We understand the needs of immigrants and provide a wide range of programs and services to help you learn English, build career skills or resume work in your profession.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE PROGRAMS

To get yourself settled in Canada and obtain work, you may need to upgrade your English skills. Bow Valley College has a variety of courses that can help you improve your level of English and help you get the job you are looking for. Our courses will prepare you for success in Bow Valley College’s career certificates and diplomas.

WORK EXPERIENCE FOR IMMIGRANTS PROGRAM

This 16-week program offers you 10 weeks of full- time, intensive, employment-related ESL training, and 6 weeks of work experience in an unpaid work placement that takes advantage of your previous experience and education.

Our academic upgrading courses are designed to fit your schedule, personal responsibilities and time commitments. Our experienced instructors are committed to your success and give you the attention and support you need.

HIGH SCHOOL COURSES

Our upgrading programs provide a variety of learning options to match your needs. We offer traditional class-room instruction or a more flexible learning schedule such as homestudy or online options. Courses are available during the day or in the evening. These courses will get you started towards success in the Bow Valley College career program of your choice.

ABORIGINAL PROGRAMS

Our programs combine quality high school upgrading and support for Aboriginal culture to promote successful transition to post-secondary programs or employment.

ARTSTREAM

This program allows students to begin their Alberta College of Art & Design programs while completing the upgrading they require.

LITERACY AND BASIC EDUCATION

Learn basic reading, writing and math skills. Facilitators will work with you as you practice writing messages, reading instructions and solving everyday math questions.

EMPLOYMENT PREPARATION PROGRAMS

Programs and courses such as New Opportunities for Work, Career Transitions and Apprentice Entrance Exam Preparation provide students with the employment, computer, math and other skills they need to get employment.

Apply early. Applications are non-competitive, and are accepted on an ongoing basis and are assessed on a first-come, first-served basis, upon receipt of all necessary documents and application fees.

If you plan to apply for funding, you should apply at least four to six weeks in advance of the program start date. You can apply for a loan before you’re accepted into the program of your choice.

3. Provide official transcripts, state-ment of marks or letter of standing. Official transcripts for high school education completed in Alberta can be obtained through:

If you completed your education outside of Alberta, contact the appropriate department of education or institution and have transcripts sent directly to the address below. If you are applying directly from Academic Foundations at Bow Valley College, you do not need to submit transcripts.

4. Confirmation Deposit: $100 (applied to tuition). You will NOT be confirmed as a student until the confirmation deposit has been paid in full. The confirmation deposit will be applied to tuition, but is nonrefundable in the event you decide not to attend the College.

5. Attend an interview and/or testing, if applicable.

6. Submit TOEFL, or IQAS evaluation scores or equivalent, if applicable.
