How This Report Was CompiledThis 2007 IT Contract Workforce represents a snapshot in time of demand for IT talent in the US and Canada. It is based on close to 2 million searches for specifi c skills conducted via the HotGigs Staffi ng Exchange. The data was collected in Q4 of 2006.

The HotGigs Staffi ng Exchange is an online marketplace for buying and selling staffi ng services that streamlines the often cumbersome process of fi nding and hiring consultants and contractors from the highly fragmented network of fi rms and agencies nationally. Companies and staffi ng fi rms in need of resources (either contract or perm placement) can conduct searches on the HotGigs Exchange for needed skill sets. Search results show listings of available consultant profi les with matching skills. Searches can be refi ned to focus in on particular skills or geographies.

The results contained in this report were compiled based on the highest volume searches on the HotGigs Exchange in 20 categories, including specifi c IT skills, technologies and software packages. In each category, search results are presented in descending order accompanied by a summary of key trends highlighted by the fi ndings.

This report focuses exclusively on IT skills, as a signifi cant segment of the contractors profi led on the HotGigs Exchange are in the IT fi eld, and the highest volume of searches is presently concentrated in this area. Future reports will break out contractor searches in categories such as business consulting, marketing and sales, health care, and administration, as well as specifi c geographies.

Hiring Companies can use this data to inform their workforce planning and to understand demand curves for mission-critical skill sets.

Staffi ng and consulting fi rms can assess present needs by comparing the data and trends in this report with the requirements and skill requests they are responding to in their own active markets, as well as identifying which skills they might specialize in going forward.

Independent consultants can benefi t from a review of high-demand skills as a springboard for career planning and professional development.

Based on nearly 2 million searches conducted on the HotGigs Staffi ng Exchange for IT contract resources during the fourth quarter of 2006, this report reveals the key IT skills that are being sought in the marketplace. The fi ndings and trends presented here can help companies and staffi ng fi rms focus their eff orts on recruiting and retaining key contract resources based on demand in the marketplace.

Key trends:ERP and packaged software systems are in top demand as companies focus on implementing and enhancing their ERP systems. SAP leads the category, followed by Oracle and Peoplesoft as highest demand packages, and billable rates can be in the mid hundreds per hour.

Web development is the second highest demand area as backlogged projects move into the development phase. ASP.Net, Javascript, HTML, and PHP skills are in greatest demand with strong growth for AJAX developers.

Project management fell to third position during 2006. Demand remains strong for PMs, and larger/longer projects are still the highest need area.

Database development needs surged in 2006, with searches for SQL server developers exceeding those for Oracle developers.

Analysis and design skills moved up signifi cantly in 2006 passing networking and client server development. Top skills desired were business requirements gathering, systems design and process fl ow mapping.

Client server developers remained in high demand, with .NET and J2EE in highest demand, followed closely by SQL and PL/SQL skills.

Networking needs changed, with top demand going to skilled Cisco network technicians, along with LAN setup/support, Active Directory, and strong need for network architects.

IT management remains strong with highest demand coming from smaller to mid-sized companies. Skills in business integration and application development also topped the list in 2006.
