there.

You can connect any normally open switch to the CPU board’sREX input to trigger the timed relay for either an exit switch or remoterelease button. You can convert the timed relay to alternate action (tog-gle mode) so that when the code is entered, the relay energizes anddeenergizes only when a valid code is entered a second time. For su-perior security, the DK-26 incorporates an internal alarm function. When16 wrong digits are pressed, the beeper sounds for 30 seconds and thekeypad is locked out.

The DK-26 also includes an SPDT programmable relay whosefunction is set by inputting a special two digit command. It is factoryset as an actual doorbell. (When the “Bell” key is pressed, it will ener-gize.) Alternate uses include: Sending a duress signal when the Hardcode instead of a User code is entered; an alarm signal when 16 wrongdigits are pressed; a door prop alarm signal if the door doesn’t reclosewithin a set time; or a nightlight function where the relay operates alamp (not furnished) when any key is touched. Input terminals allowyou to selectively disable the Hard code or all User codes to supportdifferent day/night access when an external timer is added.

You can purchase a second pad and operate two pads with oneCPU board for single-door digital entry and exit. Finally, an optional spyshield helps prevent someone viewing the code being entered. TheDK-26 truly does it all and our confidence in the product is backed bySecuritron’s MAGNACARE Lifetime Warranty.

The rugged and reliable keypads that are the heart of the DK-26,DK-16 and DK-11 series are also available in versions which outputWeigand 2601 data and therefore interface directly with any accesscontrol system that accepts this industry standard data protocol. WithSecuritron's Weigand units, you can easily add keypad controlled en-tries to an existing ornewly installed accesscontrol system or inmany cases you cancombine a keypad witha card reader to en-hance security by re-quiring authorized indi-viduals to possess both

DK-16

DK-11: SIMPLE YET POWERFULTHE DK-11 is a one piece unit intended for lower security re-

quirements. It is furnished on a single gang brushed stainless steelplate with retrofit backbox. The keypad provides true 10 digit opera-tion and includes red and green signaling LED’s. The unit runs on 12 or24 VDC power and control output is via an integral 5 Amp SPDT relayfor operating fail safe and fail secure locks. All wiring is to a terminalstrip found on the CPU board directly behind the plate. While primarilyintended for indoor operation, an optional rain cover allows reliableuse for exterior areas not exposed to direct rain. The pad itself is a U.S.made, high-volume unit with engraved, paint-filled keys.

POWER AND FLEXIBILITYThe DK-11 accepts a program

code and 4 user codes from 2 to 7 digitsso that different user groups can havetheir own code. Changing any user codeis easily done by entering the programcode (5 to 7 digits) first. Lock release timeis also programmed from the keypad from1-99 seconds. Selectable toggle mode en-ergizes the relay when a valid code is en-tered and deenergizes it when a code isentered again. The DK-11 also has a REX(request to exit) input. This allows an ex-ternal remote switch to trigger the unit justas if a code was entered. All codes arestored in non-volatile memory so that theyare retained in a power failure. Finally, an alarm function locks out thekeypad for 30 seconds after 16 wrong digits have been entered. TheDK-11 delivers amazing capability in a compact, inexpensive package.

The DK-11 and DK-16 keypads are providedwith both flush mount and surface mounted back boxes.

POWER TRANSFER DEVICES

OVERVIEW

ELECTRIC HINGES

For State ofthe Art SmartDoor Control! The installation of electric mortise locks which mount in the door

or electrified exit devices (including Securitron’s model TSB TouchSense Bar) require a method for electrical power to be routed from thedoor into the door frame. To reliably accomplish this, Securitron offersthree different product families with varying advantages and with dif-ferent versions within each family for individual requirements.

The electric hinge transfers power with the highest level of con-cealment. This aids security as a vandal won’t easily be able to accessthe wires and also produces the most esthetically pleasing installa-tion. Securitron offers two different electric hinge configurations whichsuit most North American hollow metal or wood doors: 4.5 x 4 inches(model EH-40) and 4.5 x 4.5 inches (model EH-45). These units are manu-factured by McKinney Hinge, Securitron’s sister company, entirely inthe US and to the highest possible quality standards. The material isstainless steel with a brushed finish. Each hinge carries five colorcoded conductors with 28 gauge wire which emerge from each side ofthe hinge in flying lead fashion.

The thinness of the wires is mandated by the limited physicalspace within the hinges and this does create a limit of 500 mA in cur-rent carrying capability. This current level is sufficient for signalingapplications to alarm systems and can comfortably operate any ofSecuritron’s Magnalocks (in an application where a switched exit de-vice is releasing the Magnalock from the inside) but will not operate

many electric locks made by others. Be sure you check the amount ofcurrent that your circuit will draw before selecting an electric hinge.

Choosing between the two models is a matter of determiningwhich hinge size is already present in the door (by measuring). It is notpractical to try to install an electric hinge in a space occupied by adifferent size hinge. Note also that aluminum (storefront) type doors donot employ conventional butt hinges at all, but open on pivots.Securitron’s other power transfer devices are appropriate for suchdoors.

TSB-CArmoredDoor Cord

OVERVIEW

This unique, patented device is manufactured by Abloy,Securitron’s sister company. It installs in the door and frame edges, sothat its presence is concealed when the door is closed, thus maintain-ing good security and esthetic appeal. Two models are available: theEPT and EPTL. The EPT is suitable for most doors; the EPTL is requiredwhen the gap between the door and frame edges is large (see draw-ings at right). When compared to the electric hinge, the EPT series ismore economical to purchase, but does require more labor for installa-tion (a long slot must be routed in the door edge).

A particular advantage of the EPT is that it accepts a thick cableand protects it within a flexible steel shield. The interior diameter of theshield is a generous 5/16” (8 mm) which will support interior wire ca-bles up to .25” (6 mm) thick. This means that the EPT is suitable for

The simplest and most economical solution for power transferis Securitron’s surface mounted door cord. This unit is furnished withSecuritron’s Touch Sense Bar but may also be purchased separately(part #TSB-C). The cord consists of an 18” (46 cm) length of armored

stainless steel cable together with plasticend pieces. 3/8” (9.5 mm) holes are drilledin the face of the door and frame to admitthe cord and the end pieces are screweddown over the holes to create a neat, fin-ished appearance. The door cord comesfurnished with end piece sets in twocolors: light gray and black. This allowsselection of end piece color so as to blendinto the door/frame color as much as pos-sible.

The ample 18” cord length allowsuse on any type of door, including centerpivot doors and doors that open well past900. The TSB-C cable has an interior di-ameter of .25” (6 mm) which will support

interior wire cables up to .2” (5 mm) thick. This permits employing thickenough wiring for most high current applications. Compared to the Elec-tric Hinge and Electric Power Transfer, however, the door cord is morevulnerable to vandalism and is visible on the door.

applications where relatively large current is required (such as operat-ing many brands of electric mortise locks). The EPT is also a near uni-versal device as it will work on any sort of door hung with butt hinges, continuous hinge or pivots. It will not function on a center pivot dooras the gap between the door and frame edges becomes too great whenthe door opens.

POWER SOURCESReady-To-Install Power Supplies and Power Accessories

OVERVIEWSecuritron manufactures a variety of outstanding products de-

signed to supply and monitor 12 or 24 Volts for the operation of securityand safety equipment. The BPS Series DC Power Supplies include bat-tery charging capability with capacities from one to 15 Amps. The BACSSeries provides high capacity 12 and 24 volts AC power. The modelPSM Power Supply Monitor functions as an alarm system for your BPSseries supply and our plug-in DC supplies and potted bridge rectifier fitinto simpler applications.

BPS SERIES: CLASS 2 WITH OR WITHOUT BATTERIESAll models are UL listed and incorporate integral battery charg-

ing capability which keeps the sealed lead acid gel/cell at full chargefor instantaneous stand-by power in case of line voltage failure. Allmodels in the series are Class 2 rated by UL which means that outputwiring need not be run in conduit. The BPS-12-1 and BPS-24-1 are oneamp units that incorporate a fused AC input and a regulated DC output.A 2.5 Amp current limiting automatic breaker protects the stand-bybatteries from driving into a short

The multi-featured CCS board allows easy hook-up and control for the BPS series 2 amp or greater power supplies.

circuit. Plus, in the event of a DC short, the supply’s regulator will gointo thermal cut-off, switching off the output. The power supply enclo-sure is sized large enough to include at least two optional four amp-hour batteries and the unit can charge up to a 20 AH pack (batteriesmounted externally).

BPS SERIES WITH CCS CONTROL MODULEFor larger applications and installations where multiple devices

are being powered, Securitron offers the higher-amperage BPS PowerSupply Series with integral CCS-4 or CCS-8 Power Control Module. TheCCS board provides a fused line voltage input and four or eight DC out-puts on separate UL Class 2 Listed current limited automatic circuitbreakers. Each circuit can be individually turned on and off via a slideswitch and the powered status of each is shown by an LED. There is noneed for extra AC wiring of additional dedicated supplies in a multiplezone device installation and in the event of a DC short, the problem isconfined to the zone in difficulty. The BPS continues to power all otherstations, uninterrupted by the faulty component. An LED indicator lighton the front cover illuminates when the power supply module is in op-eration and the unit will charge up to 20 AH battery packs (for largerpacks, consult the factory).

ADDING ADDITIONAL CLASS 2 OUTPUTS ANDFIRE ALARM INTERFACE

While BPS series supplies are delivered with four or eight out-puts depending on the model, the CCB-8 “slave” board may be option-ally ordered to add eight additional Class 2 outputs. The more boardsyou add, the more outputs become available. Also, for added safety, the CCS-8 module has emergency release terminals. These can bebroken by an external switch opening such as a relay controlled by thefire alarm system. This will automatically release all the devices beingdriven by the supply.

For critical applications, Securitron offers the remarkable PowerSupply Monitor as an accessory for its larger DC supplies. Available in

12 or 24 volt versions, the PSM can operatewith all BPS series supplies with capacitiesof 2 Amps or more. The Power Supply Moni-tor functions as an alarm system for the sup-ply as it monitors all key functions and re-ports any trouble.

The output voltage is continuously read toinsure that it remains within tight limits whichare necessary for proper float charging ofthe battery pack. A high or low variance isseparately signaled by audio/visual latchingalarms at the PSM enclosure and simulta-neous dry contact switching for remote no-tification.

The PSM also checks the battery pack bytaking it off charge three times a day and sub-jecting it to an extended load test. Failure isreported so that the pack may be replaced

and naturally, the test is immediately terminated in the event of an ac-tual power failure so that the load will continue to operate.

Another important PSM report is whenever the batteries haveswitched in to the load. This provides vital warning that the load willcontinue to operate for only the standby duration of the pack. The bat-teries will switch in not only from an obvious facility power failure, butfrom a local AC breaker trip or a failure of the DC output of the supply. The PSM report always keeps your system working.

PM SERIES: AN ECONOMY POWER SOLUTION WITHBATTERY BACKUP

Securitron's PM-12 and PM-24 power supplies are similar to theBPS-12-1 and BPS-24-1 units except they employ separate plug-in trans-formers which interconnect with a circuit board housed in a steel en-closure. Since the transformer plugs into a wall socket, installation doesnot require the services of an electrician. The PM units also featureregulated, adjustable power with integral sealed lead acid/gel cell bat-tery charging capability while meeting Class 2 electrical requirements.

THE UL LISTED BACS SERIES: HIGH CAPACITYAND MULTI-ZONE

Primarily intended for powering CCTV cameras, Securitron’sBACS-12-20 supplies 20 Amps of 12 VAC power and the model BACS-

24-10 supplies 10 Amps of 24 VAC power. The BACS series employs thesame multiple zone control concept as the BPS series as it includesnearly identical control boards (part number CCS-8A), which provideeight automatically breakered outputs with individual control switchesand LED’s. As with the BPS series, additional “slave” boards may beordered to add eight extra zones (part number CCB-8A).

SIMPLE, UL LISTED DCPOWER: PLUG-IN DCFILTERED SUPPLY

We offer these hard-to-findDC units in two versions: 12 volts @700 mA maximum capacity (modelPSP-12) and 24 volts @ 350 mA maxi-mum capacity (model PSP-24). Theyfeature an internal thermal fuse andare UL and CSA listed. A 16 ft. out-put cable is included. They are idealfor powering a wide range of DC de-vices.

AC POWER SOLUTIONS: BRIDGE RECTIFIERThe model BR-7 bridge rectifier will convert an AC input, like our

TP Series transformer, tofull wave rectified DC out-put with a maximum 7 Ampcapacity. It’s manufac-tured in a 1” cube pottedpackage with 18” colorcoded flying leads. Thisfull insulation allows it tobe field wired between atransformer and DC loaddevice without concernfor short circuits.

TIMERS, ETC.

OVERVIEW

A Wide Variety of Timers and Logic Boards to Enhance Any Application

EXIT

DELAY

TIMERS

XDT-12 & XDT-24

Securitron manufactures an outstanding line-up of accessorytimers and logic boards with the features you need to complete or en-hance security installations. Circuit boards are supplied with plasticsnap-trak for mounting or are furnished in a plastic enclosure. The prod-ucts offered have all been designed by Securitron in response to realworld problems and they have the features required by our industry.

TIMEMATE MODEL TM9The TimeMate, Model TM9 is an ul-

tra-miniature timer that functions to extendmomentary switch closures (N/O) up to 36seconds. It is commonly used in outletboxes with keyswitches or push button con-trols solving the problem of “where to putthe timer”. The TimeMate either fits in thebox or can be mounted on the exterior withsupplied double stick tape. When theswitch is operated, the TimeMate’s 3 AmpSPDT relay energizes for 2 to 36 secondsafter which it resets. The time setting isprecisely selected by a bank of dipswitchesrather than by a pot. Common applicationsinclude releasing electric locks and shunt-ing alarm points. The TimeMate operates on 12 VDC, 24 VDC or 24 VACpower. Actual size: 3/4" x 1" x 2"

This microprocessor timer allows full compliance with NFPA 101,UBC, BOCA, SBC and Canadian building codes for delayed exit. In gen-eral, delayed exit function is as follows: When an initiate switch in anexit bar or push button closes, an optional nuisance delay up to 3 sec-onds operates, during which the board signals the alarm. If the initiateswitch is released before the nuisance delay expires, nothing furtherhappens. If not, the board goes into irrevocable release delay. The failsafe lock releases at the end of a 15 or 30 second release delay period. It then must be relocked from an external NC switch.

The XDT also has powerful selectable modes which allow it tomeet specific and detailed differences in each code. It also integrateswith access control by providing non-alarmed entry delay, lock statusmonitoring and the ability to set door operation into any of four differentmodes from an external switch or time clock. It is available in separate12 and 24 VDC versions.

The XDT is also available in a 6" x 6" lockable steel enclosure(BA-XDT, 12 or 24), or a flush-mount enclosure with an 8" x 8" stainlesssteel plate (FA-XDT). Both are prewired with audible alarm. Actual boardsize: 3 1/4" x 4 1/4"

TIMEMASTER MODEL TM-2The TimeMaster is an indus-

trial quality multi-function timerwith a unique array of features. Itoperates on 12 or 24 volts AC or DCand has a 5 Amp DPDT relay output.Dip switches select exact delaytimes of 1 to 255 seconds or 1 to 255minutes.

Seven operating modes can be chosen: On delay (timer is pow-ered; relay energizes after delay and resets when the timer isunpowered); Triggered on delay (same operation started from externalswitch); Off delay (timer is triggered; relay energizes immediately andresets after delay); One shot (non-retriggerable off delay); Toggle (trig-ger closure energizes relay; next closure reset etc.); Cyclic (relay cy-cles on and off at time interval set); and Pulse output (relay pulses for 1/4 second as external switch changes state). Triggering can be from anN/O or N/C switch, and finally the TimeMaster includes a unique flash-ing LED drive output which steadily increases in frequency as the unittimes out, providing visual indication of the time remaining.

Actual size: 3” x 4”.

PRIME TIME MODEL DT-7 The Prime Time digital 7-day

timer is used to turn electric locksor other security systems on and offat programmed times. A 10-ampDPDT relay can be operated in tog-gle or pulse mode at selectable

times during the week, with 12 programmed on/off times set daily, onselected days, or on blocks of days (Mon - Fri, Mon - Sat or Sat - Sun). The exclusive “First Man In” feature delays operation until an externalswitch changes state which automates holiday programming in manyapplications.

The Prime Time operates on 12-24 volts AC or DC. An AA cellprovides five year backup to the display module program memory.

Actual size: 7” x 3”.

DOOR PROP ALARM DPA-12 & DPA-24The Door Prop Alarm is a multi-

functional control timer that operatesas a sophisticated door prop alarmwith options that permit the flexibil-ity to meet specific requirements ofend user. The DPA not only monitorswhether the door has been“propped” open, but when used withthe Senstat feature of the Magnalock

and a door position switch it can detect any attempts to tamper withlock status or door status.

The Door Prop Alarm comes equipped with three separate out-puts which can provide local and remote signaling based on a userselectable time interval. Other features include a bypass mode for validaccess/egress needs as well as a duress alarm function when usedwith a N/O switch.

It is available in separate 12 and 24 VDC versions. Actual boardsize: 3-1/4’ x 4-1/4”. Overall size in box: 5-5/8” x 5-1/2” x 2-7/8”.

All Electronic Boards aremounted on snap track for

mounting ease. The XDT and isavailable in a locking enclosure

with audible alarm.

RELAY BOARD RB-4-12& RB-4-24

Relay Boards are a simple and economi-cal way to add relays to installations for numer-ous uses including shunting, interlocking and re-porting.

Each board mounts 4 DPDT relays with 1Amp contacts. All dry contact connections are brought out on screwterminals. Individual coil connections can be common negative or posi-tive. The relays selected have extremely low current coils (15 mA at 12VDC; 8 mA at 24 VDC) allowing operation from most LED drive outputs. The RB-4 replaces expensive and cumbersome socket mount relaysand permits a much more attractive installation than installing individualrelays with double stick tape.

Actual size: 3” x 3-3/4”.

RELAY LOGIC PACK RLP-12 & RLP-24Packaged in an ultra-miniature plastic case, the RLP is a multi-

function circuit pack. Its primary use is to allow integration of lock sta-tus sensing outputs (such as from Securitron’s Senstat versionMagnalock) with access control systems that require N/O or N/C drystatus signals coupled with a delay before lock status changes state.Without the delay the access control system would alarm every timethe door is used because of the immediate change in lock status. Theaddition of the RLP solves these problems. It can also be used to createa relay interlock circuit, an inter-locked trap entry (when coupled with2 electric locks), and can function as a DPDT relay, with one Amp con-tacts.

The relay logic pack is available in separate 12 and 24 VDC ver-sions.

INDUSTRIAL CABINET LOCKS

OVERVIEW

Securitron offers state of the art, compact electric locks for con-trol of cabinets and other industrial openings. The MCL-24 is a mini-ature electromagnetic lock which despite its size, delivers a remark-able holding force of 200 lbs (90 Kg). The even smaller SCL-24 is a sole-noid bolt lock with a holding force of 600 lbs (275 Kg). Typical applica-tions for these locks include: jewelry cases, museum cases, gun cabi-nets, pharmaceutical storage cabinets, cash drawers and any sort ofdoor or drawer which will physically accommodate either lock.

Securitron is the world leader in electromagnetic locks and thegrowing popularity of this type of lock stems from a series of intrinsicbenefits:

• Electromagnetic locks have no moving parts and an unlimitedoperating life

• Because the door is not mechanically blocked, there is no pos-sibility of jamming on release

• The lock self-aligns to operate reliably even when the doordoesn’t fit well

• Securitron’s waterproof designs operateindoors or outside in any environment

• True fail safe operation always releases when power is re-moved

The MCL-24 brings these benefits to industrialcabinet control.

ROBUST PERFORMANCEDESPITE COMPACT SIZE

With a size of only 4.6” x .75” x 1.14” (117 x 19 x 29 mm), the MCLadapts to a wide variety of cabinet locking applications. The strikeplate mounts on the moving door or drawer and the electromagnet bodymounts on the fixed frame. A universal bracket is supplied which canbe affixed to either the magnet or strike plate for maximum mountingflexibility. The simple act of closing the cabinet brings the strike plateand magnet body together and secures the cabinet with 200 poundsholding force while operating on 24 volts DC and drawing a miniscule1.5 watts of power (62 mA). Operation of the Magnalock is silent and itcan be controlled by virtually any sort of switching device including adigital keypad, card reader, remote control switch or keyswitch.

FLEXIBLE MOUNTING; FAIL SECURE OPERATIONThe SCL easily adapts to an array of mounting possibilities as

the keeper can enter the lock body in any of three positions. Cabinetswith doors that swing open can be accommodated as can pull-out orsliding drawers. And for retrofit applications the SCL-T installation toolmakes setting the mounting holes a breeze.

The SCL-24 is a fail secure device (it receives power to releasethe door) and it draws 200 mA when it is activated. A fail secure lockdraws no current at all in the “normal” (secure) condition which meansthat a relatively small power supply can operate a large number ofSCL’s. It is an intermittent duty lock which should only be used whenthe cabinet is to be released only for a few seconds to gain accessrather than for lengthy periods of time.

PRODUCT SELECTION ISSUESThe MCL-24 must be chosen for applications requiring continu-

ous duty (the cabinet is released for extended periods of time), or foroperation in outdoor environmental conditions. It is preferred for ap-plications where operational reliability is critical (jamming is impossi-ble with electromagnetic locking) or where the daily volume of open-ings is high.

The SCL-24 is preferred for applications in the most limited spaceas well as those which demand the highest physical security. It is alsomore economical to purchase but it does not support outdoor use oruse where the cabinet will be released for extended periods of time.

The SCL-24 is a fail secure solenoid lock which fits into the mostsize limited applications (the lock body measures 1 1/16” x 1 1/8” x 2 5/8” or 27 x 28.5 x 66 mm). The lock body mounts on the fixed frame andthe keeper mounts on the moving door or drawer. Despite its high de-gree of miniaturization, the SCL-24 holds an amazing 600 lbs (275 Kg)which provides a strong level of security for cabinet locking applica-tions. In most installations, fastener strength is breached before thelock is defeated.

MAXIMUM SECURITY SWITCHA New Standard In High Security

OVERVIEW

Securitron’s Maximum Security Switch (MSS) represents theultimate in position monitoring devices. It is used to monitor the open/closed status of doors, windows, gates, machinery safety barriers orother moving assemblies where either high security and/or safety arerequired. The high security balanced magnetic switch provides supe-rior defeat resistance, easy, accurate installation, false alarm reduc-tion and versatile indoor-outdoor application. The compact design isesthetically pleasing when installed. The optional remote test featureinsures the operational integrity of each individual switch. The MSS isavailable with a jacketed cable for hidden routing throughout the frameor with stainless steel cable for a surface run installation. The MSSseries is UL listed as a high security switch with indoor/outdoor rating, complies with DCID’s, and has been accepted by DIA for use withinSCIF’s.

UNMATCHED DEFEAT RESISTANCE

All high security switches strongly resist defeat with a singleexternal magnet but may be vulnerable to more sophisticated attacksincluding physical removal of the switch module from the frame, physi-cal removal of the magnet pack from the door, or acquisition of a sec-ond magnet pack which is then placed near the switch module whilethe door is opened.

To defend against switch module removal, the MSS incorporatesa hidden, normally closed tamper switch. An attempt to remove theswitch module will result in an alarm. The tamper output can be sepa-rately monitored or connected in series with main switch output.

Removal of the magnet pack from the door is a more seriousthreat. Since the magnet pack is not wired, it cannot be monitored. Toovercome this, the MSS utilizes co-planar operation. This requires thatthe magnet pack be in the same narrow read angle plane as the switchmodule. This restriction, coupled with the MSS’s unique mountingmethod on both outswinging and inswinging doors, makes it virtually

impossible to remove the magnet pack from the door without signalingan alarm

If a second Securitron magnet pack is obtained, it cannot beemployed to defeat the MSS for two reasons. Co-planar operationmeans that the switch module can only read one magnet pack at a timeand we have built in an additional defense: MSS switch modules andmagnet packs are matched pairs. By altering polarities, we are able tomake only certain switch modules and magnet packs operate with eachother. A criminal attempting to defeat the MSS will not know if he has acompatible magnet pack, as the polarities are not marked.

QUICK AND RELIABLE INSTALLATION

Other high security magnetic switches perform differentlymounted on steel than on wood or aluminum, but the MSS is 100% mag-netically shielded so it operates the same way on all surfaces. Thisallows us to supply an installation template with exact optimum sepa-ration distance so that as each MSS is mounted, you will know it iscentered within its operating gap for the lowest chance of false alarms. It is not necessary to pre-check with an Ohmmeter in the field.

The MSS is supplied in two versions for different installation en-vironments. For use on a door with hollow frame, the MSS-1 provides ajacketed cable, which is hidden in the doorframe. This provides opti-mum appearance and security. For monitoring other types of openings,or where the cable cannot be hidden in the doorframe, the MSS-1Gincludes a 3-foot length of stainless steel armor to protect the cable ina surface run.

BEST APPEARANCE

The MSS is more compact than competitive units and its mount-ing method has been laid out such that it installs unobtrusively onoutswinging or inswinging doors without the need for external brack-ets and with the cable hidden. This also naturally maintains a strongerdefense against tampering or removal. Note the cross section drawingto appreciate this benefit.

REMOTE TEST OPTION

A building with many monitored openings must be assured thateach switch is functioning. In certain high security installations, test-ing each switch is a procedural mandate. With Securitron’s remotetest option, this is done electronically from a central point rather thanby opening each door.

The MSS uses a unique two step test on a three-wire circuit.Voltage is sent first to input #1 of all switches. If all switches go intoalarm, the test is passed. Next, power is sent to input #2 and again, allswitches must go into alarm. If a switch fails to alarm on both tests, it iscompletely non-functional probably due to tampering. A subtler defectis if a switch fails to go into alarm on one of the two tests. Part of itsinternal circuitry has failed so it is only operating as a standard lowsecurity switch and could be compromised.

LATCH / BOLT MONITOR

LATCH / BOLT MONITORMonitor Actual Latch Or Bolt Status, Not Just A Closed Door!

OVERVIEW

By electronically verifying mechanical latch and bolt positions,Securitron LM Series latch monitors detect and report to the buildingalarm or access control system that a door is actually latched or bolted, not just closed. They install easily, are concealed behind existing hard-ware, and require no jamb or strikeplate modification.

Three models in two sizes accept all North American latches orbolts. The innovative patented design automatically copes with varia-tions between different brands of latching hardware without requiringinstaller adjustments. The LMS-1 includes a single SPDT switch andfits any standard 2 3/4" ANSI cut-out. The LML-1 also has a single SPDTswitch and fits any standard 4 7/8" ANSI cut-out. The LML-2 monitors amortise latch and deadbolt separately, features two separate SPDTswitches, and fits any standard 4 7/8" ANSI cut-out.

When monitoring hook or swing bolts, conventional magneticcontacts report a door as simply closed, without confirmation that it’ssecure. The deadlock monitor model LMD-1 can be used with an AdamsRite MS type deadlock or similar brand to report the locked or unlockedstatus of narrow stile aluminum frame doors, including sliding glassdoors. And the LMD-1 installs quickly in door frame stiles without rout-ing—just three holes to drill!

The primary value of the Latch Monitor family is to deliver highersecurity through reporting the latched or bolted status of doors with abuilding, rather than merely reporting that they are closed—or nearlyclosed. The operating gaps associated with magnetic contacts make

COMMON APPLICATIONS

False alarms are not only embarassing to a system owner, butare also costly when police departments levy false alarm fines aimedat reducing the waste of law enforcement resources. An importantcause of false alarm occurs when an armed system reports a nearlyclosed but unlatched or unbolted door as secure. The door subsequentlyswings open from the wind or is moved by an individual without crimi-nal intent, and police are erroneously dispatched.

Using a Latch Monitor completely eliminates this kind of prob-lem. And for many installations, Latch Monitors are inexpensive enoughto be employed in all the doors—or alternately—they can be selectedfor those critical openings most subject to this type of false alarm event.

FIGHT FALSE ALARMS!

39

them report secure even when a door is not latched, so long as it is almostclosed. Securitron's Latch Monitor series eliminates this weakness with asimple, reliable and universal design.

Retail stores provide a particularly pertinent example of the latchmonitor's value. Larger shops will have numerous aluminum frame glass(storefront) doors leading outside. At closing time it's all too easy for a clerkto forget to lock down one of these doors prior to arming the alarm systemand leaving. This condition invites quick entry and theft, or a false alarmevent when wind pushes the door partially open. Use of the LMD-1 insuresthat all doors are locked, or the system will not arm.

A secondary use of the latch monitor is to initiate delayed exit whenan interior latch is withdrawn on a door equipped with a Magnalock andSecuritron's model XDT logic timer.

For Metal Door Frames: Metal frames may require minimal filingor tab removal in some cases.

LMD-1 Installation in Aluminum Frames: Drill one, central 9/16"(15MM) hole, and two 1/8" (3mm) holes. Drive rivets are supplied whichseat the unit flush to the frame with only a hammer tap.

Note that each unit is furnished with a 6’ (2m) jacketed cable sothat splicing need never be done within the door frame.

AS PART OF EXIT DELAYLatch Monitors are an integral part of any complete Magnalock

Exit Delay system.

Where mortise hardware is present, wiring to the strike is ac-cessible and tampering is a minor concern, an LM series latch monitoris ideal for delay initiation. Mounted right behind the strike, it operatesby detecting latch withdrawal during an exit attempt.

LOCK CONTROL PANELS

OVERVIEW

UL Listed Central Control and Monitoring for Any Electric Lock

PANEL CONFIGURATIONS

The LCP Series panel is designed to operate any DC electriclock or strike that operates on 12 or 24 volts (fail safe or fail secure.)Other electric locks can be accommodated by adding relays. The panelis constructed of control zones supplied in multiples of four.

A single multi-color monitoring LED per zone displays four pos-sible conditions of the lock: Green shows that the zone is secure andthis condition may be driven from a door switch, lock status switch orthe power status of the lock. "Off" shows that the lock has been “le-gally” released from either the panel control switch or from a remoteswitch at the door. In this condition, the toggle switch itself illuminatesyellow. Red is the alarm condition showing that a lock which should besecure is not reporting secure. This condition is latching and is resetfrom a momentary switch once the zone has been resecured. A Sonalertaccompanies the red “violation” condition. Orange shows that the zonehas been resecured and is ready for alarm reset. After reset, the indi-cator turns green again.

The LCP is delivered standard in a slope front desk mount con-sole. A maximum of 24 zones can be installed on the largest console. Ifmore zones are needed, multiple consoles are supplied. Optionally, thepanel can be supplied in a NEMA 1 hinged wall mount enclosure with

EASY INSTALLATIONThree to six wires run from the panel to each door depending on

the complexity of the equipment used at the door. All wires terminateto identified screw terminals in the panel. A comprehensive manual issupplied with the product which shows hookup drawings for the fullrange of possible door control functions. No guesswork or circuit de-sign is required from the installer.

key lock, in a flush plate with knockout equipped back box, or in a 19”rack mount face plate. The size of the enclosure or plate depends onthe number of zones ordered.

DOOR MONITORING

The LCP also finds use as a door monitoring panel when electriclocks are not installed. The control switch in this use arms or disarmsthe monitored zone. With the switch on (armed), the indicator will showgreen when the door is closed and will show a latching red conditionaccompanied by the Sonalert when the door is opened. With the switchoff (disarmed), the indicator will be off regardless of door position. On acustom basis, the LCP panel can be supplied with indicator lights only(no control switches.)

SYSTEM OPTIONS

SPECIFICATIONS

A range of options expand the functions of the panel. Optionswith an asterisk (*) may be generally added in the field if they were notordered with the panel.

SILENCE LATCH*(OPTION “SLR”)

This option adds a momentary illuminated button which is usedto silence the Sonalert only after it has sounded. When the Sonalerthas been silenced the button illuminates and a built-in reminder tone isemitted. Once the alarm condition is cleared, the silence function au-tomatically resets so that Sonalert will sound again for the next alarmevent.

EMERGENCY RELEASE*(OPTION “ER”)

This option adds an alternate action illuminated button which, when pressed, illuminates and immediately releases all locks. Press-ing the button again restores power to the locks. This option is usedonly with fail safe locks.

ADDITIONAL MONITORING LIGHTS(OPTION “AM”)

This option adds a second LED (yellow) to each control zone. The LED illuminates from an external closure or voltage input and atthe same time, a pulsing Sonalert sounds. The most common use forthis option is to annunciate the start of exit delay for a fail safe lock inthe NFPA 101 delayed exit installation. Other conditions, depending onthe specific job, can also use this capability.

SWITCH BYPASS KEYSWITCH*(OPTION “KB1” OR “KB2”)

The bypass keyswitch, when turned off, secures all zones andshunts out the control switches and emergency release button (if onehas been supplied) so that the panel may be left unattended for a time. This option yields a Mortise cylinder type keyswitch with cylinder sup-plied. The suffix “1” is wired for fail safe locks. The suffix “2” is wiredfor fail secure locks.

MOMENTARY CONTROL SWITCHES(OPTION “MOM”)

This option changes the lock control toggle switches from alter-nate (standard) to spring loaded momentary. It is used if the installa-tion permits only momentary release of a lock from the panel. (Momen-tary switches are not illuminated.)

HIGH VOLUME USE(OPTION “HT”)

The standard toggle switches are limited in life to about 30,000operations. This is more than adequate for most installations wherethe panel switches are used sporadically but for high volume use, wesuggest push button switches, with a life of about 200,000 operations.

EXIT DELAY SYSTEMSConfigure A Flexible, Modular, UL Listed Exit Control System That Exceeds All Code Requirements!

System components sold separately.

Exit delay systems secure exterior doors electronically while per-mitting routine, delayed egress from within. They fully comply with NFPALife Safety Code 101 and all US/Canada model codes. A standard 15 or30 second delay is offered, providing sufficient time for alerting person-nel to a breach of safety or security.

Exit delay systems are used to fight risk of loss by theft. Typicalinstallation sites include retail stores, museums, libraries, computer andbusiness technology centers. Without exit delay protection, a thief canmove stolen goods through a nearby exit door, escaping undetectedbefore countermeasures are taken. But exit delay forces a thief to waitby the door, enduring a 15 or 30 second alarm blast, sufficient time forhis apprehension.

Hospitals and nursing homes responsible for patient safety em-ploy exit delay in denying egress to individuals under their supervision.Attempts at unauthorized exit by those suffering Alzheimer’s, psycho-sis or disorientation are easily checked by an exit delay period, cancelingsignificant liability threat from patient endangerment.

Securitron exit delay systems are compatible with all accesscontrol equipment, and include powerful door control features that ex-ceed code minimums, rendering unparalleled levels of security, safety

When access control is not required, we recommend our pat-ented MXD door movement exit delay package. The MXD’s attractivestainless steel housing conceals proximity sensing switches togetherwith any standard Magnalock (sold separately). Initiation occurs whenthe door is pushed roughly an inch—permitted by MXD’s exclusivespring-loaded sex bolt—but the door still remains locked. MXD instal-lation requires no alteration or replacement of existing fire rated ornon-fire rated latching hardware. Best of all, false triggering is elimi-nated by the ample 1 inch door movement. And fully sealed construc-tion makes the MXD virtually tamper proof!

THE INITIATION DEVICE: KEY TO SYSTEM ACTIVATIONSecuritron offers a range of devices to initiate exit delay. To

select one that’s appropriate, first determine if your system will includeelectronic access control.

LM SERIES LATCH MONITOR

When an application includes electronic access control on anymagnetically locked, non-fire rated door where latching is not requiredby code, we recommend Securitron’s Touch Sense Bar, model TSB-3.The TSB-3 operates electronically by detecting touch—even throughgloves—and includes a redundant, manual backup button switch foradded safety. The TSB-3 features a sleek, clear or black aluminum fin-ish, and the reliability of no moving parts.

For fire rated doors, we employ switch equipped panic bars withappropriate entry trim. Mortise, vertical rod or rim latching is avail-able, as are a variety of finishes.

THE AMAZINGTOUCH SENSEBAR

Where mortise hardware is present, wiring to the strike is ac-cessible and tampering is a minor concern, we offer the LM series latchmonitor for initiation. The latch monitor mounts behind the strike in thejamb and initiates delay by detecting latch withdrawal during an exitattempt.

EXIT DELAY LOGIC TIMERS XDT-12, XDT-24 and FA-XDT

The brains of Securitron exit delay systems are dependable XDTlogic timers, available in 12 or 24 volt versions. These microprocessor-based timers have selectable operating modes to comply with any exitdelay building code rules mandated by NFPA, UBC, BOCA, SBC or theNational Building Code of Canada.

Exit delay operation is defined as an attempt to open a door bypushing the exit hardware, triggering a local alarm and nuisance delayof 0, 1, 2, or 3 seconds. If the exit attempt is terminated before the nui-sance delay expires, the alarm stops and event concludes. If the at-tempt persists beyond the nuisance delay period, an irrevocable re-lease delay period of 15 or 30 seconds will begin, after which the doorwill release, and remain released until reset by an external switch. Ifthe fire alarm activates, all doors release immediately.

Code stipulations vary, but XDT logic timers meet all require-ments, including the BOCA 30 second relock function. Nuisance delayand release times are digitally set on XDT models via precise dipswitches, far superior to analog pots. XDT boards are supplied alone orenclosure mounted with Sonalerts. The BA-XDT is a surface mount box.The FA-XDT is a flush mount plate, and the FAK-XDT adds a keyswitchon the plate.

TWELVE DURABLE BPS POWER SUPPLY MODELSPower exit delay systems with solid BPS series power supplies,

renowned for lasting per-formance. All facilitydoors should operatefrom a single power sup-ply located near the firealarm system, to meet thecode requirement thatpower is cut to all doorsduring a fire alarm event.

BPS power suppliesare available in 12 or 24volts DC, with capacities

Most codes require a re-set—or relock—keyswitch at thedoor. Securitron’s sturdy MKkeyswitch provides smooth quick-switching action, and is compat-ible with existing facility keying.Furnished without a cylinder, theMK will accept any 1-1/4" or 1-1/8" mortise cylinder. Optionally, theMK can include a second switchto perform authorized, non-alarmed exit by a simple key turnin the opposite direction, which

releases the door for 5 seconds. The MK is supplied on a single gang ornarrow stile plate and includes a bi-color LED.

At the user’s option, a normally closed door switch can be usedfor reset. The use of a door switch can meet a specific code require-ment or achieve automatic relocking when the door is used.

LOCK CONTROL PANELS FOR REMOTE MONITORING

Model LCP Series

Securitron LCP lock control panels provide optimum central doorcontrol and monitoring of our exit delay systems, are UL listed as sys-tem components, and can be ordered with any number of zonesconfigured in multiples of 4. Choose from an executive desk panel withwalnut sides; or functional wall, flush or rack mounted enclosures. Ifan application doesn’t require a lock control panel, remote exit delaymonitoring can still be accomplished by conventional alarm panelsthrough XDT logic timer signaling via dry contacts.

Because Lock Control Panels are specially ordered and custommanufactured, MagnaCare coverage cannot apply. But LCPs are cov-ered by a standard 2 year warranty on electronics.

Exit delay systems provide comprehensive monitoring of doorconditions. Two separate SPDT relays on the XDT board indicate sys-tem status at all times.

A local alarm relay pulses during the nuisance delay, and thenoperates continually through the release delay. When a door releasesat the end of the release delay period, this relay resets automatically.

A remote alarm relay operates from nuisance delay termination

Many applications require that an exit delay is functional onlyduring specific parts of the day, or week. The XDT logic timer providesconnections for a time clock or manual switch to alter the exit controloperation of a door. Alternative control functions from standard exitdelay are:

• Door fully released• Door secured from the exterior but immediate, non-alarmed egress available from the interior• Door locked down—no entry or exit• Magnalock won’t release at the end of the release delay period, but remains energized until the exit device is pressed for immediate exit— a variation providing enhanced exterior security, while meeting egress safety code requirements.

Multi-Mode capability is yet another example of the power andscope in Securitron’s approach to state of the art smart security—be-yond code minimums, reaching the ultimate in safety and reliability.

MULTI-MODE OPERATION

Individual components are sold separately, and should be se-lected from Securitron’s price list.

Model 32, 34, 62, 82 or SAM Series MagnalocksDouble doors will require 2 locks. Please note: Model 82 will not oper-ate with an MXD initiation system; but will operate with an SB-MXDinitiation system.

MXD Door Movement Initiation PackageSelect MXD-32 or MXD-62 in correlation to the Magnalock utilized. SAMor 34 cannot be used with MXD OR SB-MXD Initiation.

Latch Monitor Initiation DeviceSelect LMS-1 for a 2 3/4” ANSI strike; or LML-1 for a 4 7/8” ANSI strike.

TSB-3 Series Touch Sense BarApplication on non-fire rated doors only. Double doors will require 2bars. Please contact the factory for fire rated exit products.

XDT Series TimerRequest BA-XDT for enclosed timer with Sonalert. FA-XDT for flushmounted plate. FAK-XDT incorporates a keyswitch. EXD-1L is a doorwarning sign, supplied with BA-XDT, not with XDT.

MK Series KeyswitchPlease contact the factory if a door position switch is required.

BPS Series Power SuppliesDetermine correct power supply capacity to operate all facility doors.

until the door is relocked. This second relay also features power sens-ing to detect a failed XDT board, or reduction of input voltage below70% of nominal.

A Senstat Magnalock can report to the XDT logic timer’s lockstatus input and operate the remote alarm relay whenever theMagnalock is not registering secure. A 5 second delay starts prior tosignaling, so a door authorized for release is allowed to swing shut. Thelock status input can also connect to an independent door switch.

Integration with access control is simplified by the XDT’s bypassinput capability. When an external keyswitch, digital keypad or cardreader closes on this input, the door is released 5 seconds for author-ized entry or exit without alarm.
